Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Post by Professor Fortier Tue Jan 13, 2015 8:57 pm

Professor Fortier looked out into his crowded classroom. He watched as all of the students as they dipped their quills into their inkpots. He was looking for cheaters already.

"Welcome to your History of Magic Exam Session," Professor Fortier said. "I trust that all of you have studied and are well-prepared for this, and all of your exams. The other professors and I have strict no-cheating policy. If I catch you cheating on this exam, you will receive a failing grade, and most likely fail my class."

"Give this exam your best effort. If you aren't sure of an answer, make an guess anyway. Good luck."

Ooc: This is a chance to win some house points. In this thread, you will roleplay how your character takes an exam. Do they cheat, or are they honest (maybe include who they cheated off of)? Did your student study? Are they guessing on every question? After you are finished with your post, a Minister will edit in your grade (Oustanding, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory) and whether or not they got caught cheating. The grades influence how many points your house gets. No points will be awarded for an Unsatisfactory. A Satisfactory will receive five points, and an Outstanding will receive ten points.

The posts must be at least 100 words long (like all posts on this site) and they must clearly say if your student cheated and whether or not they studied. Just because they cheat, doesn't mean they'll get caught. And your student could fail if they studied, or pass if they didn't study. Have fun!

Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Re: Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Autumn Armstrong
Fourth Year
Studied
Didn't cheat

Autumn couldn't believe that she had been at Beauxbatons for nearly four years. It was funny how things had changed, but at the same time, they hadn't. She sat down at the same desk she'd sat at since year one. The only difference in the classroom at the moment was the exam each student was taking.

Autumn found the test no harder than it had been in previous years. After all, she just had to memorize dates and facts. Those things were becoming easier for her.

But her concentration had not improved much. She still managed to space out until the very last few minutes. She scribbled the last few answers in, hoping that her handwriting was at least legible.

Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Re: Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Lucie Banken
Fifth Year
Studied
Didn't Cheat

History of Magic was a subject which made sense in Lucie's head.  It dates and events.  The tricky part was analysing those events so as to satisfy the exam questions.  Much easier than spell work.  Of course it was getting much harder now as by fifth year you were expected to think about the consequences of this or that event in History.  Dates weren't enough.

She flexed her fingers as she waited for the exam papers to be handed out and the signal given for them to begin.  Then it came and she was soon in the midst of trying to fill out details which would be to the professor's satisfaction.  Almost as big a challenge as casting a spell correctly. Why did she have to write answers of up to two paragraphs when she could just as easily give an answer in two or three sentences?

Lucie worked through the questions one by one, some of it waffle due to her not able to give as long an answer as expected without the extra waffling.  She managed to finish the last answer just as time was up.  History of Magic may have made sense in her head but Lucie knew she could never count it as her strongest subject with her inability to express herself the way the Professor wanted her to do.

Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Re: Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Isobel Green
Second Year
Studied
Cheated

Isobel didn't know any of this stuff. Well, she probably knew it, she just couldn't read it very well. Looking at it was like reading a foreign language, which was the truth. And it wasn't like she could read it out loud to herself.

So her only option was to cheat. It seemed easy enough. Just look off the person next to her. Isobel knew the kid next to her wouldn't turn her in if he caught her looking. He obviously liked her.

So she sneaked glances at his paper and scribbled them down slowly to make it look like she were actually thinking about her answers. She tried her best to rephrase his answers on the essay parts and hoped for the best.

She'd feel guilty later, but she hoped she'd at least pass.

Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Re: Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Sophie Owens
First Year
Kind of Studied
Cheated

Sophie hated History of Magic. Absolutely useless class, in her not-so-humble opinion. Isobel disliked it too. It was probably a universal thing.

Sophie usually figured out what the professor wanted her to write and wrote stuff about injustice and discrimination against other creatures. She did feel strongly about injustice. But a boring history class wasn't going to solve it.

She did study to an extent. She read her history book. Well, she mostly focused on the interesting parts. Uric the Oddball was weird and kinda cool. She hoped the exam asked questions about that.

Sophie used her lucky sparkly fluffy quill for the exam. When it was handed to her, she glanced at the first page and relaxed. That was easy. The french words popped into her head and she wrote them down, feeling confident. She really had improved. When she flipped to the next few pages though, her face fell. They required longer answers and knowledge about boring wizards, not Uric the Oddball. Sophie managed to scribble some details, but she was definitely missing the full story. And four years (minimal) practice of french was no way going to get her through the long essay question.

So she resorted to an option she generally didn't use. Cheating. Isobel had done it. Sure, she'd gotten caught, but if she did it, it couldn't be all bad, right? Besides, as much as she hated the subject, she didn't want to fail. And the kid in front of her, well, it wasn't her fault his paper wasn't covered enough. He could afford to share answers. Sophie quickly jotted down what she saw. She tried not to copy it exactly.

When she was done, she felt guilty. Usually her guilt didn't last too long. After all, the past was the past. But this time, she wasn't going to forget her cheating. Next time, she promised herself, she would actually study. She couldn't rely on the person sitting in front of her to lend their answers.

Term 17 History of Magic Exam Empty Re: Term 17 History of Magic Exam

Julie-Pierre Krischstein
Fourth Year
Studied
Didn't Cheat

Even despite his new girlfriend and him thankfully getting to study a good amount for the test, the Krischstein boy couldn't help but still be a bit nervous about the coming possibility of his grade. How was he going to do, exactly? Even he didn't know, despite doing several pseudo-tests to ensure he would do the best he could. This year, Julie-Pierre knew wholeheartedly that he needed to give his all into his classes if he truly wanted to go for Quidditch.

As much as the boy loved magic, history of anything had never been his thing. It was no wonder that he used to have a struggle with the course, and still did. Frankly, he wasn't messing around so much, anymore, bringing his grades up, but they still weren't exactly to par. If he really was going to finish his years without being held back, he needed to push on as much as he could. He was extremely thankful to have Autumn for his aid, a lot of times bribing him with sweets to make him persevere.

Seconds went by, seconds turned to minutes, and the German was surprised with how well the test was coming out at first. He made sure not to let it go over his head, though, as soon as he was finished with his paper double-checking and triple-checking his answers before time ran out for him. Near breathless from the nervousness, he only hoped that he would be able to help us house and himself.
