Lost Cat

Payton was highly upset at himself for accidentally leaving the dorm room open a crack. He was in such a rush to get to class that he didn't even notice. Now he was paying the price, Sawyer's cat had gotten out and it was all Payton's fault. He felt terrible so he skipped studying to find the poor cat. Sawyer found out about the cat before Payton could even tell him about it. So, Sawyer was also looking for the cat. "Its all my fault," Payton said to his twin as he looked through some green bushes. It seemed hopeless and he hoped Sawyer didn't hate him too much.

Payton couldn't give up though, he just couldn't. It was all his fault and he just wanted to make things right. He should have made sure the door was closed all the way before leaving. He couldn't believe he was so careless about that. Stop beating yourself up, he thought. There was no use in that, it wasn't going to help things get any better.

Sawyer didn't have a ton of friends like so many people in his year but he did have a couple of people he cared dearly about at the school. One of those wasn't even a person, but instead a cat. His cat Artemis was one of his best friends and she was always there for him,she wasn't like Finlay or Payton that had other things to do and couldn't always be around. Artemis wasn't very sociable and tend to chase other students rats, this was why the big, brown, ball of fluff always stayed in the Johnson twins' room. That was as long as they kept the door closed. That was something Payton learned when he left the door open and returned to find the kitty missing.

Sawyer returned to the dorm after charms to find only a ferret in the room. Payton had been a bit slower in returning so Sawyer was there alone looking under the beds and tables for the cat. When his twin returned he asked if the cat was there when they left, which is when the cracked door came into the discussion and the boys were found in the schools indoor garden. Artemis couldn't be blamed for being found there, with the shutdown going on Sawyer hadn't been able to take her outside and she must have missed the light. "Don't worry about it Pay Pay it could have happened to anyone. Let's just find her, the worst that could happen is she eats someones rat. Since that doesn't seem likely don't worry." He said with a half smile to his brother. He looked under a stone bench nearby.

Payton couldn't help but beat himself up, it was all his fault after all. Things didn't seem to be getting any better, Artemis was no where to be found. Either she didn't want to be found or she really wanted to win hide and seek. "I'm sorry Sawyer," Payton said glumly, a frown pulling at his mouth. He felt so bad, it was like an empty pit in his stomach. What if the poor cat didn't show up? Then it would be all Payton's fault and Sawyer would hate him forever. He didn't want his twin to hate him at all.

"Come here Artemis, come out please." It seemed like she didn't want to be found at all. "She's really good at hide and seek, I'll give her that. But this is no time to play games." Hide and seek was such a fun game but not at this moment. "Remember playing hide and seek around the house and outside?" Payton smiled a small smile, the pit in his stomach seemed to disappear at the memory.
