Letters from Sisters

Post by Autumn Krischstein on Thu Sep 11, 2014 9:10 am

Autumn knew she was going to have letters before classes even started. So she wasn't surprised to see a stack of letters attached to her owl.

"Mom. Mom. Dad. Grandma. Mom," she said, looking at the names on the return addresses. "Dad," Autumn stopped. "Marli?"

Obviously, her baby sister wasn't going to be writing her a letter. The print was in her mother's penmanship. But she was still curious.

Autumn tucked all the letters in her bag, except for Marli's.

She pulled the paper -papers- out of the envelope. The first paper was a series of scribbles on paper captioned "Marli got a hold of one of your crayons.

The next papers were photographs of the baby. Bright blue eyes, just like Autumn's, stared up at her. Autumn smiled at them. Her favorite was one of Marli sitting up and doing what appeared to be clapping, although she was not sure if three-month-olds could clap.

She unfolded a piece of paper that was obviously the letter.

"Dear Autumn," she read aloud. "I really miss you at home. Mommy gave me some of your toys to play with. I drooled on a few of them. I hope you don't mind. I love you, Marli." she finished.

Autumn just smiled. That was just what she needed.

Just then, she saw a person come out from behind her, not in a way meant to frighten her, though. Autumn didn't realize she wasn't alone. "I'm sorry. Was I bothering you?" she asked.

Indigo's mother was a difficult person. She was always worrying about Indigo and how things were going for her. Her family lived away from others and there weren't neighbors for miles. She got used to having no friends and being home schooled. It was her fourth year at Beauxbatons and she was still getting used to her new regular life. She borrowed clouthes from her friend and she had two best friends. One just so happened to be her girlfriend. It had happened earlier in the year and just thinking about it brought butterflies to her stomach. She had sent a letter to her mother a few days ago telling her the good news, the letter had been delayed since the young girl kept worrying about what her mom would say.

She had been waiting on edge at each breakfast waiting for the mail to arrive. No letter from her mother had arrived. Was she made at her? Would she disown her? Her mother would do lots of things but she didn't think she was capable of disowning her own daughter. So, she went to the owlery to see if a letter for her was somewhere in there along. Maybe it fell or something. She had spent several minutes on all fours looking for a letter when someone had entered the owlery. She kept quiet and continued to searcvb. Right now, people didn't matter. She needed to see if she did have a letter.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed her name written on an envelope. "Yes!" She grabbed it and stood up. "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to be so loud." She grew nervous.looking at the letter. It was her mother's hand writing, she'd know it anywhere. "I'm just a bit nervous to open this letter," she explained when she saw the younger girl looking at her. She bit her lip and kept staring at the letter. Maybe it would.open itself if she kept staring at it.

"Oh! No! You are fine! I was afraid that I might be too loud!" Autumn said, trying to reassure the older girl.

Autumn was trying her hardest to recognize the girl in front of her. She had to be in a different house. She recognized most of the Cerisiers and knew quite a few of them by name. Autumn was trying so hard to recognize the girl, that she almost missed the girl's next words.

"What do you mean? Why are you nervous? Did something bad happen?" Autumn asked. She didn't realize how awkward her question could be. What if something bad had happened?

She nodded at the girl but she didn't say anything. She was too busy looking at the letter. She was so nervous to open the letter. "Nothing, bad,"she said softly. She turned it over and began to open it. "I just told my mom so important news and I'm not sure how she'll react." She pulled the letter out of the envelope.

Dear Indigo,

I'm glad you're doing well and your father and I miss you very much. Your grandmother is feeling better since she had the flu last week. Your father has been promoted at work.

Suddenly the handwriting changed into her father's.

Indigo, it will take some time for your mother to get used to you having a girlfriend but I want you to know that we support you. She didn't want to address the topic and just leave it out of this letter. But that wouldn't be far to you and I know you want our blessings. I am 100% with you. It will take your mother some time but she still loves you and she's so proud of you.

Love, Dad

With a sigh, Indigo folded the letter back up and put it back into the envelope. She should have known that her mother would have done something like that but it still hurt her feelings. She bit her bottom lip and looked up at the girl. 'Everything is fine," she lied.

Autumn nodded, understanding the uncertainty of telling a mother news, regardless of what kind.

Autumn watched the girl open the envelope and read the letter. It took the girl some time to read the letter, and Autumn began to feel like she was invading the other girl's privacy. But the girl sighed and tucked the letter nack into the envelope.

The girl declared that everything was fine. Autumn wasn't quite so convinced. Autumn often claimed that she was fine or that a situation was fine, when it was far from fine. And the girl looked like she was guilty of it, as well.

"Are you sure?" Autumn asked. "It's acceptable to say that you are upset, if you are."

She wanted Cori and she wanted to tell her about the letter. But she hadn't talked to her in several days because quidditch was keeping her girlfriend busy. And she was at quidditcn practicd at the moment. The other person she knew she could talk to was her friend McKenna but she was probably with her friend Jude. "Do I look upset?" She said in a snippy tone. She hadn't meant to sound mean but the letter was getting to the fourth year's head. "I'm sorry," she quickly apologized.

She had no clue what to do or say now. "I could be some weirdo and you're talking to me. You should really think before you speak to a stranger." She was a bit weird but she wasn't going to harm anyone like some weirdos did.

Autumn winced when the girl's voice turned sour. She hadn't meant to hurt the girl's feelings. Even after the girl apologized, Autumn felt bad enough to do the same. "Sorry," she said quietly.

"I'm a stranger to you as well. Maybe you should follow your own advice," Autumn said calmly. The girl couldn't argue with her about that. Autumn's logic was perfect. She crossed her arms, then dropped them because she looked standoffish. "I'll leave, then. Good luck," Autumn said, scooping up the rest of her mail. She turned to leave, but she turned around again. She was forgetting something. She could feel it.
