Happily Making a Mess Empty Happily Making a Mess

La Petite Dragon was the first stop for Paige's adventures into the world of witchcraft. Today she had to all her shopping for school supplies which was a lot the parchment that the list was written on that she got with her letter was quite long so she was glad that her mum had given her a magically extended bag to put all her stuff in. However in order to get back to Amethyst Alley she had to go through the pub which was kind of like the door way to the alley to keep it away from muggles that didn't know about magic. She had originally planned on just going right through the crowd of people and straight to the back to get a head start on her shopping but once she got inside and saw all the people, lots of them her age, all talking she decided to hang out a bit and maybe make a friend or two. After escaping, or rather just simply walking away, from her brother who was to be her escort around the alley she went up to the bar to get a mug of butterbeer, her favorite drink. She payed the man and walked around to find a seat.

The pub was very crowded though so she was finding it very difficult for a little girl like herself to walk around with a full mug of butterbeer in her hand without spilling it or getting knocked into someone else. Finally though she spotted a table that only had one person sitting at it that looked to be about her age so she quickly tried to make her way over there. She was almost there when a large person behind her ran into her throwing her forward towards the table, this sent her drink flying towards the table spilling everywhere. Not only was she now out of a drink but her money purse also left her hand sending all her coins scattering across the floor. "Oh my merlin." She whispered to herself before falling to her knees in attempt to quickly gather her money knowing that her parents wouldn't be please if she came asking for more money cause she lost hers, that would not prove she is all grown up now at all.

Charon was sitting at a table with his father looking at the wand in his hand. It was bright white and exactly 10 inches. It was made of ivory and had a unicorn hair core. He adored it. Who cares if the shop owner found it in the very back corner of the room, that he went through like thirty wands trying to find the perfect fit? He had his perfect fit now. When they got into the pub he looked around, spying people who I assumed were regular haunts of the place. Charon's father went up to the bar to get them a couple drinks, and then he saw a girl who he assumed was about his age. He simply noted her, but when he saw her coins scatter, he quickly moved to get up, helping her pick them up.

Paige was scared that someone was going to come by and kick all of her coins even further away from her so she probably looked really stupid the way she was crawling around trying to get them all quickly. It looked like most of the gallons were in one area that she could easily just grab them all so that wasn't so bad but the sickles and knuts were not so easy to get. After stuffing all of her gallons back into her money purse she looked up to get the rest of them only this time she saw there was someone else there too. The same boy that he been sitting at the table she had been walking towards was now next to her trying to gather her coins as well. That was rather nice of him she thought at least she hoped he was helping her get the coins and not planning on keeping them for that would surely ruin her good mood. After a few more moments of this all the coins were off the floor and she stuck the ones she had gathered into her purse. "Thanks for the help." She thanked the boy holding her hand out for the coins with a genuine smile.

He smiled at her as he handed her the coins. He was curious, she looked about his age, and this was a prime opportunity to make a friend for his new school. "It's no big deal really." He smiled at her, and looked to his father who was simply smiling a small little parental smile. Charon decided he might as well ask if she was going to his school. "Are you a first year at Beauxbatons too?" He asked cautiously. He'd feel really stupid A) if she wasn't, and B) if she was a muggle. He quickly thought of a lie as to what Beauxbatons was, just in case. He'd tell her it was a boarding school, for musicians, since he himself did play a little piano.

Paige smiled at the boy before placing the rest of her coins in her purse. The boy looked to be around her age so she wondered if maybe he was here on a school shopping trip for his first year too. Her mum did say this place was full of kids like her at this time of the year which she said would make it easier to make friends. She was about to open her mouth to ask him if he was going to Beauxbatons this coming year when he asked her the very same thing. "You betcha. I guess that means you are as well since you said 'too'?" She asked just making sure that she had understood him instead of just assuming which usually ended badly. "Oh my name's Paige by the way." She introduced herself after realizing she had yet to do so, which for her was odd since she was usually very quick to tell everyone her name to make friends. Maybe if this boy was nice enough they could ride together in the carriage on the way to school this term so she wouldn't have to sit awkwardly with her brother and his friends.

Charon's eyes lightened up. "I am going to Beauxbatons." He couldn't help, but grin a little, he thought he was going to be sitting all alone on the carriage, or awkwardly with some upperclassmen. "My name is Charon, Charon Winthrop." He offered his hand. "It's very nice to meet you." He said softly. "You're the first fellow first year I've met." Charon admitted as his dad chatted up some man at the bar. Charon of course saw this and realized he'd be here a while. "Would you like to sit with me?" He offered her, wondering if she'd accept his offer, and save him from most certain boredom.

Paige smiled brightly when he confirmed that he was indeed the same age as her and going to Beauxbatons with her this year. He introduced himself as Charon Winthrop, which made her realize she had only introduced herself with her first name alone. "Paige Bellerose Beauxbatons firstie at your service." She said with a giggle before shaking his hand and joining him at the table. "What a nice table that I ruined with my butterbeer." She said with a slight smile. Just as she said that one of the waitstaff came by and magically cleaned up the mess and asked if she wanted another, which she did. "If I keep up this habit of spilling my drinks I'll be out of money before I even get to the alley." She said to make small talk even though it was kind of picking on herself. She really did hope she didn't keep wasting money on drinks she only spilled all over.

Charon chuckled warmly. "Well if you spill another, the next one is on me." He smiled at the girl and then sighed softly. "I need school to start." "Summer gets so boring." "Alas, once it's gone I regret wasting it.." He reached into his pocket just to feel his wand, to remind himself of its existence. He looked around the room at all the witches and wizards and smiled. This was definitely where he belonged. He came back to Earth and smiled. "Have you gotten your wand yet?" He asked, watching her. Not meaning to stare or anything, just out of curiosity.

Paige smiled brightly, "Thanks for the offer but I don't think I'll need another." She said kindly happy that he offered but she didn't want to impose on someone she had just met, besides she was sure to be more careful with her second mug. She listened politely to Charon talk and she agreed with a lot of what he was saying, she had also found her summer boring and even when it wasn't summer it was kind of boring without anyone but her parents around to talk to. "Yes summer is quite boring isn't? Sadly I haven't gotten my wand yet, in fact I just got here but the wand shop is my first stop though. Did you get yours?" She asked curiously. The wand was the coolest part of being a wizard and it was the most important part to. Without a wand a wizard was basically a muggle unless they could do wandless magic which she has heard is a difficult task.

"I did get my wand." He pulled it out to show her. Sighing happily at it, his wand was a sign of his new found freedom, his new found ability to have responsibility, he'd already read a couple books on charms, and was so very excited. He looked around and thought of the little kitten he bought earlier, hoping that his cat would like the school, and like him. He fiddled with his butterbeer, taking a long sip and sighing happily, delicious. That was what this new world was, delicious. This world was his opportunity to be someone, to be different.

"What kind is it?" She asked curiously. She wondered what her wand would be like, would it be really long or short, maybe make of oak or elm, with a core of unicorn hair or dragon heartstring. A wizards wand was they most important item and often their longest kept item. The wand was like a living thing, it chose the person not the other way around. It was like the wand picked you and told you that you really do belong in this world. Even though everyone in her family was a wizard Paige had always been a bit concerned that she might turn out to be a squib and even though she got her letter she still had some doubts. She just knew that when her wand chose her she would truly feel like she belonged here and she always would. She remembered when Xavior had come home after getting his wand and how happy he was to have it, if a wand could make his brother really happy than it could for her too right. "Do you know what Beauxbtons looks like?" She asked curiously since her brother never would say much about what it actually looks like.

Charon looked at her. "Well it's weird, it's ivory." "I didn't know there were ivory wands, I think I saw one in a catalog once, but that was for show, not practical use." "But this wand feels amazing. I can't wait to learn more on how to use it." He smiled brightly at her. "I do know what it looks like, my dad has pictures." He explained. "It's like this big bright white castle, twice the size of any university I've ever seen." "The grounds are always a lush green color and they have this beautiful looking lake." "It looks like a castle out of a fairy tale in all honesty." He realized he was rambling and apologized. "I'm sorry, I need to learn to talk less." Charon chuckled. "Can I come with you to see you get your wand?" He asked hopefully.

Paige silently listened to Charon describe his wand while she sipped at her at her butterbeer. She loved butterbeer it was probably the best drink ever invented. She snapped out of her butterbeer thoughts to participate in the conversation again. "I think my mum has an ivory wand so I guess they aren't too uncommon. I can't wait to get to school so we can lean how to use our wands and do some real magic. I mean not just that accidental stuff." She listened as he described Beauxbatons to her, it sounded beautiful and amazing and just like everything she had ever dreamed it would be like. "Oh my it sounds amazing I can't wait to get to go and call that place my home temporary home. I bet all the students feel like princesses and princes living there. My brother says they have huge tables piled with food for every meal. Its like they treat everyone like royalty imagine how amazing that must be. Sorry I'll stop talking now." She finished suddenly realizing she was just going on and on, getting more excited with every sentence. "Sure I don't see why not." She answered her new friend with a bright smile.

He couldn't help but grin widely at her as she rambled. "I am glad to have struck up a friendship with you. You are such a splendid person. I honestly had trouble making real friends at my muggle school my mum made me attend. It was worth it to attend of course, but they didn't understand why I was so different, and I couldn't just say I was a wizard, so when I got my letter I practically jumped three feet in the air, this is cloud nine really, not being weird, fitting in somewhere....now I'm the one rambling." He laughed.

Paige giggled when Char followed up her rambling about royalty and the palace with his own rambling about friends. "Looks like we're never gonna have a quiet conversation between the two of us." She said with a smile. Between the two of them always rambling there would always be someone saying something. It was easy to make a friend if they were so much like yourself, you can't possibly annoy someone with your ramblings if they do the same thing. Paige hoped there were more people this nice at Beauxbaton, if they were she could definitely see herself having lots of friends. She could tell already that she was going to love being there even if she did meet a lot of unpleasant people there as well as nice ones. She had her brother there so that was a positive thing too and well it was beautiful. "Merlin I can't wait for school to start." She said excitedly.

"I know." He smiled warmly. "It's so bloody exciting." The waitress came and they paid for their drinks. He stood up, and they left to go into the Alley. Charon was happy he had a friend, it made him feel safe, it was a little weird, but it made sense too. This girl already meant a good deal to her, being his first friend and all. He looked outside the day was sunny, reflecting his emotions perfectly. It seemed like everything was going his way today, which made things a lot better. He looked at the streets full of people, full of students, full of potential friends, full of everything he was hoping for.
