Uniforms Suck

Ruby was right about the uniforms being boring. Her parents had left her to get her robes fitted, the school uniform was so....blue. It was ordinary and it didn't suit Ruby's fancy. She didn't like it one bit, it was so boring. She let out a fake yawn to show her boredom as the tailor measured her. Ruby gave her a smile and in return the woman gave her a sneer. It wasn't Ruby's fault this was so boring! Once that was all finished, all she had to do was wait.

As she waited, two girls entered the shop together. This was the chance to make friends and express her feelings about the uniform. "Come for your uniforms too? Aren't they so horrid? So plain and boring! Can you believe they want us to wear something like that? We'll all look the same and no one will be their own person!"

Grace headed to the clothing store with her new friend Tamara. They'd gotten along so easily, it was positively great. Grace was humming and was zoning out when a girl addressed them. "Yes, we did." Grace confirmed her ponytail swaying as she nodded. "I don't know. Since we'll be wearing them every day. I guess they're a little too blue for my taste, but they could definitely be worse. I mean we could have to like wear bright red ones or something." She shrugged. "The uniforms make it easier to tell students from nonstudents, like an ID. I'm pretty sure we'll all find a way to be original though."

Tamara was babbling to Grace about who knows what. She was so excited that they had it hit off so nicely and were getting along. They headed into the clothing store and Tamara saw the girl before she had addressed them. She nodded along with what Grace said, but interjected with, "The blue looks nice with my eyes." She smiled then shrugged. "We're probably allowed to add our own thing to it or something, plus red would clash with your hair and it would look ghastly." That was probably rude and she probably shouldn't have said that. "Uh.. anyways... I'm Tamara." She offered a smile.

"When I look at the uniforms, I want to add colors and textures. Don't you?" Ruby was known for putting random things on her clothes or in her hair. Today she was wearing feathers in her hair and there were many different buttons on her shirt with different sayings. "I suppose I would be able to add a few things, even if I'm not allowed, I will anyways." Red wouldn't look good on Ruby? Ruby loved the color red, she loved any color really. "I like the color red..." She shrugged off the girl's comment an introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Ruby. People call me Rube." Only a few people did and the name didn't stick much, but she still tried to get people to call her by the nickname. "Call me either, I don't mind."

"I wasn't saying anything against the color!" Tamara tried to defend herself, it was just fashion wise, the color would legitimately clash with the girls hair. "You're a bit of a rebel, huh?" She laughed softly. "I'll probably end up adding something to spruce it up, too." She smiled at the girl and nodded. "Nice to meet you, but surely you prefer one over the other. Which would you like to be called?" She tilted her head, studying Ruby. She seemed nice and hopefully her rude comment didn't ruin any chances of becoming friends with each other. Tamara smiled over at Grace.

Grace smiled back at Tamara. She had no issues calling the red head Rube. In fact she tried not to giggle over it. A red head named Ruby? How perfect was that? She played with her hands and then finally spoke up again. "Do you think I'd get in trouble for wearing the boys' uniform?" Grace hated skirts. They were so girly, too girly, definitely too girly. She nibbled the corner of her lip. Grace sighed gently, she didn't want to be sized up by some person. She'd much prefer just picking out a pair of pants than this dreadful skirt.

"Rube will do," she smiled. Her attention turned to the other girl. "I say wear whatever you want, they can't make you wear a skirt. You're just expressing yourself. I think its kind of weird to make the girls wear skirts, I mean we should be allowed to wear trousers too." Ruby herself loved to twirl around in skirts, but these skirts were too short for that. "I see where you're coming from, I can't even twirl in that skirt."

"I guess I could be a rebel," Ruby stated. "I like to express my opinion about things and I guess that makes me a rebel." She had never thought of herself as a rebel, but the word fit her like a sweater.

Tamara nodded, Rube was a cool nickname. Nothing adorable came from a name like 'Tamara'. Listening to the two girls talk about the skirts, she felt like the odd one out. She didn't mind wearing the skirt, besides they could probably make it look cute or something... That and she liked skirts or dressed in general. But to each their own. "I don't think they should care, Grace. We should be allowed to whatever we find comfortable." Tamara smiled gently.

The seamstress returned, making a tutting noise that more of the students had arrived while she working in the back. Ruby's robes however were not quite ready, so she disappeared once more.
