Cerisier vs Montagnard: round II Empty Cerisier vs Montagnard: round II

Post by Professor Bowen Thu Jan 30, 2014 10:11 am

It was a great day for quidditch, though to Professor Bowen everyday was a good day for quidditch. Today wasn't the ideal conditions for a match but who didn't love a challenge? It was below freezing temperature and there might have been rain last night that was now frozen over everything. The ground was hard to walk on with all of the ice, Bowen got the groundskeeper to melt the students a path to the pitch but there was nothing to do about the ice covered goal posts and railings. She sincerely hoped the players didn't slip as they kicked off the ground, that would not be a good start to any game.

Professor Bowen stood in the middle of the pitch patiently waiting for the players. She smiled brightly at the number of people in the stands, even this weather couldn't keep the students away. When both teams made their way out onto the pitch carefully walking across the icey field she gave them the normal beginning speech. "Alright D'Angelo and Sylvian shake hands please. Play fair and be careful and as always have fun!" She announced before blowing the whistle and releasing the last ball.

This match ends on Feb. 6th at 11pm EST.

It was a cold icy day for Quidditch but Marie-Laure knew it would make no difference. The game would not be cancelled and besides the ice shouldn't be a problem once they were in the air. No-one would be silly enough to touch the goal posts. So long as the hoops were free of ice the chasers shouldn't be hindered. Good. That meant so long as Quinn didn't get himself injured this time he couldn't claim Cerisier was at a disadvantaged when Montagrand scored more than his team.

She reached out her hand to shake with the Cerisier captain as ordered before turning back to her own team. "Be careful when pushing off. I don't want to be down a player because they concussed themselves when they slipped on the ground." With that instruction now given out Marie-Laure did as she advised and carefully pushed off herself. The game had only begun and already Montagnard were in possession of the quaffle. Good. She nodded in approval of her fellow chasers and made sure she was in position to catch the quaffle before successfully scoring.

Stephie hugged her broomstick and clapped her gloved hands together.  She'd considered not wearing gloves but decided that since she'd not missed a snitch yet they would not be a hindrance.  Frozen hands on the other hand were going to make it much harder.  She kicked at the frozen ground and was relieved she played a sport which was up on the air rather than running along the ground.  That would have been so hard and horribly dangerous.

It was finally time for the game to begin and Stephanie forgot to be careful as she slipped before managing to finally get up in the air.  Her ankle throbbed  a little as she hovered over the pitch.  She reminded herself she did not need her feet to catch a snitch and it couldn't be broken.  Just a little sprain which could wait until after she caught the snitch.  Stephanie smiled as she thought of how often she had been successful.  Every single game and this was the fifth one she'd played.  By now her confidence was so high no doubt wormed its way into her head.

The weather was the least of Payton's problems, he hadn't caught the snitch lately and it was starting to get to him. Was he losing his touch? Was he terrible? He couldn't even catch the snitch anymore. It wasn't that he didn't practice, he pushed himself harder each time Montagnard lost. Over the summer all he did was practice besides attending his sister's wedding. Maybe it was because he was pushing himself too much, maybe that's why he wasn't performing well.

Payton kicked off the ground, careful not to hurt himself in the process. The ice wouldn't be much of a problem since they were in the air. He gripped his broom tightly with his gloved hands and kept his eyes open for the snitch.

It was freezing out and Quinn was sure that the temperature had to be some sort of hazard but he wasn't about to ask Bowen to cancel quidditch anytime soon. He had been so proud of his team's win last match and was ready to lead his team to another victory, this time managing to stay on his broom. He blamed his fall in the previous match on the fact that he forgot to wear his lucky socks. Today he made a point not to be so reckless.

He shook hands with Marie-Laure and was about to wish her good luck before she turned away back to her team. He shrugged and did the same, looking at his bundled up players. "Alrightie guys! Awesome job last game! Awesome job in our past practices! Keep it up and you will all get hot chocolate after the match, kay?" He then kicked off and took position in the sky.

Unfortunately he missed the first goal again to Montagnard, but Quinn wasn't discouraged yet. He took the quaffle back and scored a goal himself and then managed to help another chaser score a goal for his team. Now Cerisier was in the lead.

Caleb was glad to see his best friend back in the game. After that fall last game, Caleb was close to tears at the sight of Quinn falling from the air. Of course he had seen people get hurt all the time, he had seen others fall from the sky. But they weren't as important as Quinn. A smile formed on his lips when his friend took to the sky. "Hello everyone, it's a bit chilly today. But I expect everyone to do their best today. And no falling out of the sky." He didn't expect Quinn to see but he winked at his friend anyways.

"The first score goes to Montagnard but Cerisier is right behind them, they're now ahead of Montagnard. Good job teams." He watched as a chaser, wearing purple and red, passed the quaffle to another chaser. "And Montagnard scored again."

If Quinn thought his team was going to get ahead of hers he had another thing coming. There was no way she would let him and she had made sure she and the other Montagnard chasers had practised hard with their formations. It was working as she scored another goal for the team and then one of the other chasers. The real issue today would be how well Payton would do with catching the snitch. From what she'd observed and read Cerisier had the advantage with a much smaller seeker. Was that why he'd lost his touch? In the past he'd done so well with snitch catching.

"Keep on going Montagnard," she called out to her teammates as she quickly scanned the pitch before getting back into the fray again. One of the other Montagnard chasers had the quaffle and was in a much better position than herself for scoring. She would be ready and waiting for when she was needed and able to put her in a place of help.

Montagnard had lost last game, but that had no affect on her. She didn't care about winning or losing, she just wanted to hit someone. The weather was freezing and Mabel wanted to be inside where it was warm. Hopefully this game ended quickly, she didn't want to say out there for a long time.

She carefully mounted her broom and took off, her foot slipped a bit on the ice while taking off but she was fine. She gripped her bat, the game had just begun and Montagnard was the first to score. She hit a bludger away from a purple and red player, she hit it towards a Cerisier player.

She was glad to see her cousin in a better mood, but knew that he was secretly worrying for the Cerisier captain. Montagnard had scored once again, Cerisier right behind them. At least her team was still ahead, Mabel thought as she hit another bludger.

Hovering in one place was perhaps not the pest way to look for a snitch because Stephanie was feeling more and more like a human ice-block. The scores were continuing to go up on both sides and still there was no sign of a flicker of gold. She shot a look at the Montagnard seeker just in case. She would hate for him to see it before here despite the fact that she now had a much faster broom than the old school brooms. Her grip on the handle tightened as she began to feel uncertainty about her abilities creep in despite the fact she had never missed the snitch once.

There was movement and Stephanie screamed as she moved out of the way of the bludger. A red faced seeker resettled herself on her broom as she resumed her watch. It was embarrassing to know what had come out of her mouth she she caught sight of that iron ball heading right for herself. Now she had to calm her nerves so she could go back to seeking.

Rene sighed happily in his familiar booth as an announcer. His life was going so well now. Everything was looking up. He also kind of wanted to ask his best friend out on a date, but he wasn't going to not yet at least. She didn't like him and there were more handsome guys, so he didn't even bother with that. He was literally just content and happy to be alive. To top off his happiness he was calling a quidditch game. He had to admit he was nervous. Montagnard's seeker play hadn't been that great recently, and Cerisier was a game away from back to back quidditch cups. "The game is fifty to fifty with a chance for Cerisier to win back to back cups on the line."

Charon felt really good heading into this game. Ever since Quinn took over he'd felt like he'd been able to breath more and not be as afraid of messing up. He supposed it was because whereas Quinn's cousin had kind of been intimidating presence regardless of how his personality actually was. He was still a person older than Charon and Charon couldn't help but feel a little nervous around him. However, since first Lucy and then Cassie had left Beauxbatons that made Quinn his closest friend that wasn't Paige. So, he wasn't intimidated by Quinn's presence. He just respected the hell out of Quinn. He couldn't imagine anyone who could do a more honest job than Quinn was doing. Hell, they were a win away from back to back Cups. Charon quickly found though that Montagnard was feeling pressure to win as soon he'd found himself letting up five goals.

The teams were neck and neck, not letting the other score ahead of them. Both teams were determined to win, but it was all going to come down to catching the snitch. Since Payton hadn't been doing that lately, he didn't have much faith in himself. He was feeling discouraged, if he caught the snitch this game he would feel much better. But he didn't think that was going to happen since the other seeker seemed to be doing a better job than him.

The sixteen-year-old kept his attention on the game and looked closely for a flash of gold. Montagnard was now ahead by a goal and Payton hoped it stayed like that. He needed to get a hold of that snitch quickly.

Trent had some passion on his heels in store for this game. He needed to help the team to victory. Cerisier had to be champions they just absolutely had to be. When he got outside and saw field conditions he was partly disappointed. The field was nearly frozen solid. It made it difficult to kick off the ground at a good angle. It took a while, but finally Trent did have his bearings properly. Montagnard was leading by a score. He quickly came across the quaffle and drove as fast as he could towards Montagnards end of the pitch. When he felt like he was in a good range he threw the quaffle as hard as he could. Much to his delight he scored. He quickly recovered the ball again and darted between some players to once again release the ball for a second score.

"The scores are tied and people seem to be frozen to their brooms. Come on guys, score some goals!" Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to have a quidditch game when it was so cold out, but nothing could change Professor Bowen's mind. "I think everyone's going to need a warm drink once this game is over so they can warm up. Can you feel your toes, guys?" Caleb cracked a smile.

"Looks like Mabel almost hit someone with that bludger, good job." Now Montagnard was ahead by a goal, which was good. But who won would depend on the snitch and with the recent losing streak of Montagnard, things didn't look good for them. He didn't care who won, like always, but it would be nice to see your house win after losing so many games.

The bludger should have it the Cerisier player but it was so close. She cursed at herself, close wasn't good enough. She wanted to hit someone, people needed to stop moving away from the iron balls. She zoomed towards a bludger and hit it away from a Montagnard chaser. Instead she sent it towards a Cerisier player. She hoped that this time she would actually hit someone.

She flew away before she could see if she hit someone or not. Montagnard was behind again and Mabel was beginning to feel competitive. "Catch the snitch already!" She yelled at the Montagnard seeker, whatever his name was didn't matter. It seemed to be getting colder and Mabel's fingers were beginning to go numb.

Quinn was slowly losing feeling in his fingers and his nose was running from the cold. It was one thing for it to be freezing cold out, and another for one to be flying when it was freezing out. The wind whipped his face and his harsh breath showed in clouds in the air before him, but Quinn wasn't going to give up. He had been dedicated to Quidditch long enough to know the struggles of the sport and this was just another hurdle to overcome.

"We're doing great guys!" He called to his team, as Cerisier landed another goal. They had a slim lead to Montagnard, but everything counted on the seeker to catch the snitch. He wasn't too worried though. Stephanie was proving to be an excellent seeker.

He had the quaffle in hand once more and was about to launch it through the goal when he was hit in the shoulder with a bluger. He panicked more than usual, due to the events of last game, but realized the pain was minimal beneath the multiple layers of clothes to keep him insulated and he was still firmly on his broom. However, he had let go of the quaffle in his panic, which was swooped up by a Montagnard and gave them another point.

Rene was biting his nails. This was positively horrid. They had to win Montagnard had to win. "Seeker play is going to win this game. The scoring is wide open. At this rate we could have another situation where the winner of this match isn't who catches the snitch too, however I'd like the snitch to be caught fast Montagnard. I'm freezing up in this box. I think we might actually be locked inside of a fridge. Caleb? Do you know where the hand warmers went? Mine has frozen solid." Rene sighed softly in frustration. "Cerisier leads Montagnard ninety to eighty. At least you can say it's a high scoring game."

Annnaliese was nervous by initial frozen pitch. It was more than enough to make anyone uneasy, but she felt like the game would go in favor of Montagnard however..since her failure to do much during the last game, she  was determined to prove herself to the team captain in order to keep her position on the team. She didn't want her team mates to think she wasn't any asset to the team at all. It made her nervous to think that she'd never be able to play quidditch again. It was one of the few things that made her happy. Since her aunt had tried to bring the same fate of her family upon her. Finally when Cassie had let her stay, her mom had thrown that back in their faces, not allowing Anna to stay at the house anymore...Anna didn't have anywhere to go...and was nervous about her aunt finding her because she'd come back to school. She figured she could always go into foster care or stay with Oz...or something, but she didn't want to be a burden on him anymore than she already had been.

Sighing to herself, she shook her thoughts out of her head. She needed to concentrate on the game. The teams were almost tied at this point and it looked liked anyone's games..but she wanted to make sure that it was Montagnards. She tried to keep the bludgers out of the goal post as much as possible...but the cold was making her hands stiff and she could feel them shaking underneayh her gloves. They weren't meant for Quidditch,  but they were all she had to work with. Her broom she had, her 3rd year was now the only broom she had for Quidditch...not having a lot of money as of yet, it made her feel unprepared for the team and the game. She knew she had to try...for her teams sake if nothing else.

Ever since Caleb had seen Quinn fall off his broom, he was worried about him. Way too worried. Every little thing made him jump and squirm, he needed his friend to stay safe. He needed him to make it through this game without a scratch but that wasn't going to happen since a bludger had hit his friend's shoulder. "Crap," he muttered away from the microphone. He sighed in relief when his friend seemed to be fine. "Montagnard will have to do better than that to get Cerisier off their brooms."

"Looks like it's a tie once more, no wait, Montagnard is ahead again. One hundred points for Montagnard now. Good job guys." Before long, it was tied once more. "It's chilly out here, let's wrap this up, okay?" He chuckled into the mic, his nose was cold and he was ready for a warm drink.

Paige wasn't usually a big fan of the cold but she loved the way the ice looked when it covered everything the way it did today. The snow made everything prettier even though that made it cold as well but it sure was interesting weather for a quidditch match. She was glad that Quinn was better and could again play quidditch, she hoped he did well this game but she also wanted her team to do well. As soon as the whistle was blown she was much more focused on her own teams winning.

Paige watched as both teams racked up the points. She continuously tried to hit someone with a bludger but she was finding it much harder than usual. The snow was making it hard to see with the glare from the bright white.

Trent grinned as he scored his third goal. He actually was enjoying playing in the cold air. It made a whipping sound as the cool air blew past his scarlet red hair and cheeks. That only happened to intensify when he was flying. The cold winter air also gave him more drive though. If he was flying it wasn't as cold because he was exercising. The only bad thing about that was he was pretty sure some of his sweat had literally frozen solid. He scanned the crowd quickly hopefully to find an approving glace from Guenevere.  He bit his lip as soon his hair felt cold from the sweat flash freezing. However, the enjoyment Trent was getting was cut short by a loud snapping sound and his own shouts as he tumbled towards the ground. He realized he was in pain halfway between the ground and falling.

Paige was frustrated that she had yet to hit anyone all game. She started flying after the bludgers quicker and with more conviction than before. She was determined to show her team that she hadn't let the last game make her a bad beater. Finally she hit a bludger as hard as she could in the direction of a Cerisier and paused a moment to see if it made contact. She cheered to herself when she saw it hit the boy though she didnt stick around to see that he, like Quinn fell from the sky after her hit. The snitch was finally caught and the game was over.

Charon dodged another bludger with a large eye roll. He was positive that Paige or that new beater Mabel that Montagnard got must have been just firing at random. However he was still having a mediocre game. He supposed that he just wasn't feeling the quaffle this year or judging people's shots right irregardless they were at the home stretch of the season and had a chance to win the cup back to back. Which might just prove to his mother that quidditch can be as important as his muggle and wizarding school work if not more important. Quidditch was good for building up character and morals and it made Charon a happier person as well as a better person. Even if he was juggling muggle work, wizarding work, being a prefect, and quidditch it was worth it for moments like this when he could let go.

Annaliese glared at the score board as the final score appear...Cerisier had caught the snitch leaving Montagnard at only 100 to their 250. This made her scowl. It wasn't fair how easily they'd been able to get the snitch...but on top of that it wasn't necessarily Payton's fault for not catching the snitch. She wasn't going to blame him for it like Oz would've. But he wasn't here anymore and she was worried that they were go to loose the cup, and she'd be blamed for it when she wasn't able to keep the bludgers out of the post.

Sighing she returned to the frozen ground with her team mates in defeat and retreated to the locker room. She glanced up the Cerisiers...they seemed so content...she just wished she could feel like that...for once this year.

Stephanie studied her gloves closely. Would they hinder her ability to catch the snitch. Maybe she should take them off so that she wouldn't have that problem. Then an icy gust blew in her face and Stephanie shivered. Nope. The gloves were staying. She would still catch the snitch, gloves or no gloves. She was determined they would not hinder her.

She glanced up at the scoreboard and gasped. Both teams were at one hundred and she was brought back to the reality of what she was supposed to do. Catch the snitch. Stephanie gripped her broom with both hands and scanned the skies for the snitch. There it was above one of the goal hoops and soon she was off after it. She didn't worry about where the other seeker was. Stephanie was completely focused on that snitch and picturing herself catching it. She would catch it. Her hand would go around it. She was there and her hand stretched out. The glove was no hindrance at all as her hand closed around the golden ball. Yet again she'd caught the snitch and now was believing she really did have seeker ability.
