Flying with a Sweet Tooth

Caleb wasn't one to participate in sports, but after Quinn offered to teach him the basics of Quidditch. He would rather be doing something else, but he wanted to spend more time with the other boy and become friends. After what had happened in their flying class, Caleb had felt so bad that Quinn had hurt himself. He was glad he didn't die like he thought. Caleb didn't want to be the cause of someone's death.

He sat on the field and open his candy bag, that he always kept with him. He didn't have much left, he made a note that he had to buy some more. He pulled out a blue and purple swirled lollipop and unwrapped it. It looked so good, he didn't waste time, it took only a few seconds for the lollipop to go into his mouth. He smiled, the sucker was a mix of grape and raspberry, his two favorite flavors.

Though Quentin had a broom of his own, he wasn't so sure that Caleb did. After all, the boy explained he wasn't very apt at sports, which made him think that Caleb would rather spend his spare change on candy, rather on a broomstick for himself. This led to Quentin making a detour to a broom cupboard to pick out the best school broom he could find before heading out to the pitch.

Smiling as he saw Caleb already waiting for him on the pitch, Quentin made his way over, two broomsticks slung over his shoulder and a quaffle resting on his hip. He dropped the equipment when he got close enough to the boy because it was sort of getting heavy.

"You made it!" He said, cheerfully. "I got you a broom, cause I don't think you had one. Today we'll just fly around a bit and probably pass this quaffle around. Nothing fancy. Maybe we can practice scoring, if you'd like," Quentin explained, nudging the school's broom closer to Caleb. "Though, if you'd feel more comfortable, I suppose you can use my broom." He had a sister so he wasn't completely shabby at sharing his things. After all, the school's broom might be a bit more clunky than his smooth flying broom. He just wanted to get his friend to like the game that he loved.

Caleb looked up from his sitting position up to the other boy. "Hi! I am here unless I am a clone. Which I don't think I am. Or am I?" He stopped thinking about clones only because he didn't want to confuse himself. Knowing whether or not he was a clone confused him and he wasn't sure if he was one or not. "I think I'm just Caleb and not a clone. So, hi! I'm still Caleb!" His speech was muffled by the sucker in his mouth but he didn't take it out.

He wondered if he could fly with the sucker in his mouth, but that would probably be a bad idea. He put the sucker back in its wrapper and placed it back in his candy bag. "I can use the school broom." He didn't want to take Quinn's broom from him. He took the school broom and looked at it. "I don't think I've ever seen a game of Quidditch before. When my dad took my brother to a game, I'd stay home with my mother." He wasn't even sure what the game was really and hoped Quinn would explain the rules and what the game was about.

Quentin was slightly puzzled for a moment by his friend's greeting but soon got the boy's drift and decided to help him out. "Oh well maybe I should ask you a question that only the real Caleb would know," Quentin suggested and then followed through with it anyway. "What is Caleb's favourite thing to eat?" He asked, knowing well that the answer would be candy.

He nodded when Caleb agreed to using the school broom instead and sat on his new broom, hovering slightly above the ground as he listened to Caleb's experience. "Oh well you should watch a school game, sometime. I'll be playing it!" He said with confidence, even though he had yet to try out for the Quidditch team. "So get on your broom and come on up! We've got some Quidditch to play!" He called, flying up towards the sky with the quaffle tucked beneath his arm.

How dare he ask Caleb that question? Did he not know him at all? It was the reason they had become friends in the first place! "I thought you knew!" He was sad that his friend knew so little about him after just about everyone knew he loved candy. He had named his cat after those delicious treats after all. "I love candy!" He frowned, wasn't it obvious that he loved candy? "How do you not know that? You make me sad."

He stayed on the ground, crossing his arms. He refused to get up until Quinn learned some things about him. "Before we begin, we need to get to know each other more. And we need to REMEMBER the things the other says. Since you forgot about my favorite food. Which is the reason we even became friends." Caleb was ready to tell facts about himself and to quiz Quinn afterwards.

Caleb seemed disturbed by his method of deciding whether or not this Caleb was the real deal or just a clone. It made a frown pull at Quinn's face when the boy got upset, but Quinn was going to set things right. He grabbed his friend by the shoulders and told him to calm down. "I only asked to make sure you weren't a clone! But you said the right answer! Candy is the real Caleb's favourite thing to eat so now I know you are real!" He explained, and smiled. "How could I forget that! It was practically how we became friends!"

Quinn was alright with Caleb talking while they flew as long as he kept focused in their game. "We'll just toss and catch, alright?" Quentin explained and then launched the quaffle at the boy. If Caleb wanted to talk as well, then that was fine with him. Quentin just wanted to practice while he was at it.

"Oh! Okay! I'm glad you didn't forget." Caleb was pleased that he had remember his love for candy. He was also glad that he wasn't a clone. "I would hate to explain to my mother that I was a clone! I'm glad I'm not!" He aadjusted his glasses, which had decided to fall to the end of his nose while he had been looking down to put away his candy. He wished he had his contacts, but he had lost them at his home.

Caleb caught the ball, though it almost slipped from his hands, then looked at it for a moment. What a weird ball. He had never seen anything like this ball before. "Weird. This isn't like a regular ball." This ball was even more strange than the American football his brother had brought home once. Though this ball was the right shape, it wasn't like other balls he had seen. "It looks kinda like a jaw breaker I had once!" He threw the ball back, it was a pathetic throw though.
