Let Him Go

Watching the sunset over the lake seemed ethereal. The twelve-year-old sometimes needed a break. She didn't consider herself to be stressed out. Just a bit tired and bored of her school. And of emulating her brother.

When Isobel heard footsteps, she didn't feel like pretending to be insulted. She just looked out and up into the sky with its shades and tints of pink and orange. "It's pretty, isn't it?" she asked. She hesitated for a moment before adding, "Come sit with me."

She didn't look away from the display to see who had sat beside her. She was compelled to ask a question about a situation that had been confusing her. The situation that was the cause for the needing the break in the first place. "Do you ever feel like someone really important has forgotten you?" Isobel questioned, thinking of her brother.
