Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts Empty Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts

Post by Professor Bowen Sun Oct 26, 2014 9:17 am

It was that time of year again, the beginning of a new year at Beauxbatons meaning it was once again time for quidditch tryouts. This was one of the professor's favorite times to be the flying instructor, however it could also be very stressful to choose students for the teams. However she was always able to decide in the end and she just loved the happy looks on the students faces when they flew around the pitch and you could always see that moment when each one of them finally got some confidence in their tryout performance.

Professor Bowen walked out onto the quidditch pitch to see a group of excited students standing in the center, some scared looking and others confident. She stood in the middle and quickly got everyones attention, "Alright everyone welcome to this year's Quidditch Tryouts." She said loud enough for everyone to hear her. "You will be notified when the tryout results are in." She told them all slowly to be sure they all understood. "Alright so with that let's get started and yes you may tryout for more than one position." She finished before starting the tryouts.

ooc:
-To tryout post only one for each position you wish to tryout for.
-You are to post strictly in character and write a one shot of your character going through their turn.
-Please pay attention to order when posting, for instance if you are trying out for seeker make sure to note that they had to wait till the end to take their turn.
-Be sure to give enough detail in the post to help the Ministers make an accurate decision about who to pick.
-Look at the Quidditch Team sticky to see what positions are open. There is only one Seeker and one Keeper. If those positions are filled on your team, you cannot tryout for that position.
-Message your house's Minister with any questions

Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts

Haruhi's heart was pounding in her chest. She had only learned of what Quidditch was the previous year and had the disadvantage of time to learn how to fly, yet here she was on the Quidditch pitch in the early morning, hoping for a spot on the Quidditch team. She was good at many other sports, but being a witch, she wanted to be good at magic sports as well. She figured it was at least worth a try. She had a great arm for throwing, she just wasn't as fast a flyer as others.

When the call for potential chasers came, Haruhi stood up and mounted the school broom before taking to the sky. The broom went a tad bit too fast and no doubt her alarm was noticeable by all viewers, but she had calmed it as soon as possible.

She held the quaffle tenderly beneath her arm as she made way to the goal. She launched the red ball, the first time missing, which made her feel awkwardly warm. This was her second blunder. Her next try, she made it into the goal and she was quick to recollect the quaffle to shoot one more goal before her time was up. The sound of her heart was pounding on her ear drums. She told herself the worst that could happen was that they'd say no and she would have to try again next year. Or the following. And so forth.

Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts

Last year had been the first year this second year had ever heard of quidditch or even seen the sport being played. But since she had seen her first game, she wanted to play. It was her calling, she was going to be a great player. She had began practicing with the one and only Ryan Green and he taught her a lot of things that would guarantee her a spot on the Nuage quidditch team. She just wasn't sure which position she wanted so she was trying out for all of them. She waited until everyone else had gone because she would take up more time trying out than they would.

First, she was laying the keeper position so she mounted her broom and floated up to the goal posts. She wasn't the best at any of the positions and just hoped that she was good enough to be on the team. Once she was ready, quaffles were sent her way. Out of the three that were thrown, she only knocked one out of the way. She didn't do too hot there. But maybe she'd be better with a different position.

Next was chaser. She drew in a deep breath and zoomed away from the hoops and towards someone with a quaffle. The ball was passed to her and she easily caught it and turned back towards the goal. There was now a new person guarding the goal and she threw the ball with all of her might . The new keeper bolted towards the quaffle and grabbed it. Aleta let out a groan. Oh great.

She let out a long sigh and was tossed a bat by another player. Maybe she'd actually be good now. A bludger was set loose and Aleta chased after it. She hit it with all her might and sent it towards the goals so she didn't hit anyone. She grinned when it was blocked by another player. Maybe this was what she was good at.

But she wouldn't know unless she tried the seeker position. She passed on the bat and let out another sigh. The snitch was released and she kept her eyes open for the tricky little thing. After a minute of nothing, she was losing hope in herself. She flew around the pitch in hopes of hearing the wings of the golden ball. Finally, she heard the sound and flew after the ball. But it gained speed and flew from her view.

The whistle was blown which meant she was out of time. She let out a groan before making her way back to the ground. She was not happy with her performance at all! She could have done so much better and she knew it. No one else would not it now. She put the school broom away with the others and stomped away from the field. Aleta needed some time to calm down and blow off some steam.

Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 15 - Quidditch Tryouts

Today was the day. Quidditch tryouts. No matter how many times he practiced, he still felt nervous. Luckily, he wasn't the only nervous person. There were some kids that appeared to be having various kinds of nervous breakdowns. And Gregory wasn't to that point. Yet.

He was trying out for the beater and chaser positions. He wasn't the best at catching, but he knew he could try.

Chaser was first. He flew up towards another chaser. Greg caught the Quaffle that was thrown to him, rather clumsily, almost dropping it. But he did manage to throw it into the bottom left goal, only because it hit the top of the ring and ricocheted in. The other two that he tried were easily blocked.

Next was beater, which was what he really wanted. Someone tossed a bat up to him and released a bludger.

Greg didn't have to chase it for more than a few seconds before he was able to get a decent swing at it, aimed toward a decoy player. The bludger didn't quite hit it, but it brushed up against its clothes, which would be enough to scare a chaser if it were a real game.

Greg hit a few more bludgers, not focusing on force as much as aim. The bludgers hit the targets much more accurately.

When his time was up, he felt confident. He tried his best, and that was enough for him, even if he didn't make the team.

What was he doing? What had he been thinking when he decided to try out for the Cerisier quidditch team. Why did he think this was a good idea? There was no way he was good enough to even make it on the team! He had only played the sport for fun and now he was going, if he made the team, for competition instead of just for the fun of it. If he made the team, he didn't think he could take the yelling that some captains did. Jude didn't like to be yelled at and he got enough of that from Professor Cox. Stern personalities did not go well with his laid back one. When the new captain was announced last year, he thought about not trying out at all. But he decided that he should and he would. Now there he was.

He sighed then looked up at the stands to make sure that McKenna had come. A grin spread across the fourth year's lips. She had come and she was there for him. Something about it made his heart flutter a bit, he was just happy that his best friend was there to cheer him on. Jude turned back to the tryouts and let out another deep breath when his name was called. He bit his bottom lip then told himself that he could do this and that he would do great.

He mounted his broom and took towards the three giant hoops. He let out another large breath as he focused his attention on the what was about to happen. Soon, quaffles were thrown his way and he flew around trying to stop them from flying through the hoops. He did a pretty good job at it and only two or three quaffles made it through out of the many that were thrown. The whistle blew and his tryouts were complete. He grinned as the flew back to the ground.

Santiago made his way to the pitch confidently, though, he was pretty terrified inside. He didn't know if he was going to make the team. He thought he was a pretty good beater, but that was his own opinion. Santiago nervously rose into the air. As a way of training Santiago played baseball. There were several differences between hitting a baseball and hitting a bludger, but the idea was very similar in both sports. The bludgers were released and Santiago smacked one as hard as he could and watched it go to the other end of the pitch away from his teammates. However, he kind of forgot the object was to hit someone else. So the next time he saw a bludger he made sure to hit someone right across the chest with it. After a few more swings, Santiago went to the ground with a smile. He was pretty happy with his tryout.
