Tagging Along

Post by Guest on Tue Nov 05, 2013 3:45 pm

Fane didn't quite get it. He heard the words that his once called friend said to him, how his honesty had gone to far and had hurt the boy's feelings, but he didn't get what he had done wrong. Everything that he had said was the truth and Fane thought it was funny. He didn't get why Gus didn't laugh with him, but instead got mad at him. Since then, Fane decided to avoid the boy. He could no longer call August a friend if he wasn't going to take things with a sense of humor. On the downside, without Gus around, Fane didn't really have anyone to hang out with. He was good at being by himself, but it got boring after awhile. He needed new friends who weren't going to be such sissies when he criticized him.

Memories rolled back to the time he was trying to spook out some muggle borns and his play was almost undone by an older student. He ended up telling the older student a bunch of lies that he had manufactured on the spot, but he seemed to have bought it and later on, Fane saw his stories published in the school's paper. That left some sort of good impression of the boy on Fane and Fane figured he ought to give the boy another try. Maybe he'd be worthwhile to hang out with, so he waited in the Montagnard dormitory corridor to see if the familiar boy would pass by.

He didn't need to wait long before he was rewarded and he saw the boy emerge from one of the doors and started walking purposefully. Fane tried his best to hurry, yet keeping up a casual appearance, as he sidled up next to the boy and coughed for his attention. "Hey, how's it going?" he started. "I'm a bit busy myself, but you did a pretty good job on that article about the dungeon trolls, so I can at least entertain you for a bit," Fane lied. He had no where else to be. He just wanted company.

There was a SOP article due soon and Sawyer had no idea what there was to write it on, he figured all the other members would be writing about the vampire so that was probably not a good option. The boy sat in his dorm pondering possible topics, maybe joining this club was a bad idea. When nothing came to him after awhile he decided maybe it was best to go walk around for awhile, maybe something would come to him as he walked through the corridors or outside. Perhaps there was something interesting going on that he had just been too busy with his own stuff not to notice. He wasn't sure if that was going to happen or not but it never hurt to try right, it at least beat staring at the wall blankly.

Shortly after Sawyer left the comfort of his dorm someone came up next to him and started talking. The boy started talking like they were friends but the Montagnard couldn't remember ever seeing the boy before. "Sorry but who are you?" His first thought was it was one of the people Payton had met and they had mistaken him for Payton. That was until the boy said he had read his article about the trolls in the dungeons and suddenly he remembered where he had seen the boy before. This was the arrogant first year who had told him all about the trolls. The article had to be published as a fictional article thanks to the random stuff he had put in there from this very boy and well Sawyer had been unsuccessful in finding any, it was funny though to hear what this boy had made up. "Oh you're the troll expert." He said with a smirk. He continued to walk but looked over at the boy slightly with a raised eyebrow. "You're busy but you have time to entertain me eh? So you're bored out of your skull and have no one else to talk to?" He asked with a tone of amusement. This kid whose name he couldn't remember, was entertaining the way he thought Sawyer bought his lies. It was comical really that he was so oblivious to how bad a liar he was.

A scowl came upon Fane's face as the boy seemingly failed to recognize him, whereas Fane knew the boy upon sight. He would've thought that his dazzling storytelling would've left a better impression, but it appeared that the boy didn't even remember his story about the trolls until he mentioned it. He supposed he should've guessed something like this would happen, since he was trying to make it with an older kid, who probably thought he was cooler than Fane. Fane would just have to prove him wrong.

"I guess you could call it that," Fane partially agreed, though he wouldn't admit that he was entirely friendless. If the boy asked, his friends were all busy doing something idiotic, whereas he'd rather be intelligent. "Got any good leads for your latest story?" Fane asked, not really knowing much else about this kid besides that he wrote for the paper. "Aren't you like a seeker or something? Maybe you could explain why your team did such a rubbish job last game," Fane laughed, mistaken the boy for his twin that he didn't even know he had.

It seemed like Sawyer had upset the boy but not recognizing him when the boy scowled at him, but the teen wasn't about to apologize. It's not like he can remember every person he has even met in his entire life. Besides he had interviewed a number of people for the newspaper and he didn't remember most of them either. The boy didn't seem to be deterred much by the older boy's inability to remember him for her stuck around and seemed just as confident as he had before. He chuckled with a smirked though when the boy admitted that he was correct about his assumption of the boys motives for being there. He wouldn't fully admit it probably because he wanted to seem cool still but it was close enough to show that Sawyer was right.

"Oh yeah I've got tons of leads for this article I just need to figure out which one to use." He answered brushing off the boy's mention of the newest article. He chuckled again at his talk about him being a seeker. "No I can barely fly straight let alone be a seeker, that's my brother you're thinking of." He said with a smile. "I'm in no position to say anything about their failure this last match." He didn't want to say anything mean about his brother but they really did suck last game. "So what about you kid, what are some thing you do?" He asked figuring if he was going to be forced to talk to him he should at least know something about him as well.

The boy didn't seem interested in having Fane around, but then again, he hadn't directly told him to go away either, so Fane was going to push his luck for as long as it lasted with the boy. He was hoping that his questions would spark further conversation, but Sawyer was just as quick to dismiss each topic as Fane threw them at him.

"Your brother looks exactly like you," Fane pointed out. "I trust you have noticed that, though." It would've been a bit stupid if Sawyer hadn't, especially since he had confused the two, he was sure many others had as well.

A small cunning smile found it's way onto Fane's face as the boy finally asked a question in return. "You really want to know?" Since he knew the boy would probably rather walk away than to beg Fane for the answer, he decided to move on and just answer. "I like to cause disturbances," He said with a shrug. "whether that's with pranks or whatnot. It's kind of my thing." And it landed him with the title of the loneliest boy in school because of it.

Sawyer wasn't going to admit it but he was starting to like this kid at least he, unlike most people, had the guts to stick around. By now most people would have already given up trying to talk to the highly uninterested boy and walked off but not this kid he was sticking around. Sawyer wasn't sure why he was doing so but he gained some respect for him. Perhaps he had underestimated him before when he only noted how terrible he had been at lying to the younger students and even to Sawyer himself. He rolled his eyes again at the mention of his brother, "Yeah identical twins do tend to look a lot alike. Thanks for letting me that that's still the case." He said with a smirk glancing sideways again.

The Montagnard had been about to answer the boy with an uninterested answer since he had only been trying to make some kind of conversation by asking. He didn't much care that much what his answer was, sure he was a bit curious purely because he had now met him twice and knew nothing but his own observations which could be false. It seemed the boy knew that though as he continued on. Sawyer eyed him when he received the answer, "Really now?" He said curiously. "Causing disturbances is kind of my thing too always has been." He said before adding, "That would explain the lack of people for you to hang out with which brought you to me. Being the prankster or trouble maker of the school sure can land you in a lonely spot." He noted casually. He sounded bored by the obvious fact even though it did bother him some that he was always alone, even Finlay didn't talk to him much anymore.
