Are Captains Necessary? Empty Are Captains Necessary?

After last year when Christian's first meeting as the leader of SAQ flopped like it did he decided to take the opposite approach to finding a topic. Instead of doing a lot of intense studying he decided not to doing any studying at all. In fact he actually let his depressed state of mind and thoughts of his current situation decide the topic. That wasn't the only difference with his presentation this year from last, while he had been nervous last year, now that he was more used to it and his current emotional state he wasn't. In fact he stood up on that stage today and could honestly say to himself he didn't not care in the slightest bit what anyone in the crowd thought of him. He tried to act a bit happier about the situation than that though.

With a nice, big, fake smile he welcomed everyone. "Hello, hello everyone. For anyone that's new to the club or simply couldn't remember the your only leader, I'm Christian D'Angelo. Welcome to the annual meeting of Students Appreciating Quidditch. I want to hear everyone talking this year got me guys." He said with a slight smirk scanning the faces in the crowd to give them all slight glare. "Alright anyways unlike last year this isn't really a technical topic but more of mere opinions. There might be vastly different opinions but fighting is strictly prohibited and I have permission to hex anyone for fighting." He said with another look through the crowd, of course he didn't really have permission for that and some surely knew that, what they might not know though is if they fought he was still gonna hex someone. "So the topic today is about quidditch captains. Specifically are they necessary. We all seem to have the idea that if we have team there has to be a captain, but is that true. There are only seven people on a team is that a small enough number for them all to run it together and work together without having someone 'lead' them?" He asked trying to get people to see both sides. This was a much better topic that sprung from his thoughts of resigning from his own position but it was still a pretty good topic. It would also be interesting to see how people responded with both houses captains in the room, that was if they were even aware of the boys positions on the team.

Marie-Laure really was not in the mood for a club meeting that day. She was still annoyed over her recent discovering at the responses she got from both her father and grandparents. They thought sorry would be enough? All of them had lied about her past and they were sorry? Sorry was not going to make up for the years of ignorance they'd forced her to live in.

She sat in the meeting in stony silence as the other members around her chattered away. The chatter died away as their leader began the meeting for the day. For the first time in more than a week Marie-Laure showed an interest in something than her own troubles. She sat up and blinked in surprise at what Christian was asking. Was he sick of being a Captain or something?

The second year looked left and right at the others around her to see who would go first. She even looked over at her own captain to see what his reaction was to this topic of discussion. Marie-Laure had very definite ideas on the importance of a captain but she certainly didn't want him to think she was trying to win any points or favours. When it looked like no-one else was willing to begin she finally spoke up. "You put seven people in a room together and you're likely to get seven opinions. If you didn't have a leader there would be chaos. Everything has leaders. You're leader of this club. We have a headmistress for this school. Prefects. There are leaders of France amongst the muggles and our Ministry of Magic. It makes sense that you would also need a leader for a sporting team and it isn't just Quidditch that have captains. Every sport has them. They help keep a team in order."

Are Captains Necessary? Empty Re: Are Captains Necessary?

Osmund had to admit that he preferred actual Quidditch to Qudditch Appreciation Club, but since it was too late to back out of the club after attending for a few years, he felt the need to show up anyway. Also, there was the fact that his best mate ran the club and would probably want his support or something. Osmund was a little jealous of his position, but figured it was one less thing he had to do and Christian often did an alright job of it. Often. Today was the exception.

Osmund nearly fell off his chair when Christian opened his mouth and told them what their topic of discussion was to be. "Are you feeling alright?" He asked, but perhaps not loud enough for Christian to hear him. Christian was crazy about Quidditch, even more than he himself was, and to think that his best mate would question the importance of his own position sent Osmund for a loop. "Of course the captain is important!" He nearly shouted out, wanting to defend the position that was his own, as well as Christian's. He worried though that his own team thought otherwise. Occasionally they acted nearly mutiny like when they tired of his criticism, but other times they got along just fine. He wondered if his own team loathed his presence. No doubt there were a few players that thought they themselves were better suited for the position, namely the seldom players that were older than he was. If his team had the chance to get rid of him, would they?

His own worries were put aside to listen to Marie-Laure. She had a point and Osmund nodded along. Yes, the captain was important, and that could be justified without bias. "Without a leader, there is disorder. But you don't need just any sort of captain on a quidditch team. You need one who knows the rules and who is a natural leader. There's nothing worse than having to be put under control of some sod who hasn't got a clue what he's doing. A good captain is fair, but yet strong." Strong was one way to describe his captaining skills. He just needed to ramble at that moment though to prove his own worth. If he could get one person on his team to agree, namely Marie-Laure, he could be confident he was safe.
