Good News

Kayla felt...ecstatic. That was the word. She couldn't stop grinning all the way back from Cheval, her hand tightly pressed with Greg's. She wished they could have held on longer, but it was curfew by the time they made it to the castle. Reluctantly, she waved Greg goodbye as he headed off to the Feu dorms. She walked slowly deflated for a while before realizing who would be the first to hear the good news from her. The grin reappeared on her face.

She skipped up the deserted stairs and subconsciously entered the password into the common room. She had only one thought in mind. Luckily, the person she wanted to see was still there. Kayla grinned widely and plopped down on the couch next to him. "Guess who has a boyfriend now?" she asked Jonas rhetorically. "And a new music buddy?"

Parker wasn't feeling well and that made Jonas feel a tad bit uneasy. Not to say he was a germophobe, but that he just hated the idea of getting an illness of some sort. It bothered him a little bit that Parker wouldn't go get a potion from the hospital wing. And it bothered Jonas that whatever Parker had, whether it was just a cold, or something more serious, he'd soon catch it, too. It drove him crazy. So he was hiding from his roommate and finishing his homework in the common room.

Of course, the common room was a lot more distracting than Parker's quiet guitar strumming, or his whistling, or even his singing, but Jonas was managing okay. But he was grateful for Kayla breaking his concentration.

"Old news, Kayla. I got that piece of gossip, like, an hour and a half ago," he joked. He then was serious, "Your quidditch team isn't too happy, by the way."

Jonas looked away from his friend, but was still really interested in the conversation. "A new music buddy? What do you mean by that?" he asked, examining a non-magical painting on the wall. It seemed so out of place to not be moving. But in its defense, flowers and fruit didn't move too often.

Kayla raised her eyebrow, slightly taken aback by Jonas's reaction. "Oh no, who's spreading the rumor mill now?" she joked. She leaned back against the couch, closing her eyes and registering what had happened. "I bet you'll never guess who it is either," she added sarcastically.

"I'll make up for it," she promised. "Besides, they were the ones who said they didn't mind cancelling practice today." Inwardly she felt a little guilty. But it wasn't as if she was going to let dating Greg take over Quidditch practice.

"I met this guy, Aidan, who plays guitar, when we were in the Melodic Studies room. He was in a diving accident." She shook her head sympathetically. "And Greg said you're having a crisis over bass. What's going on?"

She remembered another tidbit from her date with Greg. "Greg's coming to the wedding too. Do you want to coordinate outfits? That would be cool!"

Jonas chuckled and dropped his quill. "It wasn't me! Do I have to guess? I'm just going to mess with you, if I do."

Of course Jonas knew that Kayla and Greg were dating. And in his opinion, it was about damn time. He was sick of Kayla telling him about it and Greg awkwardly denying it.

"There was something cool happening in Cheval, I think. I didn't go because I had homework. They were probably all there," Jonas informed her.

Jonas sighed and frowned. "I don't want to talk about it."

Jonas hardly wanted to tell Kayla about his crush. The odds of her approving were slim in his eyes . Normally, he'd tell his friend all about it, but recently, he'd been feeling more distant from her.

He tried his best to muster up some energy. "How about blue sequins?" he suggested. He'd always wanted to wear sequins and he thought Kayla would look really good in blue.
