Somebody Empty Somebody

Starting a new school was a bit scary, especially when you didn't know anyone at all. Since her family stayed to itself, Indigo never got the chance to make many friends. She wasn't as social as she would like to be and making new friends sounded like a difficult task. Should she just go up to someone and start talking? Or should she wait til someone came up to her? She was just like every other person so she didn't think anyone would notice her out of the crowd. The thought of talking to someone made her heart pound. She couldn't do it, she couldn't just go up to someone.

Her parents didn't like large groups so they didn't come along with her, they didn't like the way things were like in society. So, she was on her own until she met someone. If she met someone. She sighed and entered the pub, she hadn't seen so many people in one place before. Her heart began to pound, she wanted to run away. She started to back up but she didn't get far. Before she knew it, she had bumped into someone and almost fell over. Her eyes widened as she looked at the person, her throat dried up. She was too nervous to speak, all she could do was stare.

Cori was horrified and basically having a spasm inside. There were so many people. Oh no, oh no, oh no. How could she get separated from McKenna and Melanie. Oh no. Ah. There were so many people. How was it possible there were so many people in place? Didn't people know the dangers of congregating? The spread of disease? This was terrible. It couldn't get much worse.

Cori was just standing still. Melanie and McKenna would find her. They had to find her. They had to rescue her. The had to-ah! Someone collided with Cori and she fell right on her bum. She looked up at Indigo and blinked about three times. Her throat was dry and had no idea what to say. "I-I-I am s-so sorry. I-I-I didn't see you." She whimpered out. Cori was terrified. Was she about to get shot?

She hadn't meant to run into someone, she didn't know what to do. Her hands began to shake as she looked at the other girl. "I-it wasn't your fault," her voice squeaked. What did she do now? Just stare? Or did she say something else? How did you talk to people? How did you make friends?

She let out a small breath she didn't realize she had been holding. "I-I just have never met people before." She only ever talked to family, mostly her grandmother. It was now time to face her fears and learn how to talk to people. "Want to be friends?" She held out her hand so she could help the girl up. "I'm Indigo."

"I-I-I'm Cori. I-I have met people, but I'm much more comfortable talking to dogs." Cori giggled nervously. Then she asked her about being friends. Was this how it worked? Did you make all friends like this? It must be the only way to do it. And for once she actually had an opportunity to have her own friend who wasn't just someone who interacted with her just because she was McKenna's sister. "I-I'd like being friends very much."

"D-Do you wanna sit down somewhere? We cou-could get drinks. M-My sister is going to come and get me at some point. You could shop with us." Cori offered. "Unless you don't want to. You don't have to if you don't want to."

Making friends was easier than Indigo thought it was going to be. She thought she was going to get turned down when she asked. "I only know family," she admitted softly. "I'm not allowed to leave the house much, so I don't meet many people." Her parents didn't trust people and liked it better when Indigo stayed away from other humans. But they didn't try to stop her when she was accepted into the magical school. Her mother attended Beauxbatons when she was her age, so that was probably part of the reason why she was allowed to come.

"Sure." She looked around, her heart began to pound again. There were so many people. How could she avoid them? She stepped carefully around an older boy, making sure they didn't touch. She stepped over a spill then took a spot at an empty table. "Phew," she let out a sigh. She looked up to see if her new friend had followed her.

"Well now you know more than family." Cori smiled broadly at Indigo. She'd made a friend. Like an actual friend. Not someone that was only her friend because of McKenna. She made her way over to the table excitedly and sat down. "It must be a little exciting right? Getting to be able to go out in the world and experience brand new things? Once you get past how terrifying the world is at least." Cori giggled quietly. "What would you like to drink? I'm probably going to get a butterbeer. My older sister says those are the best. She's a second year."

Indigo didn't find this new world fun, it was scary. She didn't think she'd ever like being away from her family and around a lot of strangers. But, she needed to face facts that she wasn't going to always be at home. She was going to a magical school with other witches and wizards. She needed to calm down before she gave herself a heart attack. Indigo let out a small breath before looking over at the other girl. "I don't think I'll ever like it," she admitted. All her life she had been in the same place and around the same people. Her personal bubble had been popped and she was having a hard time facing it.

"Drinks?" The only thing she really liked was fresh tea and she doubted they would have the kind that she made. The instant stuff was the worst, she liked the tea she brew. "What's butterbeer?" Was it actually an adult drink? Or was that just its name? "I don't think I want anything."
