The Valentine's Dance was turning out to be even better than Fiona had envisioned. Rene was just wonderful and Fiona was very pleased to be one of those lucky few who had a date. Not just a date but a date with the best looking boy in the school. Her boy. Of course they couldn't stay together the whole night. Fiona had one family obligation. Well not exactly an obligation since Caleb was one of those relatives she liked to be around.

"Aha," she cried in triumph, "I've found you." Fiona grabbed at Caleb's arm. "You need to dance with me. This the only dance when we we'll have that chance since you'll be off into the blue wild yonder next year. Come on now. Onto the dance floor with you." She would not take no for an answer. "So how has your night been so far? Not as good as mine I bet?" She smiled and laughed. "Oops. I just did it again."

When Caleb had went to the dance last year, he had thought he was on a date. But as it turned out, he wasn't and he had been so embarrassed. He was also hurt and sad, but he couldn't blame Sawyer, it was him to think that they were on a date after all. This year, he decided to go alone for two reasons; he might mess up again and there was no one that he fancied. Of course he could go with some friends, but his best friends were now a couple and he didn't want to be a third wheel. Being the third wheel was never fun.

He wasn't in much of a party mood and thought about leaving early until his cousin grabbed his arm and demanded him to come to the dance floor. So much for leaving early, he thought. "Hello Fiona," he said with fake enthusiasm. "I'm glad you're having a great night." He truly was, but he wasn't having a great night himself. "My night has been alright." He hadn't seen much of his friends and he was still blue about what happened a year ago. "Let's dance." He walked onto the dance floor then turned to face his cousin. "After this dance, I think I might leave early." He held out his hand for her to take. "While I'm gone, don't do anything crazy."

Her mind skipped right over his plans to leave early onto his order/command/advice/whatever you'd call it. "Me?" Fiona asked. "Do something crazy? What makes you think I'd do a thing like that. I'll have you know that I am a perfect little angel. Why else do you think I chose to wear white? Silly cousin. Don't forget I'll have an whole year without you around pretending to keep an eye on me."

She switched tracks. "Now why do you plan to leave early? That's silly. This is your final year. You can't go yet." Caleb couldn't be allowed to leave. She should find someone who brought their wand with them and make them tie him up. That'll keep him for that little bit longer. "I have a cousinly obligation of my own. That is to make sure you do not go before it is time for all to go. That time is not yet."

"Yes, you. You're the one that does crazy stuff." He grinned, out of all his cousins he knew that Fiona was the one that liked to pull pranks and make messes. "Angel? Millers aren't angels." His family was a bit crazy in their own way and there was never a dull moments. "You chose white because you thought it was a pretty dress, not because you're an angel." He hadn't done much watching over his cousins since they had arrived since they could take care of themselves. "I still have Mabel and Grace to keep an eye on you." Granted if they did look after each other there would be some disagreements. "Are you guys always going to argue? Even when you're old and gray?" He couldn't imagine them arguing for the rest of their lives, but then again he could. "You'll argue about who each of marry and other silly grown up things." Even thought they didn't get along, he liked to think they were still close.

"Well, I've already been here and last year didn't go too well. So, I don't want anything to go wrong this year. If I leave, nothing bad will happen." Hr wanted to go back to his dorm and sleep until the end of the school year. But that wasn't going to happen. "Oh really? How are you going to make me stay?"

Fiona shook back her hair in false offence at his words before grinning. "And yet who's the one who got the prefect badge? Not you. Not Mabel with her grouchy 'I'm so much better than the rest of you losers' attitude. Me. Troublemaker Fiona. Of course there's still a chance Grace will get one as well but we'll have to wait until next year to find out." She snorted at the suggestion. "Mabel only looks out for Mabel. Grace is a little snoop who needs cutting down to size." And Mabel, the one Fiona expected to do that to their sister, had failed in her duty. She grinned and nodded. "Why would we do anything else. Not arguing would make life so stale." Fiona nodded. "Probably. Mabel will claim whoever she marries is much better than anyone else. That is of course provided anyone is brave enough to marry her."

A tut-tut sound came out of Fiona's mouth. "Now that's silly superstitious nonsense. Last year was last year. Whatever happened then happened then. We're here this year and I say you stay until the end." Silly Caleb thinking bad things were gonna happen. "Oh and whatever you do, don't drink the punch. That will end your night." It was nice to warn at least one person though probably by now the issue had been rectified and the punch replaced with something which tasted nicer. Fiona looked Caleb in the eye. "Blackmail."

"Mabel thinks she's better than others? I hadn't noticed that, I thought that was Grace's job." He loved his cousins to death, but their constant bickering was getting a bit annoying. It wouldn't kill them to be nice to each other once and a while. Being nice all the time made Caleb feel great about himself all the time, besides when he was heart broken about Sawyer. He was still heart broken and not himself. "Who do you think would marry Mabel? Grace said something about her liking a fellow. She didn't give any names though." Out of all his cousins, Mabel was the hardest to get information out of.

"I just don't want anything bad happening again," he said softly. "But I guess I could stay since you're somewhat forcing me to." Since there was no one there to break his heart, he didn't have to worry about his heart. But he did worry just about everything else. "Why shouldn't I drink the punch?" He raised an eyebrow to his cousin. "What did you do to the punch?" His cousin was being a bit weird, he wasn't understanding a thing she was saying. "Blackmail, huh?"

"Where have you been living? Under a rock? Of course she thinks she's better than the rest of us. It's even worse when she plays the 'poor little me' card. I'm always in trouble. As if. It's me. The eldest is the responsible one. Grace just thinks she's a little angel who can do no wrong." She sniffed at the injustice of it all. Fiona shrugged. "Fane or Stark I suppose. She hangs around both of them. Mind you I don't really think she will ever marry anyone. I just think if she did she would claim they were better than anyone either Grace or I chose." Of course in Grace's case it would be a girl but it was still the same principle.

She grinned and nodded. "That's the spirit. You will not move from this room until everyone else does. Then you'll see that nothing bad will happen." Fiona gave Caleb an innocent look. "I did not touch the punch," she said honestly. "I just happen to know there might be a little extra punch to the punch. Maybe a hint of chilli." She nodded. "Yes. Blackmail. I'll tell your mum about the extra sweets you've taken if you leave this room. Don't tell you you didn't do it because I know you very well."

"Who would live under a rock? It would be too cramped under there, you'd be better off sleeping on the ground." Sleeping under a rock sounded very uncomfortable. "Do people really live under rocks?" He turned back to the subject that they were already on. "Well, maybe you guys could try to get along? At least for me. As a graduation present?" He would love to see his cousins get along even if it was for a little while. "I'm not sure I'd settle down either," he said softly. Things were so confusing and his feelings were just a mess. "I'll just have tons of cats and own a candy shop."

He still believed something bad would happen, something bad usually happened when someone thought something bad was going to happen. But he couldn't complain anymore, he already agreed to stay. "I'm almost an adult," he replied. But his mom would still be upset with him for eating extra sweets when sugar made him super hyper. "Fine," he said finally. "I'll stay."

Fiona laughed at Caleb's confusion. "It's a saying silly. Haven't you ever heard of it?" She shrugged. "Some people live in caves. That's kind of like living under a rock." Fiona shook her head. "Not gonna happen. Mabel's too grouchy. Grace is too nosy. And I'm just plain annoying. Tell you what. How about I not be quite so annoying as your gift? I might settle down. Maybe. Well perhaps. Hey will you need any workers in your shop?"

She snorted. "Yeah Caleb. Like you'll ever grow up and be an adult. Well you will look like one but be one? I'm not sure that's ever gonna happen." Fiona beamed at the success of her blackmail. "I knew you'll see it my way. And what's more you'll enjoy this night. That is so long as you don't drink the punch."
