Cerisier vs Montagnard: Round I Empty Cerisier vs Montagnard: Round I

Post by Professor Bowen Tue Apr 22, 2014 9:01 am

A new year, a new season. This year would be different from the previous years since it was the captains' last year at Beauxbatons. There would be major competition for the cup. The professor took a deep breath of the fresh air and smiled. She always loved when the sun was shining and there were hardly any clouds out. Summer was beginning to leave but the weather was still warm and was perfect to play quidditch in. She looked from Quentin to Marie-Laure, smiling at both of them. "I expect you to do your best," she started. "It is your last year at Beauxbatons and I expect great things from the both of you." Even if they didn't choose to play quidditch after they graduated, she still expected them to do other things they loved.

"I want a clean game, I want everyone to do their best. Good luck to the both of you and shake hands." Once the captains shook hands, Bowen released the balls and blew her whistle.

Since Montagnard's captain was graduating soon, Mabel took it upon herself to try to become the new captain. Yelling was something she was great at, she was also good at giving orders. The job didn't seem too terribly hard. All she had to do was make sure everyone was practicing, improving, and yell at people who weren't trying at all. It didn't seem hard at all, she would be great at it. She didn't care if people improved really, she just cared if their performances were good. Until she knew for a fact that she would be the captain, she practiced until she felt it necessary to stop. She knew she had improved since last year. She was sure Montagnard was going to win again, they had to have improved quite a bit.

She followed her team onto the pitch, there was still a hint of summer in the air. Once the whistle was blown, Mabel kicked off the ground and was after the first bludger she saw.

Christine was sure to do much better this year.  She hadn't been able to do any more training over the summer since the incident with her uncle but she'd made up for it as much as she could the moment she was back at Beauxbatons.  Swinging around a bat up in the air was plenty of extra practice on the top of training.

The time to test her skills though had now arrived and Christine gulped as she took to the skies on her newly acquired broom.  It was so much better than the school brooms she'd had to fly last year. The bat was also new and her own after her uncle decided shoving money at her to buy what she needed was better than using his son's baseball bat which had to be replaced.

How could a beater go wrong when she was equipped with all new stuff?  Very wrong apparently as she swung at the bludger, managing to hold onto the bat but missing the iron ball completely.  "Do not be vexed Captain," she called out, "I will endeavour to do bet ..."  She spluttered as an insect flew into her mouth.  Talking properly was fraught with hazards at times like this but after talking in such an affected way for this long Christine had no clue how to talk any other way.

Stephanie was nervous. Extremely nervous. Payton Johnson may have graduated and thus the new Montagnard seeker untried but that still didn't give the witch any more confidence she'll be able to catch the snitch before they did. She gripped her broom tightly and pushed off at the signal. She really did have to stop worrying. If she managed to catch the snitch her first year on the team she could do it again. All she had to do was concentrate.

She looked down at her sister and shook her head. "Chris keep your mouth shut," she shouted. What was it with Christine and talking like a nineteenth century book character brought to life? No-one else in the family spoke the way she did. Stephie gritted her teeth and took her attention away from her sister. She needed to focus one the game and more importantly, find that snitch.

After last years success Marie-Laure was determined that her team have a repeat performance. Yes, their seeker had graduated but the new one should do just as well. Hopefully they didn't turn out to be as big a disappointment as the elder Miller sister had been. At least the other one was a more than decent player. "I expect all of you to do your best. In some cases more than your best." A pointed look at one chaser in particular. "Don't rest on last year's success. Cerisier will be determined to win after last year's failure. We have to make sure they fail again this year."

With the pep talk over she turned and led the team out to the pitch. The weather was good and thus she felt there should be no reason for poor playing. Marie-Laure reached out and shook Quinn's hand. There was no way she was going to let him do better than her at scoring this time. Not even the Miller handicap was going to be too much of a set-back. They were up in the air and set to score the first goal. It was not to be and Marie-Laure's jaw was set as she heard the ding at the wrong end of the pitch. Not willing to give in she was soon enough in control of the quaffle and scoring for Montagnard.

Fiona studied her fingernails closely whilst dear Captain Sylvian went on and on about what she expected of them. Maybe she should ask one of the other girls in her year if they could teach her how to do a manicure. She barely looked up even when the speech was over and it was time to go out on the pitch. She dropped her hands to her sides with a sigh and picked up her broom. Why did she put herself through this torture?

Out on the pitch it was obvious that any poor plays could not be blamed on the weather. Anything she did wrong out here would be solely her own fault. The sixth year looked up at the announcer's booth and waved knowing both her cousin and boyfriend were in there today. It did mean dull announcing because everyone knew if you wanted entertainment you listened to Fane not these two. But despite the one shortcoming both Caleb and Rene had she still loved them both. Maybe she could endeavour to play better just for them.

The whistle blew and for once Fiona pushed off the ground with rest of the team. Then she gulped as she noticed how clearly she could see the ground. The ground was a very long way down from up here. "Oh! If I fall who'll save me?" she asked loudly in a panicked voice both hands gripping the broom tightly.

It was Caleb's last year at Beauxbatons and he wanted Montagnard to win as a going away gift. Of course there was no telling who would win the cup, he just hoped it would go to Montagnard again. He couldn't wait to graduate and explore the world. A smile pulled on his face at the nice weather, a perfect way to start the qudditch season. He cleared his throat then turned on his microphone. "Hello everyone and welcome to another year of quidditch. Montagnard won the cup last year, but can they do it again? Let's see."

The first goal went to Cerisier, which was a bummer for Caleb. He still had faith in his house, they could pull through like they had many times before. "It's tied, let's get this game rolling."

Trent was half curious if he would be voted captain. He didn't think he would be, but it was something he hoped to be. One, because his quidditch skill was the only thing he truly had going for him (his academic skill was not the best to put it nicely), and two it would probably impress Guen a little. Though he would be perfectly happy with Stephanie being a captain. She had seniority over him and was a talented player.

Trent cracked his back and chuckled to himself at the banter between the two sisters. "Focus you two." He warned softly, but with a force to it. He wanted to go out there and win. Well, he wanted to smite Montagnard off the pitch, but that was a minor detail right now. Trent heard the Montagnard chaser Miller express her fear of falling and bit his lip. He kind of felt bad for her and her lack of quidditch ability. Though, it was also unfair that her boyfriend up in the box kind of covered up her blunders. She was bloody awful. There was hardly any other thing to say other than that.

Trent sighed and soared around for a while just getting some bearings. He saw a maroon ball and dove after it, feeling a familiar smack against his palm. He gritted his teeth into a competitive grin and zoomed as fast as he could towards the Montagnard goal post. He felt so good to among the air where he belonged again. Trent lifted his arm in a strong ninety degree angle and whipped his arm down watching the ball soar past the keeper and into the goal.

Post by Quentin D'Angelo Thu Apr 24, 2014 9:03 pm

Last year didn't go so well for Quinn, but he had been studying up on Quidditch techniques and was determined to bring home the cup for his last year as captain. It was almost sad to go, but Quinn could mull over his woes of graduating after he kicked some serious butt in Quidditch. As the sportsmanship like captain Quinn pretended to be, he shook Marie-Laure's hand and wished her good luck, but his eyes said otherwise.

Once the game was in motion, Cerisier wasted little time getting goals, which Quinn proudly contributed to. They weren't doing too bad, he thought. Perhaps they had a shot at winning all three games this season, like Montagnard had done to them.

Quinn had been holding the quaffle when he heard the posh voice of their beater call out to him. She still wasn't the strongest player on the team, but he bet that by time she was a seventh year, she'd have the techniques down. Pity for him that she was still only a second year. "Don't worry about it, Henrau," Quinn called in response, chuckling as she had managed to swallow a bug. He was about to add words of encouragement when a Montagnard chaser took advantage of his distracted state and stole the quaffle from beneath his arm.

Stephanie could be so rude sometimes. Actually, come to think of it, so could their eldest sister but Marie was not the one who was here. It was the sister Christine hoped would not become captain next year. She would yell at her more than their current captain did. Much more. Captain d'Angelo was so much nicer and even laughed a little at her small problem with a bug.

The small blonde beater gripped her bat tighter and with grim determination flew after the next bludger she saw. This time the bat brushed against the bludger but Christine was not put off by the poor result. "I still have a hold of my bat," she called out to whoever might be listening. Yes. That was much better than last year and she was sure it was because this bat was truly hers and not merely a school bat.

"Miller," Marie-Laure called out, "stop playing around." There may be two Millers on the team but it had to be obvious which one she was yelling at. Certainly the beater had never given her any grief. It was too bad her sister was not more like her. She shook her head at the other chaser and focused on her own efforts. It was obvious it was only Green and herself who were of any use.

She smiled at a golden opportunity in which Quinn was too busy encouraging one of his beaters to notice her stealing the quaffle and taking off with it. Now they were only ten points behind Cerisier and Marie-Laure was confident they could catch up. Catch up and overtake. She shot a look at her team seeker. They had to know what to do right? If not it wouldn't only be Miller who'll be getting a dressing down after the match.

Fiona momentarily forgot her problem and made a face at her captain's back. Didn't anyone understand how nervewracking it was for her to be up this high with nothing between her broom and the ground? It was like the worst feeling in the world and she was again questioning the wisdom of trying out just to be a flea in the ear of her younger sister. Maybe take something that had been hers alone. A bit like the way Mabel had stolen her pranking partner away from her.

She looked around for where her sister was positioned and considered her options. Not her options. Just the future if Mabel were to be made captain over Stark, the only other viable option on the team. Certain she didn't want captaincy. Prefect was enough responsibility. The quaffle coming her way woke Fiona out of the dreaded situation of next year to the here and now. And managed to catch it.

"Um right. Stark? Marie-Laure? Either of you here." Oh blow. She couldn't see either of them and Fiona had to dodge fast before one of the Cerisier players could get it away from her. Before she knew it she was scoring and then redirecting her broom in a direct path to Mabel just because she could.

The scores kept tying up and it was very annoying to watch. Since Montagnard had a new seeker, either team could win. The seeker wasn't as experienced as their old seeker was and they would see how well their seeker could play. She hit a bludger towards a blue and green clashed player. If no one else would perform their best, then she would. Okay, maybe she wasn't the only one wide awake during this game. The only person she saw doing their job was the captain. Her sister was still terrible at the game which made Mabel glare at her. Who let her on the team if she was no good? She was only going to bring them down? Even Fiona knew she was no good at the sport, she shouldn't have tried out in the first place then.

"Come on, Fiona! Get your head in the game!" She didn't care if her sister hurt herself trying, she needed to get her act together and help score. It was embarrassing to watch.

One more year, one more time to show the students of Beauxbatons that Montagnard had what it takes to win. They had won all three games last year and they could do it again if everyone worked just as hard as they did before. She wanted her team to win again for her last year but she didn't want Quinn's team to lose for his last year, this left the blonde feeling very conflicted.

That conflicting feeling quickly dispersed when the whistle was blown and the small beater was in the air. Paige was back in game mode and the only thing on her mind was how she can help her team. The others scored first but Montagnard quickly came back kicking. The score fluctuated like this for most of the game while Paige was sending bludgers away from her teammates towards anyone in the blue and green. Another point for Montagnard brought the score to even. "Good job you guys keep it up!" She yelled cheerfully before chasing another iron ball.

"The scores are tying and Captain Sylvian is barking orders," Caleb noted. The constant tying was getting a bit annoying, but nothing was changing. "Cerisier is also doing a great job at scoring." He couldn't sound biased, so he had to say something about the other house. "Christine still has her bat, she's improving," Caleb joked lightly. He didn't mean any harm by it and hoped the girl just ignored his statement. "As chasers, it's your job to score," he called out. "Come on Fiona, you can do it." Embarrassing his cousin was not an issue, the issue was winning and her improving. How was she supposed to improve if she was afraid to try?

"Looks like Montagnard takes the lead again! Come on new seeker, catch that snitch!"

It was Stark's second year on the Montagnard quidditch team and he was more than happy to report that his first year had been a huge success. His team had swept the other by winning all three of the possible matches, which only happens very rarely the last time being the current Cerisier captain's cousin's first year as captain, if Stark remembered the details from what he had read correctly. He wished to do the same, or at least enough to win the cup, to show everyone he wasn't just on the team because Professor Bowen was despite and to make his captain proud, especially since it was her last year.

Once the whistle was blown the players were all off. Stark did his best to keep up with all of the chasers and even scored a goal or two. However the two teams continuously tied with one another and even the green-horned Green knew that was no good. Finally Montagnard drew ahead again and he aimed to keep it that way, so he quickly got the quaffle and worked it towards the other side with the aid of other chasers, and finally threw it through the middle hoop making his team ahead by two. He wasn't about to stop there and continued to follow the quaffle closely.

Stephanie doggedly ignored her sister's antics. She had the much more important task of finding that snitch and finding it before the Montagnard seeker did. The day was perfect weather for seeking but that mean it was perfect for both seekers and Stephanie gritted her teeth as she fought against the daydreams which threatened her ability to concentrate. It was a hard battle but she was winning.

Then she saw it and Stephanie was after the fluttering gold ball. She could only assume the other seeker saw it too but she just kept her focus on that snitch. Any distraction, including seeing where her opponent was, would make it harder for herself. There it was. All she had to reach out to grab it and the game would go to Cerisier. Then it happened. Another hand beat her to it and Montagnard won yet again.

Stephanie pulled up her broom and sighed in frustration at final score announcing Montagnard as the winners of the first match of the season.

Rene knew he wasn't the most brutal announcer ever, but it wasn't his fault. He didn't like yelling at people unless he was angry and Montagnard's quidditch team hadn't done that in a while. Some (most) might argue that he should call out Fiona on her poor play, but she just looked so cute in her uniform and paying attention to negatives was not easy at all. He blushed slightly, right, he was announcing with her cousin. Staring was a no, no right now. "Both teams are having trouble gaining momentum. First team to dictate pace is probably going to win here. I'd be shocked if someone pulled a win out of their butt today."

Trent exhaled in frustration as Montagnard caught the snitch. He didn't blame Stephanie at all. He was just tired of losing. They had to catch a break at some point. They just had to or Trent was going to scalp himself. Well, maybe not scalp himself but something he would regret down the line. Was it so bad to want to win? He didn't think so at all. He thought it was a good trait. An especially good trait if he became captain somehow. Though he was still down on that possibility. Stephanie deserved it just as much as he did if not even more so.

"And Montagnard wins!" Rene yelled as the whistle sounded. "What a great way to start the year off with a 230-80 in over the Sissies I mean Cerisiers. Great effort by the whole team today." Rene grinned. He loved when his team won because he could make fun of Cerisier. God, he hated Cerisier. Cerisier was literally one of the worst things ever. The stupid snobbish perfect Cerisiers were frustrating and were just so tedious to be around. That being said there were certainly people in his own house he could do without or at least people who were an effort to talk to. There were very few people he could have a casual conversation with.

The game was brutal it seemed as if neither team was going to get a strong enough lead to impact the game. That unfortunately meant that it would come down solely on the playing of the seekers. That wasn't exactly her favorite way to play the game but it was how it usually went down but Paige intended to help her team and seeker to win. She attempted to knock a bludger towards the Cerisier seeker to slow her down but it missed.

She was frustrated with herself but there weren't any bludgers around and both seekers were head and head to reach the gold ball only they could seem to see. She wished her bludger had hit the Cerisier seeker but Montagnard still caught it and the crowd roared. Paige smiled brightly before heading towards the ground to celebrate with her team.

Stark was working his butt off to try and keep the quaffle in the hands of a Montagnard chaser, but somehow the Cerisier's continuously got a hold of it and brought their score back up some more. At this point it would be time for the new seeker to step up and help them out, the chasers were just too evenly matched this time. Stark wanted to help them pull ahead but it was just impossible to keep their score higher than Cerisier for more than a few moments at a time.

Finally the whistle was blown and the players all started to descend. He was happy to find the new seeker had the tiny gold ball in their hand. He cheered and smiled with pure happiness, they had won the first match of the season. That would put them in good standing for the rest of the season.
