Being Short Is A Pain

Post by Guest on Sat Feb 01, 2014 3:13 pm

Guenevere was working on her assignment from Potions way ahead of the game. The essay wasn't due for a few more class sessions, but as always, she had to get a head start on it. She flipped through the one book and could not find anything to help in answering the question. Sighing heavily, Guen hopped up and brought the book back to it's rightful place on the shelf. She wandered among the shelves, running her fingers along the spine looking for the book that would be the most helpful. Guen found it...but it was one shelf too high for her to reach. She jumped trying to reach it and was met with failure and her bum on the ground. She glanced around quickly, hoping that no one saw her fall. Guen got up quickly and saw a student who was a little bit taller than herself. Hmm... maybe she could ask them.

August wasn't a big reader, but since he had nothing else to do he was willing to read a good book. He entered the library with the thought of finding a book that would spark his interest. A mystery maybe? No way was he going to read a text book that was in his dorm. He had run out of books to read so he had to go to the library to fetch a new one.

Upon entering the book filled room, he saw students talking in hushed voices, students reading, and students looking for a book. One person in particular looked like she needed a bit of help and when she fell on her butt, Gus knew that he was right. He made his way toward her, avoiding tables and other students. "Hello," he offered his hand for her to take so he could help her up. "I'm August and do you need help?" He offered a smile to the girl.

Guen looked up, her cheeks reddening only because someone had seen her fall. "H-hello." She took his hand gently and carefully stood, smiling gratefully. "I'm Guenevere." She said quietly, looking up at him. "Thank you and, uh, yes, do you think you could fetch that one up there for me? I would really appreciate it." She pointed to the book that she wanted. "It's the one about antidotes for common poisons." Guen offered another smile, she didn't think that what she was asking was too much. "What year are you, August?" She asked curiously. He was obviously older than her by a few years. Her guess was that he was a fourth or fifth year student.

"I would be delighted to get that book for you," he said politely, he reached for the book that she had pointed out. "There you go." He handed the girl the book. "I'm guessing this is for a report or something. Homework," he grinned, he didn't like doing homework but he did it anyways. Isn't that how it always is? Students never really liked homework but did it anyways.

"Oh, I'm a fourth year. You're younger, let me guess what year you're in." He hadn't seen her until this day so she had to be at least a first or second year. "I'm guessing first since I see a lot of faces and I haven't seen yours until today."

Guen smiled gratefully at him and took the book from him. "Thank you again." She nodded. "And yes, it's for a potions assignment." She looked a little embarrassed. "I wanted to get a head start on it and get it done with." She didn't mind doing work at all, honestly. She kind of enjoyed it...she wouldn't mention that to anyone, but Trent.

Fourth year, she guess right then. "I'm a first year." She nodded. "I don't know very many people outside of my year." Guen admitted, looking up at him and studying him carefully. She noticed that he was also in Cerisier like her. Huh...how had she missed him at the dorm? Not like it really mattered.

"Better than waiting till last minute," August replied, she wouldn't have to worry about getting it done later if she got it done early. He always got his work done and almost never worried about it. Waiting last minute was something that he couldn't do, he had to get his things done on time. "It's good that you're not doing it last minute."

"I don't know many people, but I must warn you of this third year. If you ever find yourself in the presence of Mabel Miller, either run or don't say anything. She's a wicked little girl, very rude. She's in Montagnard so you don't have to worry about seeing her around the common room. But there's friendly people out there too."

"My thoughts exactly." She nodded in agreement. "I hate waiting till the last minute, it stresses me out." Guen tucked a loose curl behind her ear. "I don't mind doing homework too...a bit odd I know, but it's true. I find it fun to learn new things." She smiled sheepishly.

"Mabel Miller? Is she really that awful?" Guen asked curiously and tilted her head. She found it odd that a thirteen year old girl could be called wicked. Granted she once knew a five year old that was positively evil...so anything was possible then. "And who's out there that's friendly?" She really should try to talk to people more often.
