Danielle sat in Defense Against the Dark Arts one day, listening attentively and scribbling notes on a piece of parchment. She glanced aroud and saw that she was pretty much the only one; almost everybody else was half-asleep, tuning out Professor Cox's lecture. Danielle had no idea why nobody was listening; Defense Against the Dark Arts, she thought, was the coolest subject at Beauxbatons.

After about a half an hour, however, even she found it difficult to pay attention. Her hand was cramping from writing so quickly, her notes virtually illegible, and the professor's lecture showed no signs of stopping. She lay her head down on the table and had difficulty keeping herself from dozing off.

Ruby was excited about starting a wizarding school. It was so cool! She still couldn't believe that she was a witch and she had to pinch herself to make sure it wasn't all a dream. How could she be a wizard? Were her parents wizards? She pinched herself once more and she knew it defiantly wasn't a dream.

Once she entered the classroom and class had begun, she began to become very interested. The subject was excellent! How cool was it that they were going to learn spells that would protect themselves? Professor Cox's speech had Ruby on the edge of her seat and she was eager to learn more.

Tamara found herself interested in the professor's lecture. Her voice was a bit dry... And, her ancient grandmother covered only some of the stuff mentioned. She found it only slightly hard to pay attention to the lecture.Tamara tucked hair behind her ear and glanced around to see what others were doing. Some were furiously taking notes, others sleeping, and others were listening intensely. She sighed softly and focused back on the lecture, attempting to take down notes. She was failing miserably at the whole concentrating thing, so Tamara began doodling her house crest in her notebook, along with other little swirls and flowers.

Danielle's eyelids grew heavy. She pushed herself to continue to listen to the lecture, but had stopped paying attention long ago. Late summer sunlight poured in through the open window, further contributing to Danielle's drowsiness. She looked around the room and saw she wasn't the only one not paying attention; half the class was asleep, a few, like Ruby Thomas, were still listening attentively, and some, like Tamara Perle, were doodling on spare parchment. Professor Cox seemed completely oblivious to the lack of focus among the students. After trying desperately to stay awake for what seemed like forever, Danielle lay her head down on her desk and succumb to sleep.

Ruby thought this subject was a great one but some others didn't think so. Some people were asleep. How could someone sleep during such a great lesson? She folded a plane out of parchment and sent it Tamara's way while the professor wasn't looking. She had written a small note on it asking if she wanted to hang out after their classes were over. When Professor Cox turned back towards his class, Ruby smiled and acted as if she had done nothing at all. This lesson was a great one and seemed to last forever, which made Ruby happy. But she also wanted to leave and have a bit of fun.

Tamara jumped in her seat slightly when a paper airplane landed in front of her. Instead of opening it, she glanced around trying to figure out who sent it. (Not very bright this one). She unfolded it when the professor's back was turned to her and read over it. Tamara looked up, making sure Professor Cox was busy lecturing and not looking her way, before scribbling in her swoopy handwriting "Yeah! That'd be fun.". She bit her lip, yep... she was soooo going to get caught. Tamara quickly folded it back and sent it Ruby's way. She sighed, glad the professor hadn't caught her.

After sleeping through the remainder of the lesson, Danielle was awoken by the bell that signalled the end of classes for the day. She quickly copied down the homework assignment from the chalkboard at the front of the room, and then along with the rest of the class stood up and began gathering her things. She felt slightly guilty for falling asleep in the middle of Professor Cox's lecture, but thought little of it. After all, half of the class had been sleeping as well. She gathered her things off of her desk and shoved them lazily into her bag before making her way towards the door.

Tamara yawned behind her hand, shutting her notebook. The other students were beginning to shuffle out of the classroom. The lesson was somewhat interesting, it was just the professor's droning voice made it hard to concentrate. She packed her things up and put them neatly into her bag. Tamara stood, running a hand through her hair, heading over to Ruby's desk. She leaned against her friend's desk. "So, what do you want to do?" Tamara wasn't sure if Ruby had anything in particular in mind or if they were just going to go hang out in the library or around the grounds.
