Rosalie knew that Kai's birthday was coming up, and she wanted to do something special for him. However, she wasn't really talented in anything, besides photography and acting, but she wanted it to be unique from her obvious talents and surprise him. So, she sought off to the kitchens to find a recipe for a birthday cake. At first she had no idea where to look for a 'cookbook' as many people called it, but she eventually found something along the lines of it.

"A cup of flour..." She spoke softly and looked around to try find the flour. "Uh...this looks like flour?" She said picking up the bag and heading back to her work station, but on her way back she didn't notice the wet spot on the floor and the other fact the bag of flour was open. So, when she step on the wet spot and slipped the bag of flour when up in a cloud of smoke and covered her in a layer of white from top to bottom.

Malachi liked spending some time in the kitchens. The house elves were always so pleasant to him and offered him more than he could eat in snacks. They also were always working so hard and Malachi felt the need to stop in and thank them occasionally. He imagined not many students did that. However, when he entered the kitchens that day, he found it empty of the chattering squeaky voices of the house elves and instead heard the voice of a rather baffled girl.

He recognized the pretty long haired girl but before he could greet her, she ended up tripping and spilling a bag of flower on herself. A cloud of flour rose in the air and Malachi fanned it away from him to no avail as he made his way over to help the girl up. He coughed on the powder and emerged from it with white covering his red hair. "Fraulein, are you alright?" He inquired, as he pulled her to her feet and dusted off her shoulders. "What were you doing? Do you want me to help? I've helped my Mama cook a few times," Malachi offered, assuming that she was indeed concocting some sort of food with the flour.

Rosalie didn't even notice the intruder enter into the kitchens. She had been so caught off guard by the initial slip and flour cloud that she didn't even realize Malachi was helping her up until her started to speak. Coughing a bit she looked up into his eyes and smiled a bit. "Danke, Kai!" She laughed a bit and then allowed her face to fall realizing who the intruder was and why he pertained to the situation. "Oh!" You have to get out! It was supposed to be a surprise!" She exclaimed and pushed on his chest, guiding him to the door.

Looking around her, she realized that the mess she had made was going to take eons to clean up. She sighed heavily and looked to Malachi who was still standing in the doorway and gave up in defeat. "It was supposed to be a cake for your birthday, but.....I'm not really good at making cakes...or food in general." She sighed biting her lip. "I hope you're not mad..." She said softly and looked up at the boy with her golden brown eyes glistening, despite her flour stained hair and cheeks.

Malachi hardly finished brushing himself off before Rosalie was scooting him out of the room. "Huh?" He uttered out of confusion, though put up little resistance to her pushing him. "What are you talking about?" He paused at the exit of the kitchen and turned around to face the flour covered girl.

"Ohh," Malachi replied, as Rosalie finally clarified. He had almost forgotten that his birthday was coming up. Birthdays hadn't been the same since he started attending school away from his Mama and Papa, and last year the only thing he did in celebration of his special day was open the package his parents had sent him. They bought him a lovely set of watercolor paints and he thanked them in a lengthy letter. However, nothing beat eating a homemade cake.

"You were going to make a cake...for me?" Malachi questioned, starting to get choked up with emotions. The notion was so sweet of her, especially since cooking wasn't her thing, yet she wanted to try anyway. Malachi ran up to her and pulled her into the tightest hug without thinking. "Thank you...thank you so much, Fraulein!" He said, holding her tight. "I'm always so sad around my birthday. I miss my family. But you, you make me so happy. Thank you," He stuttered out the emotions, but somehow managed he. When he pulled away, he brushed some flour from her hair and then went to fetch a broom. "Here, let me help you," He said, starting to sweep up the mess. He knew a thing or two about cooking himself and that way him and Rosalie could share the cake once it was finished.

Rosalie looked at the boy and was suddenly wrapped into a hug. She felt a slight blush fill her cheeks and she looked up into his eyes. "You make me happy too." She smiled and chuckled a bit as he tried to brush the flour from her hair. "Thank you, but it'll probably take a few showers to get this out." Though as he started to help her she was really insistent that he didn't, she didn't want to put him out of his way. "Oh no no no! You don't have to!" She said quickly, "This is my mess!" She exclaimed and tried to take the broom. "Please, I don't want you to get anymore floury than I've already gotten you." She chuckled and moved her hair out of her face, but he seemed content with helping her. Sighing she decided that it was fine.

Looking over at him she smiled as they finished cleaning up the mess. "SO how has your school been so far, I mean we don't have a ton of classes together, but I was just curious how you were doing?" She smiled sweetly and blushed a bit.

Malachi persisted on sweeping the floor and kept the broom away from Rosalie when she had attempted to snatch it from him. "Nein, nein, I do not mind," He replied. He was already covered with flour and there was no changing that whether he stayed to help or not. "Besides, it's the least I could do for you," He added and continued to help sweep up. Too bad he didn't know any good spells yet for the task, but then again, he was used to sweeping at home so it wasn't too bad.

Working together, they managed to clean up the mess in a brief amount of time. Malachi finished sweeping some flour into a dust pan and dropped it into the garbage and smiled up at Rosalie when she asked him a question. "I'm fine," He replied, still smiling. "Though, I do still miss my family sometimes. I spent all summer with them and even got a chance to visit my cousins in Dresden." He rubbed his arm tenderly. "Sometimes I wish I had family in the school so I wouldn't be so lonely." He shook his head and smiled again. "But that doesn't matter. I've got friends, right?" he said. "Sorry for being stuck on myself. Shall we get started on a new cake?" He opened the cookbook and examined the recipe. "maybe we'll try an easier one," he offered as he turned pages to a simpler cake and then bent down to take out a few bowls. "How are you?"

Rosalie smiled at him as he helped her clean up the mess. She was very thankful for it, especially since together they were able to finish in record time. Once they were done, Rose sat up on the counter and listen to him talk about his family and how he missed them. In truth, she didn't really know if she missed hers, yes she loved them, but she was a little unsure if they really wanted what was best for her, after all try really only cared about the income when she was modeling.

Rosalie had though about telling Kai before, but she was afraid he'd judge her, thinking that she was just another pretty girl stereo-type. However, before she knew it, the question was flipped on her. "Me?" She asked. "I'm fine I suppose," she said grabbing a whisk. "I'm just trying to make friends, my room mate is really sweet, as well as her friend. He was very sweet and curtious when we spoke." She smiled. "Also, this boy named Phillip, I met him in the stables the other day when it rained. He ran right into me!" She chuckled, "But he was such a gentelman about everything." Rose explained and paused in though for a moment. "Overall, I'm fine, just floury." She giggled.

Malachi smiled back at her as he assorted the ingredients they would need to use in front of him. He had helped Mama bake before, but this time he didn't have her help and instead had a girl with less skill than he. He just hoped that the cake would turn out edible. Not because he needed a cake, but because he wanted to enjoy the cake with Rosalie when it was completed.

"Oh? They sound lovely!" Kai replied, chipperly. "Guess it made up for accidentally knocking you over, eh?" Malachi offered, though in the back of his mind, he wondered what exactly she meant by 'he was such a gentleman.' He shook his head. Why did it matter to him? He was probably embarrassed and trying to be nice to make up for the blunder. "Here," Malachi suddenly spoke up, dropping the appropriate amount of flour and sugar into a bowl. "Mix these together, okay? I'll get the wet ingredients."

Rosalie smiled, "I suppose they are, aren't they." They were nice friends, but she seriously enjoyed Kai's company whether he knew it of not. "So I just whisk it like this. She said moving the whisk in an obvious wrong pattern, but with as little experience as she had she was really unsure about anything. "Ummm" she said looking at the batter which was all gooey and icky looking. "I think I broke it, I'm sorry I ruined your birthday cake." She said softly and sadly, "I hope you can forgive me, Kai. I just wanted you to have the best birthday ever." She smiled small and looked straight down at her feet.

Malachi was cracking eggs into a separate bowl when he heard Rosalie question her own actions. "Ummm, no, turn it sideways and...no, not like that," He said, watching her try her hardest, yet manage to fall short. He didn't blame her. The technique felt awkward to novices and here was Rosalie whom Malachi doubted ever made a meal in her life.

He put down the bowl of wets and moved towards Rosalie. "Hey, hey, it's alright! Look! It's just clumpy! That goes away when you mix it. Let me show you," Malachi said, lifting up her face and offering her a smile. He was worried she was about to cry or something. "You do it like..." He cut off. How exactly was he to adequately show her? He placed the whisk back into her hand and positioned her in front of the bowl and held onto her hands and moved them like a puppet master. "See? and you make circles with it like this," He explained as he moved her hand within his own.

Rosalie was struggling with the whisk to the max, she just for some reason couldn't get the strokes of it quite right, she felt herself getting truly frustrated when then the product wasn't as pretty as it had been whenever one of her family's chef's had done it. Sighing, she was about to give up when Malachi wrapped his arms around hers and moved her hands in the right movements. "T-...thank you.." She said caught a little off guard. She turned her head and looked up into his eyes, she felt a blush starting on her cheeks and looked back down at the bowl and let him lead her. She couldn't understand how she felt towards him....what was this emotion.

Malachi was standing right behind her with his arms resting around her figure in order to show her the technique. The position a mock of an embrace and one that lasted longer than anything of a friendship nature. However, Malachi thought nothing of it, oblivious to the close contact until he heard the oddness in Rosalie's voice. It was then that he looked again and noticed, his hands immediately letting go as his face burned bright. "Ummm! I think y-you've got it now!" He explained and moved back to his own space. He decided then to work on the frosting as she finished up with the batter.

Confectionary sugar and cream cheese went into a bowl, which he mixed until smooth. "Pour the batter into one of those trays there and then it can go into the oven," Malachi explained. They were almost at the point where they would just have to wait and would be eating a delicious cake soon enough, Malachi was sure.

Rosalie blushed at the nervous attitude of Kai, who was blushing and stuttering just as much as she was. Personally, she thought it was adorable. He had his little sweet way of doing things and it just made her happy to see him happy.

When she was done mixing the ingredients together, she followed his instruction and poured the batter into one of the pans that he had gotten out for her. Once the the batter was laid out, she picked it up and walked over to the oven. Opening the door she placed the soon to be cake in and closed the door. Walking back over to Kai, she sat next to him on the counter. "How long do we wait now?" She said wide eyed, with excitement. This was the first time she had ever done anything like this and was truly excited for the result, and even more excited that she got to share it with Kai.

The German boy continued to stir the confectionary sugar in with the creamy cheese while Rosalie put the cake in the oven. He took note as to what time it went it by stealing a glance at the clock on the wall. They'd have to check after twenty minutes to see how the cake was doing and then determine if it needed to be in longer or not. In the meantime, all they could do was pass time together.

"It'll be awhile," Malachi replied, smiling gently at Rosalie's excitement. "No one has ever baked a cake for you before, have they?" He asked, a somber tone to his voice. He didn't know much about Rosalie's lifestyle or her family, but they didn't seem as close as his own and he had the feeling that there was much she missed out on.

He looked down at the bowl, examining the creamy icing he mixed together. He was pleased with the texture, but it was the taste that would matter ultimately. He dipped his finger in and was about to taste it himself when he suddenly remembered Rosalie. When he was little and helping his mother in the kitchen she always let him taste the food and so he wanted to do the same for Rosalie. "Here," He said, lifting the icing to her lips. "Tell me if it's sweet enough."

Rosalie looked at Kai and smiled. The cake was baking and soon it'd be ready to eat. She was so excited, she could hardly stand it. It was the first time she'd ever gotten to do something like this. While she sat on the counter waiting he mixed the icing. Finally he seemed content with the product and dipped a finger into the white creamy solution. Pausing for a moment he turned and offered his finger to her. Smiling she nodded. Parting her dainty lip she placed them around his finger and sucked on his finger lightly until the sweet white frosting was gone from his finger. "It tastes...sweet.." She smiled.
