Not-So-Smart Shopper Empty Not-So-Smart Shopper

Danielle was sitting alone at a table in the La Petit Dragon, reviewing her shopping list. She had wanted her parents to come with her, but they both had to go to work and only had just enough time to drop her off before leaving. She sipped her butterbeer while reading the list provided to her in her acceptance letter to Beauxbatons. She had mixed emotions about school shopping. Part of her couldn't contain her excitement at the fact that she was soon to start her training at the most famous and prodigious school of magic in all of France, but the other part knew she'd end up impulse-buying the first things she saw, which had always been a bad habit of hers.

Ruby was super excited about going to Beauxbatons and she walked with a bounce in her step. She hummed a tune as she walked into the La Petit Dragon with her parents behind her. She was glad they had come with her and she had learned that her father knew what he was doing because he had attended the same school. Since she was adopted, she didn't know where she had come from nor did her parents. It shocked all of them that she had magic in her blood.

While her parents talked to one another, Ruby slipped away from them and walked around. She touched tables, chairs, things on the walls, anything. She wanted to remember this. She stopped in front of a table that held a girl that was probably her age. "Do you mind if I touch your table?" It was a weird request but she wasn't going to explain herself.

Danielle looked up from her list to see a girl about her age. "Oh, hello." She set the list down on the table and took another sip of her butterbeer, taking in the girl's curious request. "You want to touch my table?" she asked, amused by this seemingly eccentric girl. "Well, you may certainly sit at it, if you'd like," she replied with a welcoming smile and a gesture to the chair across from her. The girl seemed nice enough; no doubt she was a fellow student about to start her first year at Beauxbatons, just as Danielle was. "What's your name?" she asked friendlily.

Ruby smiled and took a seat upon the invitation. "Hello." She crossed her legs under the table and put her elbows on the table. She was taught to not put her elbows on the table and not to talk to strangers. But how was she supposed to make friends if she didn't talk to a random person first? "Oh, I'm Ruby, Ruby Thomas. Pleased to meet you."

"Have you seen the school uniforms?" Ruby put her finger in her mouth and made a gagging sound. "They're so boring! I'm defiantly going to have to make some improvements to that boring old thing!" She didn't want to look like everyone else, she wanted to be herself.

Danielle laughed. "I just got here. I've not seen them yet. Though from what I've heard, they do look dreadful." She continued looking at her shopping list. "Have you got any of your shopping done yet?" she asked Ruby. "I haven't yet. My parents just dropped me off here, gave me some money, and told me to go crazy. So, naturally, I put off my shopping to have a drink." She took another sip of her butterbeer. She pulled two Sickles out of her pocket. "Would you like one?" she asked, standing up and preparing to head over to the bar.

"I haven't done any shopping yet, I came here with my parents. My daddy is a wizard." Though he wasn't her real father, she didn't get her magical blood from him. "Sure, I'd love a butterbeer! Thanks!" This other girl was nice and was alright in Ruby's book. "You know what, I think we should become friends. Sounds like an amazing idea!" Of course it was amazing, it was coming from her own brain after all. She was always coming up with ideas, good or bad. Some ended up getting her in trouble, but she did them anyways. She waited patiently for her friend to return from getting her a drink. It was really nice of her to offer her a drink, it brought a smile to her face.

Danielle walked over to the bar and waited for her order to be taken. When she ordered Ruby's butterbeer, she handed over the two sickles and waited.

"Here you go," Danielle said, setting Ruby's butterbeer in front of her on the table. She sat back down and continued sipping her own drink. "You're right," she told Ruby. "We should become friends." Danielle was happy; she'd made her first friend!

After sitting, chatting, and enjoying their butterbeers for a while, Danielle checked the time. "We'd better get going. I dunno about you, but I haven't even started on my shopping yet."

Ruby thanked her friend and took a sip from her drink. After some time had passed, the girls would have to leave and do some shopping. "Oh, time went by fast!" Ruby examined her watch then looked at her friend. "Well, I hope to see you around and I hope your shopping goes well. My parents must be waiting for me."

She got up from her spot then gave a little curtsy. "Good bye, this is when we part ways. But we will see each other in the future." Ruby then skipped back to her parents and they left the shop together.
