It's Not A Secret

Post by Madeline Puchard on Wed Aug 10, 2016 11:05 pm

Madi wasn't too pleased with being a Prefect. It took time away from her studies to be a glorified hall monitor. Between her cousin's extra quidditch drills and her prefect duties, she barely had time to study for O.W.Ls. She did what she could to study on duty, but in some areas, it was impossible. And when she got an extra two hours of sleep when she had to patrol the halls, she was up at the same time her cousin was, hitting the books.

The Prefects took turns walking the halls after lights out, each having three hour shifts. Another would relieve them after their hours were up. Tonight, Madi had to relieve Rajan, the nasty boy she had met in the previous year. He was an awful boy, but also an awful Prefect. He was always breaking the rules and if the Head Boy or Head Girl reprimanded him, he somehow managed to avoid detention. Madi had a theory that he tore up detention slips in the Headmistress' office, but she didn't know for sure, and there was no way to actually find out.

They had a proper place to be relieved from, but when Madi arrived, Rajan was nowhere to be seen. She was immediately irritated that she had to go searching for him. Typically, one would wake up the Head Boy or Girl and if that wasn't possible, the Head of House, to track a missing Prefect down, but the last thing she wanted to do was wake anyone up at twelve in the morning. So she wandered around the Dungeons, which was creepy at night. It was dimly lit and everything creaked. Madi was just praying that Wendy was asleep and she didn't have to deal with the Poltergeist.

She finally found him, but right before she could whisper his name and chew him out, she noticed him with someone she didn't recognize. As bad as it was, Madi was eager to find out some information that could get him in trouble. Anything at all so she didn't have to deal with the boy. So she stood behind a pillar, out of sight, so she could listen. They were already busted, but the fifth year was curious.

Re: It's Not A Secret

Usually Wynter was one to follow the rules and never liked to get into any trouble. She knew her dad at her age was very different from her, she was a rule follower and her father had been a rule breaker. He didn't teach his daughter those same qualities though, he thought her to follow the rules and listen to her peers, as long as they were in the right and weren't pressuring her into doing anything. The only thing the fourteen year old did that violated the rules was wearing accessories with her uniform. No one ever got on her about it though so she didn't get in trouble at all. She was a pretty good student and liked to be on the teacher's good side. Ever since she had met her mother, Wynter had changed just a bit. She relied on the letters her mother sent her and lately she hadn't been getting very many. She blamed it on how busy her shop was, but Wynter thought it was somehow her fault.

The letters from her secret admirer had stopped coming and she didn't know what to make of it. She was upset, she felt like she wasn't good enough and that she had scared the guy off or something. Maybe they had moved onto someone else because they were better. And things with Raj were rocky. Once school had begun again, it was confirmed that the girl he had spent so much time with was in fact who he was engaged with. She wondered what had changed his mind, he said he never wanted to be like his parents and marry out of riches. It made no sense to her and she decided to stay away from it. It was none of her business anyways and if Raj was going to suddenly ignore her than that was his problem and not hers. She decided that there were other people for her and that she wouldn't focus on one guy. A guy that was engaged to someone else.

But when Raj stopped her earlier in the day and asked her to meet him after curfew, Wynter was hesitant to accept. He promised her that she wouldn't get in trouble and that they wouldn't get caught. She wondered why he wanted to see her and why it had to wait until everyone was asleep. She agreed but was still nervous to sneak out. She put a bit of the lipstick that she had swiped from Serah on and a dash of her roommates perfume before leaving her dorm and meeting Raj in the spot she had asked her to. "What are we doing here, Raj?" She was a bit annoyed but there was a rush to being out here without anyone knowing.

When Raj had hurt Wynter he knew that he had to stop sending those letters. He wanted to send an apology letter but he knew that it was probably best to just stop. He had hurt her and there was no turning back from that, he couldn't forgive himself so he couldn't see why she would ever forgive him. He felt like such an asshole, he should have known better. It was eating at him but he couldn't tell her what he had done, he just couldn't. Instead, he avoided her and decided that she deserved better than him.

He spent more time with his friends and decided to take his parents up on the idea of an arranged marriage. It was better this way, he supposed. That way he couldn't hurt anyone anymore and that he wouldn't hurt himself. It hurt him to see Wynter upset and he wished he could take it back. Why had he been so stupid? Why did he have to mess everything up? He was so stupid, so fucking stupid. He wanted to make things right, but he wasn't sure how. Did he admit everything so she could tell him she hated him? Or did he keep everything to himself and never talk about it? If he continued like this, the guilt was going to eat him alive.

So, he told her to meet him after everyone was asleep. He had to fess up and admit everything. And if she hated him, then she did. And he wouldn't and couldn't blame her if she did. He waited for her to show, he was a nervous mess. He knew that he was going to ruin everything but she needed to hear this from him. And it needed to be sooner than later. He didn't want her finding out from somewhere else. "Hey," he said softly when she arrived, She smelled like vanilla and looked impatient with him.

A million emotions seemed to rush to him all at once. Without thinking, he grabbed her hand and placed his lips again hers. It felt right. But also wrong.

Madi put her hand over her mouth so she wouldn't audibly gasp. She couldn't believe what she had heard and seen.

For one, Rajan's greeting sounded so soft and sincere and not at all his arrogant remarks and snide comments. He sounded like he actually cared about the girl he was meeting, which was a foreign concept because Madi was sure he didn't care about anyone but himself.

And a kiss was totally unexpected. He looked slightly unsure of himself, but he didn't hesitate. It made him seem like a character straight out of the romance novels she had read all summer.

She felt like she was intruding on a private moment, but she was intrigued. She'd wait until the girl left, than apologize to Rajan for being late. That way, she looked bad, but not as bad as an eavesdropper.

Instead of answering her question, he placed his lips on hers. The million thoughts that had been rushing through her head were suddenly silenced all at once. Her mind went blank as she kissed the boy back, placing a hand on his cheek. She couldn't think properly at the moment, she finally was kissing Rajan. The boy had a crush on since they had met, the boy that made her mind wander. The boy that confused her and made her so unsure of everything. She pulled away suddenly and stared at him in shock. "You're engaged," she said before taking a step back from him. She wanted to kiss him again, but she knew it was wrong.

She placed her hands on her head and stared at him in confusion. This was all to much to the fourth year and she couldn't think straight. She had wanted this, but not in this way. Not while he was engaged to different girl, to a girl that didn't deserve to get cheated on. She was feeling a million different things but anger was stronger than the rest. "You ignore me and then you suddenly kiss me!" she whispered angrily, careful not to wake anyone. "You get engaged after telling me that you would never be apart of an arranged marriage." She gave him a small shove, it didn't do anything to the tall boy though. "You messed with my feelings and now you're suddenly kissing me. You're not a single guy anymore, you have someone. You can't just kiss me! You're not allowed to do that."

She turned away from him to catch her breath and to calm herself. She quickly wiped a tear from her cheek that had escaped. "What are you doing, Rajan?" She made sure to use his full name instead of his nickname like she usually did.

At first Wynter was kissing him back and it surprised him, he thought she was going to shove him away. But the kiss didn't last long and she was quick to tell him off. He stood there and took it, there was nothing her could say. She was right, he knew she was. As much as he wanted things to be right with them, they weren't. And it was going to be even worse once he admitted that he was the one that sent her those letters and that he was the one that stood her up only to come in and comfort her. Why had he done this? Any of it? If only he would have kept his big fat mouth shut. He wouldn't be hurting the only girl he actually cared about.

He deserved all of it. The words. The shove. Even though her shove did nothing to him, he barely moved. "I'm sorry," he whispered once she was done speaking her mind. He hadn't meant for any of this to happen. He hadn't meant to kiss her, but once he had seen her standing there he just couldn't help himself. "I had to talk to you."

He took in a deep breath and stuffed his hands into his pockets. "I know kissing isn't talking and I shouldn't have done that." He felt guilty. He shouldn't have done that. He was engaged after all, even though he didn't love the girl. "I just..." He paused to look for the right words. This was difficult for him. "I just thought it would be easier, to get engaged. I've fucked up so much." He was torn. He just wanted to make things right. "I wrote those letters and when I asked to meet you, I chickened out. And I saw how much I hurt you and I didn't want to hurt you anymore. So I thought that it would be better to just...to just-" A wave of emotion went through his body as he bit his bottom lip. He wasn't going to cry, he didn't cry. But he was visibly torn up about the whole thing. "-marry someone I didn't love. I thought it would be better to keep my distance because I had already messed up so much."

Madi bit her hand. Rajan? Sorry? Could those words actually come out of his mouth in a sincere manner? And him hesitating and being unsure of what to say? And the kicker: admitting he was wrong? It was unbelievable to Madi. She had no idea what to think.

The concept of forbidden love was one Madi felt like she knew about. It was such a common trope in novels. She'd never believed it was real life. Who would have guessed Rajan was like this? What was next? Love letters?

Wynter's mouth went wide as Raj explained himself. She was in complete and utter shock, she didn't know how to feel about any of it. How did one react to realizing that they had basically been fucked over? That the guy that she liked had messed with her feelings? That he had left her? And then got engaged to a different girl! What made her feel even more crappy was that he had acted like it wasn't him the entire time. He had comforted her after she had been stood up and acted like it hadn't been him. She was boiling. She was livid.

"I can't believe you! You acted like it wasn't you the entire time!" She wanted to punch him, to make him hurt like she was. "You wrote all of those letters and then ask me to meet you and then chicken out and then comfort me like it hadn't been you the whole time! I'm disgusted! You messed with my feelings!" She didn't care if she was being loud that this point, she was angry.

As her anger began to boil, tears ran down her face. "I can't believe you," it came out in barely a whisper. "I never want to see you again." She slapped his cheek with the back of her hand and ran off, she hadn't noticed the eavesdropping student who had been listening in on their conversation. She was too busy crying to notice.

He expected this of her, for her to freak out and completely hate him. He knew it was coming and yet, it hurt like hell when it came. He didn't expect it to hurt this much, it felt like he got punched in the stomach by her words. It felt sick. Like he was going to throw up. He felt so bad and seeing her like this made him feel worse about himself. He was such a fuck up, no wonder no one liked him. He was such an asshole. And he had hurt her. He wished he could take it back, all of it. He wished he hadn't met her, she was better off that way anyways.

The slap on the cheek didn't hurt nearly as much as her words. He deserved it, he knew he did. He deserved all of it and she deserved better. He wished he hadn't fucked up. She said she never wanted to see him again and that was enough for him to let tears fall from his eyes. He had fucked up so much and now everything was ruined. He held his cheek as it began to sting from the slap, letting his tears roll down his face and onto the floor.

Madi jumped slightly at the sound of the slap and then again at the sight of the girl running by her. She didn't notice Madi, so she was in the clear, but she didn't know what to do next. Should she sneak back to the post to meet him? Should she pretend to be angry that he was late? Should she just go comfort him?

She peeked around the corner and saw that he was still standing there, his hand holding his face where he had been slapped. He looked like maybe he was crying.

Madi stepped out from behind the pillar as quietly as possible. "I came out to see what the yelling was. Are you okay, Rajan?" she asked, hoping that was believable enough. Surely it was. Prefects had to investigate any and all suspicious activity while they were on patrol.
