Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière Empty Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière

Post by Professor Bowen Sat Mar 12, 2016 7:34 pm

The previous two matches had gone smoothly without a hitch.  Today was different.  The last match and things had changed.  It was a lovely sunny day and the birds flying over the Quidditch Pitch agreed.  However, an invasion by a variety of feathered creatures could not cancel a game.  Professor Bowen looked over the two assembled teams.  They had played well all year but none of them had played in conditions like this.

"We are not alone but the game must go on.  No hurting any birds and avoid being hit by one.  Captains shake hands."  She blew the whistle and was soon in the air ready to referee the game.

The announcer for this game will be Andrea Ritter and an NPC. This game will last for the remainder of the term.

Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière Empty Re: Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière

Anthony had woken up that morning feeling quite confident in his quidditch team. His team had won the first round, but not the second. And he liked that. It meant that the Cup was anyone's at this point, and that was the way he liked it. Everyone was going to play at one hundred percent and be on their toes.

At least that's how he felt until he got onto the pitch. There were birds everywhere. He could see, but hardly. He silently cursed Bowen for not cancelling when she saw this mess, but he supposed it was just more challenging. Maybe Lumiere could cinch this win. None of his Chasers were as new as the opposing team, but that didn't mean they wouldn't do well when they were being bombarded by low flying birds.

Anthony ignored the feeling of nervousness in his stomach and mounted his broom, taking off at the whistle's blow. He manged to catch the quaffle first, but the birds made it hard for him to make a clear pass. He tried his best and managed to hand it off to another chaser. He dodged birds to get in position to catch it again, but as soon as they passed it, it hit a bird, and Eclairage intercepted the quaffle. They took it back to their goal posts and scored.

Sure, it was off to a bad start, but there was hope. They'd shape up.

Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière Empty Re: Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière

"There are birds on the pitch," Andrea warned through the microphone. "Beware the birds. Seriously though have any of you muggleborns ever heard of a movie called The Birds? I'm pretty sure it was a horror movie. Warn your pureblood friends of the dangers of birds on the pitch." Actually Andrea had no idea if any of her information was correct. She was making it up as she went along. She was pretty certain though there was a movie out there somewhere with that title. Whether or not it was horror was another matter.

"Professor Bowen has begun the game and now watch carefully as the seekers have to make sure they catch a snitch and not a bird." She stared at the birds flying through the air and added, "at least there are no snidgets out there. That would have made it really complicated." She paused to let her fellow announcer get a word in edgewise. It was only manners.

Andrea winced "Ouch. One of the Lumière has hit a bird with the quaffle which is picked up by an Éclairage chaser. By the way did I happen to mention that two of their chasers are annoyingly related? Puchard and Puchard. Are you two twins? By the way the bird is fine and unfortunately, I mean Éclairage has scored the first goal of the match. Lumière you'd better pick up your game and stop hitting the birds if you wish to win this one."

Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière Empty Re: Term 25 Round III: Éclairage vs. Lumière

Post by Minnie Puchard Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:47 am

After her team winning the last match Minnie was eager for more victories. She loved to be a part of a team but to be the part of a winning team was even better. The only downside was the birds. "Hey Madi," she whispered to her cousin, "have you ever seen so many birds together in one place?" She looked at the invasion compared to where the hoops were and another thought occurred to her. "Captain do we get time out if our goggles get covered in bird poop?" she asked.

She was soon on her broom and up in the air ready to swoop in and catch the quaffle any chance she got. Lumiere got in first but Minnie bibed her time and was quick to catch hold of the quaffle the moment the other team's captain hit the bird. She flew off before passing off the quaffle to one of her teammates and grinned not long after when the ding signaled the first goal of the match. "Hey captain you might not be needed this match," she called out cheekily. The question thrown her way from the announcer drew Minnie's attention away from the game. Twins? Well now that was an interesting idea.

She narrowly dodged a large brown bird and flew off after the quaffle again without answering the announcer's question. Madi could answer if she so wished. Minnie needed to impress everyone on her chasing abilities.

This wasn't Madi's first game, but it was her first final match. She was overwhelmed by the amount of people in the stands. A sea of purple and silver and pink and gold. Cheering as the players walked onto the field. It was very exciting to the eleven-year-old. She almost didn't notice the thousands of birds that were flying in the pitch. That is, until her cousin pointed them out. "Oh! No, never!" she answered with a tiny laugh. "I hope they don't get too hurt." A bludger could possibly kill a bird.

The game started with Lumiere catching the quaffle. They almost scored, but their chaser manageed to hit a bird and send it spiraling. Minnie caught it and threw it to another chaser, who threw it to her. Madi took it, nearly hitting three birds, and scored. She was so proud of herself. She did a little cheer for herself and then flew off to help more.

Eclairage scored one more time before Lumiere even got one point. Madi was really happy that this game was going well. Before she knew it, she had the quaffle again and handed it off. And they scored, yet again. "Haha! Lightning strikes again! Catch up, silly team!" she taunted.

Circling overhead, Hanna did her best to avoid being seen, being fully aware of the other team's seeker tailing her. After the first ten minutes, she decided to test how closely he was going to follow her. She entered into a steep dive toward the Lumière posts flying just above a large group of birds, bearing in mind the possibility of the other seeker hitting the flock. He had followed her down without seeing anything, and she was dead set on repeating that process until he either stopped following her or hit something. She didn't feel bad about this strategy, seeing how he could peel off at any time. She had caught sight of the snitch a few times during her evasions, and turned away from them to prevent her opponent seeing it. The time to strike would be later.

She also noticed that he was slightly faster in a dive, but much less maneuverable, this might be useful information later, if she could a steep dive while racing for the snitch later, that would be useful.

Anthony had to admit, Eclairage's chasers were good. He wished he could blame them for his team not doing well, but he couldn't. He would just have to shape up and hope for the birds to calm down. And for his seeker to catch the damn snitch.

Eclairage scored another ten points before he so much as even touched the quaffle again. But when he did, he stuck the hand holding the quaffle out in front of him as he flew, and that kept the birds out of his face a bit more. Instead of handing it off and risking hitting another bird, he took the quaffle to the box himself, throwing it into the leftmost hoop. It made a clean arc through and he felt a lot better about the way the game was going when he heard the ding and accompanying cheers of ten points to Lumiere.

Andrea's frustrated sigh sounded into the microphone. "Sorry Professor," she quickly burst out before continuing on with the announcing. "Éclairage is pulling ahead of Lumière with 30 points to their 10. This match must be for the birds." Watching this match Andrea decided if ever she was allowed to get a pet a bird was not one of them. Owls were nightmarish birds anyway.

"Each team has scored a goal apiece. Éclairage is double the score of Lumière. Come along now. We need to see more than feathers going on here. Also could a seeker please catch the snitch. I think I'm allergic to feathers and need a good lie down." She fake sneezed to prove her point. In her mind though she was certain she was going to sneeze for real if neither seeker ended it soon.

Minnie was of two minds about this match. On the one hand she was part of a most wonderfully perfect chaser team. On the other there were the birds. She wrinkled her nose when she noticed the splash of whiteness on the sleeve of her purple quidditch robes. "Yuck. Bird poop." It was disgusting but she had to finish this match no matter how much she might get covered in the stuff.

"Scored," she called out in triumph as she managed to intercept the quaffle and then throw it through the middle goal hoop. They were on fire and getting way past Lumiere. She dodged a small bird and shooed away another after it landed on her broom and nearly sent her flying into the path of a bludger. "I know what we need," she called out before catching the quaffle and passing it to one of the other Éclairage: chasers. "We need floating scarecrows."
