Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts Empty Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts

Post by Professor Bowen Mon Feb 29, 2016 4:35 pm

It was that time of year again, the beginning of a new year at Beauxbatons meaning it was once again time for quidditch tryouts. This was one of the professor's favorite times to be the flying instructor, however it could also be very stressful to choose students for the teams. However she was always able to decide in the end and she just loved the happy looks on the students faces when they flew around the pitch and you could always see that moment when each one of them finally got some confidence in their tryout performance.

Professor Bowen walked out onto the quidditch pitch to see a group of excited students standing in the center, some scared looking and others confident. She stood in the middle and quickly got everyones attention, "Alright everyone welcome to this year's Quidditch Tryouts." She said loud enough for everyone to hear her. "You will be notified when the tryout results are in." She told them all slowly to be sure they all understood. "Alright so with that let's get started and yes, you may tryout for more than one position." She finished before starting the tryouts.

OOC:
-To tryout post only once for each position you wish to tryout for.
-You are to post strictly in character and write a one shot of your character going through their turn.
-Please pay attention to order when posting, for instance if you are trying out for seeker make sure to note that they had to wait till the end to take their turn.
-Be sure to give enough detail in the post to help the Ministers make an accurate decision about who to pick.
-Look at the Quidditch Team sticky to see what positions are open. There is only one Seeker and one Keeper. If those positions are filled on your team, you cannot tryout for that position.
-Games will not be played out until further notice, but information about the season's winners will be sent via PM to you from your captain or a minister.
-NOTE: If you have played quidditch as any character on board currently, you do NOT need to try out again unless you want to. Simply message Minister Viridian what position your character wants and the name of the character who played. If the character you had previously had on the team has been deleted, you will need to try out again, as we cannot simply search for the old tryout post.
-Message the Ministers or your house's captain with any questions.

Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts

Hanna got to go first AND last. She shouldered her heavier 1987 Thunderbolt V, which her mother had finally caved and gave her from her national team days, and boy could it move. She was trying out for a chaser first, more because her mother's position was at left chaser. She was better suited to play at seeker, due to her near flawless eyesight and ability to not draw too much attention to herself as she drifted above the field, watching for the snitch.

The tryout went okay, though she almost wished it hadn't. She used her broom's superior maneuverability to thread past opponent beaters before tossing it to a teammate to line up the shot. Then she swooped down to catch the ball as it ricocheted off of the rim of the hoop, and she passed it  up to another teammate, continuing on this train of passiveness until she had no choice but to shoot. It bounced off of the lower end of the hoop, but still went in. Her teammates followed up one after another, as if some invisible seal had been broken. She continued until the end despite the fact that she would rather be practicing for seeker, which she would need the practice for. There would be time enough for that during the beater tryouts.

The Seeker tryout went better than she could've hoped for, with her drifting above the west side of the pitch for about ten minutes before catching sight of the snitch, but, rather than doing what most of the seekers-to-be would've done, which is to powerdive towards, and engage in a hopeless battle to maintain sight of it through the wind drawing tears to their eyes, she waited. She looped slowly down as if to join the non-existent chasers in their game, and as she got closer to the snitch, she opened up the speed towards it, closing the short distance in a split second. She felt the golden ball slam into the palm of her hand and bounce upwards, forcing her to use two hands to keep it from escaping for a few seconds before palming it and returning to professor Bowen with what she hoped to hell was the best time she had seen.

Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts

Flying lessons, teaching herself to balance on a broom whilst holding a quaffle, and grabbing others on the quidditch pitch to help her with throwing and catching the quaffle in the air were what brought Minnie to this try-out with confidence. She loved Quidditch and had read as much as she could get her hands on when she was a child. That hadn't been hard when her mother had bookcases full of so many books on a variety of subjects. Most were old but the game hadn't changed in centuries. Her despised father's former Quidditch career hadn't even put her off. Why hate something he loved just because he was an awful human being? The only thing she hadn't had the opportunity to do in the first ten years of her life was play the game.

"Not hard at all," she reassured herself as she watched the other chaser hopefuls try out. She was going to ace this try-out. She was sure she would. Her grip on the broom tightened as her turn came closer. Minnie was now finding it difficult to keep a hold on the confidence she had at the beginning. There had been some very good chasers out there. Probably a few who'd had experience too. Well that may be so but Minnie reminded herself that she had talent. Plenty of it.

Finally her turn had arrived and she pushed herself up in the air. This was some kind of wonderful and her third-hand broom was now almost a dream to fly. Minnie knew what was to come. She was ready and caught the first quaffle to come her way. Threw it back. Caught it again. Flew in and moved down to the other end of the hoops before successfully throwing it through the hoop. Minnie missed the next quaffle which was thrown her way and she snarled at the mess up. She was not going to let one little error get in her way. Minnie watched carefully and caught the next one. The quaffle was passed between her and the others up in the air then she scored again. Soon enough her tryout was at an end.

Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts Empty Re: Term 25 Quidditch Tryouts

Madi didn't really know what she was doing that day. She had studied quidditch enough, but she still felt nervous. What if she didn't make the team? That would be awful, she thought, but if her team needed people on the team, she had a chance.

Madi didn't mean to copy her cousin, but she wanted to be a chaser, too. It seemed simple enough. And it also seemed like the most active spot. The eleven-year-old lost her focus very easily if she had too much downtime. And the whole game wasn't lost if she wasn't very good at her position, which made her feel like she had a chance.

When it was Madi's turn, she mounted her broom and took off. She was a little shaky at first, but once she got her balance, she felt a little more confident. She caught and and successfully passed the first few quaffles that were thrown at her, but when it came time to try and score, she missed twice. It's over she thought. But they threw her the quaffle again.

She took a deep breath to calm herself. Surely she was doing poorly just because she was nervous. She tried to keep her hands from shaking (unsuccefully), got a good grip on the quaffle, focused on the goal, then threw the best she could. It was still a clumsy throw, but she had scored. Maybe she'd be able to do this after all.
