The End As It Begins Empty The End As It Begins

Springtime at Beauxbatons was always strange. It always seemed that one day, there was snow, and the very next it was warm and sunny. And this year was no exception. Isobel would be lying if she said she wasn't expecting the weather to mold to her expectations of normal just because she was a seventh year. She just didn't want to be bored.

But she supposed there was good in the weather. That meant she wasn't trapped in the castle. And the quidditch game, while her team hadn't won the cup, had really beautiful flying conditions. She tried her hardest to see it as going out on a positive note, but it was hard. She just had a lot of uneasiness about being an adult.

Or maybe it was about leaving Aidan behind. She knew she wouldn't be far from him, but she'd still be farther than a few floors in a building or across town. She was trying to make up for that by spending a lot of time with him, doing things that he liked specifically. It didn't always make her happy, but it made him happy. And she knew she'd never be a student with him ever again. She'd be on the grounds again for his graduation, according to her cloudy foresight into her own future. So she had to make the most of it.

They walked out to the lake together after dinner. She had a lot on her mind, but didn't know how to approach any of it. She knew there needed to be some talk of their future as a couple, but to bring it up and be sensitive was not Isobel's area of expertise. She was thankful that Aidan didn't push her to be more emotional

She walked out onto the dock. "How do you feel?" she asked, not sure if that was the right question to ask for the conversation. But it was a start.

The End As It Begins Empty Re: The End As It Begins

Today had been exceptionally boring. It was the Quidditch finals, and Aidan had forced himself to go. One of the worse ideas he had had this year. So far. And so he sat there watching, for quite a while actually, before he got way too bored and started studying his Herbology. There was a giant test coming up, and he was not prepared. Also, being constantly terrified while you have to take leaves of a plant which could swallow and digest cows in twenty seconds didn't help. So, yeah. He was going to study for that. Which wasn't really that exciting either. He had cheered along with the crowd, but he didn't have the faintest idea what happened.

After dinner, Isobel asked him if they could talk. A little uneasy and accompanied by some shouting ("Valentine's was last month, you two!"), Aidan followed her. He glared at some of his friends who were whistling, and then they went out the front door. When they reached the lake, Aidan noticed that it was probably the finale of their trip. He sat down with his back against the willow tree.

"If I would be totally honest, I would like to just jump in the lake right now." He saw in the look on her face. "What?! No, not like that, it's just, well, it's been three months since I could go for a dive! Ever since it froze over, I've been counting the days. But, well, by the look in your eyes, I can see you've got a lot on your mind, so I suggest you set the theme."

The End As It Begins Empty Re: The End As It Begins

Isobel smiled a little. "We can go swimming at some point," she said. "But yeah. We have to talk about the future. At least a little. I foresee a lot of hurt feelings if we don't."

Isobel felt bad when she talked too much about the future. After reading Kayla Miller's letter, she felt as if she had a hand in their break-up. And Isobel really didn't want to take away someone's ability to live in the moment. Everyone deserved to have a life uninterrupted. So she tried to only talk about it when she was specifically asked about it. Just because she couldn't always live in the moment, didn't mean other people couldn't.

She walked off the dock to go sit next to him. It would probably make things a little easier if they were closer. She smoothed her skirt before sitting on the ground with him. "I guess I'm wondering if you wanted to break up over your seventh year, or if you wanted to stay together and do the kind-of-distant-relationship thing," she said, looking down. "I want to stay together and make things work somehow, but you have a say, too."

The End As It Begins Empty Re: The End As It Begins

"Really? You can see possible outcomes of the future? So it's not yet set in stone, then?" Aidan probably should know this, but since he was having extra combo classes, he couldn't always go to Divination. It was intriguing to him, how Isobel could talk about the future, sometimes as hard as ice, sometimes as flowing as water, but always passionate.

"I know. I've been thinking a lot about it, too. It's just that I'm worried. I mean, you'll be gone for an entire year, maybe even more! And then what? I've just seen too much people who have tried and failed. I just don't want us to fail." He was beating around the bush, and he knew, but he just didn't know. But being passive had never been an option for him, and it wasn't going to be one now. He looked into her dark brown eyes, and spoke up. "But, and I know this will sound terribly cliché, and I know I'm probably just giving myself false hope, you are worth more to me than all that. I want to try it with you, and if it doesn't work, it simply doesn't. But you can bet your heart, soul and whatever being that creates this wicked fate you are so obsessed by on it that I will try everything I can to make us work. And keep us working."

The End As It Begins Empty Re: The End As It Begins

Isobel shrugged. "Sometimes. I mostly get a big picture prophesy. I see the end result first, rather than the details to get there. Professor Lemiux thinks that they may be a personality characteristic, rather than a Divination error. The future of a person is never set in stone because human emotions are so complex," she said, struggling to explain the way her foresight worked. She hoped that made some sense.

"Actually, two years. But my second year will be more flexible. I'll have a lot of time off. And then you'll be out of school and that will make things easier, too," she corrected, poking his knee. "You can always live in Cheval with Greg, Apollo and me. We'd love to have you. Well, I'd love to and I'm really bad at caring what other people think," she said, winking. Apollo wouldn't care. And Kayla had approved of Aidan, so it's not like Greg could have a great argument against him. Isobel wouldn't mind moving out if they had legitimate concerns or if Aidan was opposed to it.

The seventeen-year-old smiled. "Okay. We'll make things work," she agreed, She kissed his lips once, very quickly. "You don't sound cliché, Aidan. I know you mean what you say and I admire and appreciate that. I'd be bored if you always did as I expected."
