A Keeper Empty A Keeper

Post by Gregory Bell Tue Sep 08, 2015 6:18 pm

Greg was a little bit annoyed. Professor Bowen asked the boys on the Feu quidditch team to clean their locker room, but Greg had somehow ended up doing it on his own. He knew his team was upset about his relationship with Kayla, but it didn't make them any less of a team. His logic was that life is simply too short to not date the person you wanted to be with. And other people weren't allowed to say anything to him about his relationship unless they were in it. And as much as the boys on his team wanted to be in it, they weren't. And nothing could change that.

He was planning on leaving as soon as he was done, but Greg spotted a girl on the pitch. He vaguely recognized her as a first year in his house, but he hadn't ever spoken to her before. "Uh... hi," he said, trying not to sound awkward. Although, sounding awkward was kind of his thing. "Can I help you with something?"

A Keeper Empty Re: A Keeper

Ursula wasn't really sure how to approach him. She heard he was very shy, and some rumors about him and a girl, but that didn't really matter, did it? At least, not for her. She just needed him to be a good captain. She saw him leaving the Feu changeing room. She ran towards him. Confident? Yeah, that would probably be best...

"Hey. I'm Ursula Clara Valdez Caballero, and I just got told by professor Bowen that I'm going to be the Feu Keeper, and then I saw you, so I just thought that maybe we should... talk?" What was she saying? That just sounded wrong... "Never mind that, you are..." She looked at the fading writing on her arm. "Gragory Ball, right? Captain of the Feu Quidditch team?"

Then Greg remembered where he actually met the girl. "Oh yeah! Hi, Ursula! I remember you from tryouts. It's nice to finally meet you," he greeted. "We're all really excited for you to play."

Gregory couldn't lie. He was really impressed by this girl. He had been really nervous when it came to who would replace Lucie, and he was glad that they had some genuine talent coming into their lives. "Yeah. I'm Greg Bell. Did you have questions about the team or something?"

Ursula was caught a little off-guard. He seemed really nice, contrary to what she heard before... And they were somehow happy to have her! She smiled a little as she heard that.

"Uhm, yeah, to be honest. Fact is, I still don't know a lot about Quidditch and our matches. So as I understand it, we're facing the other houses, right? I'm assuming that we will have training too, so when will that be? Do a lot of people get injured while playing? I saw some guy at the try-outs take a bad fall..."

Greg listened carefully. "Uh, yeah. We play the other houses. We do at least one proper game and if we win that, we go to the finals and play the house that won their first game, too," he answered, hoping that he was making sense. "We have a practice schedule. Professor Bowen will release it to us at dinner. But I'll remind you of practices, too."

He honestly had no idea how he was supposed to answer this question without scaring her off. Young girls probably would be scared by getting pain.

"Yes and no," he answered cautiously. "The players more central to the action get injured sometimes. Pain for Keepers is usually minimal. If you are injured, it is more likely a fault of your own rather than a bludger hitting you. And the pain is over quickly. The Healer stands by at the games as a precaution."

His answers were mildly worrying. "Minimal pain", "others will have more", "it doesn't last that long" ... However, they were still better than what some of her classmates told her. "You do know about that Keeper who lost his left hand during a match?" "Ursula, you're Keeper now, right? You know, you're really brave. I mean, of course you would know about the Keeper who got both his legs torn off during a match..." She was actually starting to be genuinely scared of Qudditch. But she never got injured in the slightest during practice, so maybe that was good? She hoped it would just stay like that...

"Right. Sounds like great fun." She wondered if he ever got hit by a Bludger. "Anyway, I heard that we have to play the opening match? How bad is it looking?"

Gregory felt like he hadn't really convinced the girl of Quidditch's safety, but he'd prove it to her during practice.

Greg fought the urge to laugh. "Yeah. We play the opening match agaisnt Cerisier. In the history of Beauxbatons, Feu has only lost to Cerisier once. We should be fine."

He felt bad almost immediately. It was the truth, but it was still really mean. His cousin just wasn't dealt a good hand, so to speak.

Ursula wasn't really relieved, but she was glad to hear that the opening match wouldn't be too too hard. "Right." She did an "OK" sign. "Let's hope we don't get knocked off our brooms!" She smiled. "Alright, well, I'll be off now. Have a good day and best of luck with that girl!" She was saying that more to see what his reaction would be than anything else. Still smiling, she headed off towards the palace.

Greg smiled sheepishly. He could hardly promise that. But yeah, they could hope. There was always hope. "Okay. See ya later, Ursula!" Greg did a double-take at the first year's statement. He didn't realize that even the first years were talking about his relationship with Kayla. "Oh... uh, thanks," he said awkwardly. He didn't want to be rude to his new keeper.
