It didn't matter that this was a new place and Soren was likely to get lost. There was no way he was letting his mother tag along for the shopping trip. It was bad enough he had to go and get fitted for his new uniform and buy other new books because his old supplies wasn't acceptable at his new school. But he was seventeen for Merlin's sake and was not about to let his mother hold his hand like some sort of helpless sod. He carried this determination as he entered the pub only to immediately realize he had no idea where he was going.

Ordering a pumpkin juice, the teenager took a seat at one of the tables and discreetly pulled out a map. He didn't want to appear as new as he was but still had no idea where he had to go to get fitted for a uniform. Looking up from the map, he met a pair of eyes of another person. "Take a picture, it lasts longer," Soren said, brushing his long hair from his eyes as he confronted the person staring at him. He wasn't here to make friends, he was here to get his shopping done and get gone.

Carlie was mostly wandering around. She supposed transferring last year was a good thing. All of her robes fit still. All of her school supplies, minus the books and her shoes, were still usable. She barely had anything to buy and she wasn't meeting up with her friends until later.

So walking into La Petit Dragon was mostly just for lack of better things to do. The fourth year knew that it would be crowded and noisy, but maybe she'd run into someone. Like Andrea or Sophie. But she stopped short as she looked around.

Carlie had caught the sight of an older boy. Someone who looked very interesting to her. But before she could look away, he caught her staring. It was too late to not react, so she might as well introduce herself.

She walked up to the boy's table. "Wow. Rude," she replied, smiling. "I'm Carlie. Who are you?"

Soren rose his brow at the girl's comment and gave her a challenging smirk. "Didn't mummy teach you it was rude to stare at people?" He replied, not to be outdone. He eyed the girl up and down. She looked a little bit younger than him but still a female nonetheless. "Soren," He replied, continuing to smirk. "What brings you here to this hellhole today?" He asked, not caring to mask his displeasure with being there.

"She might have," Carlie answered, shrugging, but still smiling. "Nice to meet you! I'm here in this hellhole out of obligation. And the need to get away from my authoritarian parental figures. Are you a transfer student or did I overlook you last school year?" she asked, mostly knowing the answer.

She figured that anyone who thought Beauxbatons was a hellhole hadn't ever been there before. Unless he was being forced to go, which was always possible. If Carlie's parents had forced her to go, she'd do her best to not like it, too.

Soren scoffed at her answer. She was a bit tough, but he respected that. "You too? When will mothers learn that they can't mother us forever?" Soren retorted. His mother was nice and all, but she had a tendency to get on his nerves. Especially this past summer when she spent an ample amount of time making sure he felt guilty for being expelled as well as trying to get him to quit smoking. "Trust me, you'd remember me," He said, giving her a wink. "Transfer. Originally from Durmstrang," Soren finally gave her the answer she sought. "What about you? Doesn't sound like you've been attending Beauxbatons since first year either."

Carlie shrugged."I have no clue. Hopefully soon, though. It's mostly my dad who bothers me. I don't really care, but it's very annoying." Carlie was fifteen years old now. She watched Max get all the freedom in the world and she was jealous. She couldn't help it and she didn't really feel bad about it.

Carlie giggled at Soren's wink. "No. I transferred last school year. I went to this school in the United States, but it was preppy and stuck-up and I didn't like that. There weren't many interesting people, and I can't say that about Beauxbatons. If I have to go to school, I'm glad it's here," she explained. "So what's Scandinavia like? I've never been anywhere but France and Texas."

Soren brushed some hair from his eyes. "I wouldn't know about fathers but I guess my mum makes up for both parents with the amount of nagging she does," Soren replied. He supposed she did have to do the job of two, though sometimes he wished she'd chill and just let him make his own mistakes.

Soren's brow raised as the girl relayed where she originated. "You certainly are far from home, aren't you?" Soren commented. And here he thought it was a stretch from Germany to France. "I'll be the judge of that," he commented with a small smirk. "Though I s'pose you're not too bad." He added. "It's cold." Soren answered plainly. "Though you get used to it. The scenery is pretty bland, but who cares about that? The school wasn't too lame. I mean there were plenty of hiding spots to cause trouble in." Soren explained and trouble he did cause. By his sixth year, Soren had a mental map of every perfect spot to hide safely so he could smoke or make out with someone. However, in the end, he was eventually caught.

Carlie laughed. "I think that's a mom skill. Nagging. I kind of respect my mom's ability to make me feel bad enough to do something. It doesn't always work, but I appreciate the effort. Does your mom do the whole, "I'm so very disappointed in you," and you can't help but feel a tad disappointed in yourself, too? Even if all you did was stay up a little too late or something?"

"Sure. I'd say that you were crazy if you just took my word for it," she agreed. "I considered myself a freedom fighter there. I tried my hardest to never conform."

"Sounds like Texas. It's miles and miles of nothing but dry fields. Except it's always hot."

"I'm sure there are a ton of hiding places at Beauxbatons. I didn't really explore much. Announcing quidditch got in the way of that. And my best friend latched onto some girl, so I didn't have much company. And just a tip, make friends with a Prefect. There's a girl who will tear up any detentions issued to people she likes," Carlie said.

She couldn't help but be a little bitter toward Garnet. Carlie didn't know the girl, and while she was generally against being negative toward people she didn't know, she felt like she knew quite a bit through Max. And she wasn't impressed.
