Future Advice Empty Future Advice

Post by Kayla Miller Sun Jan 18, 2015 1:13 am

With the graduates coming back for the reunion, the professors apparently thought it was a perfect time to dump students assignments seeking them for advice. Kayla was stuck with interviewing someone in a career field she was interested in. It was actually relatively not-horrible. Although she wasn't definite on what she wanted to do, she was interested in Auror. She was dubious about living a job of such high stress. She had to agree with her professors that interviewing would give her a better perspective of whether or not she would want to take that path. And who better to ask than her brother's girlfriend, Marie-Laure?

Walking away from the Quidditch pitch after a satisfying practice, Kayla spotted the woman nearby. She took a moment to straighten her Quidditch robes, she didn't want to look like a slob in front of her. She didn't know what to think of Marie-Laure. She admired her, for the most part. Although she wasn't sure if her view would stay the same if she were to marry Caleb. She shook herself out of those thoughts. That didn't matter. She was supposed to just interview her. She shouldn't have been intimidated by her. Kayla quickly rummaged into her bag to find the set of notes, approaching Marie-Laure. "Hello. I'm Kayla Miller, Caleb's sister." And possible future sister-in-law. She extended her hand, gripping the notes in the other. "If you had time, I was wondering if I could interview you about being an Auror."

Future Advice Empty Re: Future Advice

Stepping back on the grounds of Beauxbatons after being away for six years was a very odd sensation for Marie-Laure. She hadn't imagined she would ever return to the school but someone, Marie-Laure had no idea who, decided that a reunion would be a good idea. The auror decided not to judge one way or another whether she agreed. She was there and then she would go again back into the real world.

Walking around the grounds the witch noted that nothing much had changed. The faces certainly but for the most part nothing had changed. She wasn't sure what the time was or how long she'd been walking around but there was soon enough someone else demanding her attention. She smiled at the younger girl and shook the hand she held out. "Yes. I know. Your brother pointed you out a time or two." She nodded. "I can do that. I have been asked to give a talk later but at least here you won't have to compete with anyone else."

Kayla smiled, she was pleasantly surprised that Caleb pointed her out. She hadn't spent time with him lately, which was something she mentally added to her agenda. "Thank you." She flipped to the questions, glancing at the first one. "How much job satisfaction do you get? Do you believe you are successful at your job?" she asked. Kayla wanted a job she was happy with, and even though it sounded interesting at the moment, she knew the reality and stress could prove otherwise.

She paused. She also wanted to ask Marie-Laure if she thought the job would be suitable for her. But she barely knew her. Kayla had to be the judge of that herself. "Also, good luck in your Reunion Quidditch game. Beat Captain Green," she smirked in distaste. From what she had observed Ryan was just as arrogant as his younger sister.

The first question Kayla had to ask took Marie-Laure by surprise. It was something no-one had ever asked her before. "Well I get a lot of job satisfaction every time a dark wizard is taken off the streets." She refrained from mentioning the frustration about the feelings of frustration amongst the aurors that for every one arrested two more pop up. "I believe I am." Of course it helped that her endeavours at the magical skill of legilimency did help in case where the suspect was lying. Marie-Laure was very careful though not to let most people know about that special ability she'd acquired.

Marie-Laure smiled and nodded at Kayla. "I'll see what I can do," she promised. "Do you know this captain? There was a Green on my team back when I played for Montagnard. He was a rather pleasant player." The way Kayla spoke though Marie-Laure did have to wonder if perhaps this other Green was of a different type.

Future Advice Empty Re: Future Advice

Kayla scribbled down the answers with her quill, nodding along to her answers. There was a question she wanted to ask, although it wasn't required, that she would have to be less vague to get an answer of. "How stressful is being an Auror?" she inquired, looking up. She knew it was an extremely honorable job with its downfalls. "And, do you find yourself given space to use your own vision to change the world?" It was a rather unorthodox question, she supposed. She liked getting things in order, but she wanted to be able to do it her own way, sometimes.

She shook her head. She remembered Autumn mentioning Ryan Green in distaste, but she didn't know him personally. "I've only heard of him. I have to play against his little sister, Isobel, in the Quidditch finals. She displays a lot of arrogance and rudeness. I heard Ryan isn't much better himself." Another reason to beat her. She raised her eyebrows in slight surprise at Marie-Laure's comment. "Really? Was he related to Ryan?" Not that she should be passing judgment on the Greens, of course. She was merely curious.

"Extremely stressful," Marie-Laure replied honestly. "You're dealing with dangerous wizards and in the process of apprehending them make sure the rest of the public doesn't get hurt and the magic isn't seen by muggles. That of course is after tracking and identifying them in the first place. That part of the investigation is difficult in itself." Marie-Laure had to really think about what it was Kayla was asking in her next question. "No," she said eventually. "The Ministry has protocols you have to follow. There is no room to make your own vision to change the world. What you do in your own time on the other hand is strictly your business." That had never bothered Marie-Laure but she'd always had a very black and white view of the world. Others with more creativity she supposed might find the restrictions rather difficult to cope with.

Marie-Laure took in the way Kayla described Isabel Green and slowly nodded. "Well just because she's like that it doesn't mean her brother is the same. I've got cousins who are opposites in extreme and always fight and argue." Sense like the ones she'd witnessed of her cousins' fights made her thankful she'd been an only child. So much more peaceful that way. "Though I guess if someone who knows him has said something like that of him I might be even more inclined to do what I can to beat him." She shrugged. "Possibly. I mean there aren't many Greens who'd go to a French school are there?" Of course there wouldn't be many Millers by that logic either and yet it sometimes felt like they continued to overrun the school. Including the one sitting right here next to her.

Kayla nodded. She had expected as much. She didn't like stress but once she gathered more information she would determine whether it was worth it or not. It wasn't required, but she wrote down the question and answer in the blank margins of her paper. "My next question is related to that. What struggles and/or failures have you experienced on the job?" She looked up. "That can mean more tangible struggles like training, or ethical struggles," she suggested.

"I understand there are procedures to follow." Kayla didn't mind rules. She borderline loved them as they were there to establish order. She also believed she was fairly creative and wanted room for that in her life. "Is it ever," Kayla paused, searching for the right word, "difficult letting strict rules dictate your decision?"

She let out a slight laugh. "Yes. I don't know if you know my cousins. Fiona and Mabel. They're almost nothing like each other and don't get along very well." Perhaps having nothing alike was an exaggeration, but it was true they weren't the best of sister.
