Neat Freak Empty Neat Freak

Hassan was galled. There was only one table left open and it was in utter disarray. An appalling profusion of crumbs, juice spills, and dirty napkins were littered all over it. He attempted to signal a waiter, but they were all busy and harried with serving the packed pub. A few promised to clean it up "later", but he knew an empty promise when he heard one.

Hassan made his way to the front, food in one hand, as he grabbed a bunch of napkins in the other. He returned to the one table left and did his best to clean it up. As he was wiping off the bread crumbs, he looked up and saw a very pretty girl standing there. The boy nearly fell over. He looked down at the table as he cleaned, concealing his blush. He couldn't think of any scientific explanation for his reaction besides that he was smitten. Goodness gracious. What was he going to say? The realization hit him that they would have to share the table together. Finally he looked up and cleared his throat. "I'm, um, sorry. I cannot stand mess," Hassan confessed.

Stephanie entered Le Petit Dragon, rather hungry. She ate nothing all day, because he mom was working, and she preferred not to cook. Whenever she tried to cook she over thought everything...Were they the correct ingredients? Are they in the right proportion? Should she experiment to make it more delicious?

She tried to avoid this utter confusion and buy something to eat. She wanted to go to the table she used to sit but...her table was a complete mess! She screamed...internally of course. She couldn't stand that mess. But at the same time she was so much afraid and disgusted of germs that she couldn't persuade herself to clean it...Every other table was occupied, so she had no alternative. What kind of monster did that, she thought. She tried to sit at the part of the table where scientifically there would be less bacteria.

The mere picture of that mess made her uneasy...she almost puked..She stood up immediately and decided to go to the bathroom rather quickly. After she returned to her table she saw a young boy cleaning her table...a handsome young boy. She tried to hide her blushing...he seemed so brave...cleaning this mess with so many possible bacteria, fungus and viruses... Then she realized that she had to share her table with him. Oh gosh...she shouldn't say something stupid...

"I understand..." She replied shyly.

Hassan fought his blush as he finally met the girl's gaze. He gave her a little smile as he wiped up the last of the mess and threw it away in the trash. Darn his compulsive organization. Now that he had cleaned up the mess so quickly, he couldn't stall in talking to the girl. At least she hadn't seemed repellent to his cleaning and rather seemed forbearing.

He pulled up a chair for her and wiped off the few stray crumbs on it. "Pleased to make your acquaintance, Miss...?" he questioned. He started to extend a hand to her but quickly put it down. "I would shake hands but I must clean my hands first," he explained. "My name is Hassan Owens."

Stephanie couldn't hold her blush at the sight of that handsome boy. But she tried to fight it...well at least till their eye gazes met...and he smiled. He was so cute, she thought. She crossed her arms trying to seem more serious and not show any more of her feelings.

He even pulled up a chair for her...what a gentleman!

"Stephanie, my name is Stephanie Vargas." She said with a slight smile on her face.

She almost giggled at how adorable he was...

"Nice to meet you Hassan." She said kinda shyly...she wasn't used to like guys that much...She took a deep breath and tried not to embarrass herself.

The girl actually smiled back at him, blushed slightly, and introduced herself. Hassan was off to a good start. That was, as long as his shyness didn't ruin everything.

"Stephanie is a nice name," he said softly. Hopefully the girl could hear it. Hassan considered reiterating it again but he didn't want to look like an ignoramus.

He brushed off his own seat and sat across from her. He averted his gaze from her eyes, not wanting to look too idiosyncratic. He feigned fascination in the menu for some time. Finally Hassan said, "Do you, uhm, intend to attend Beauxbatons Academy?"

After introducing herself, she quietly sat down, barely making any noise. She looked at Hassan...He was really handsome...What? What is she even thinking about? She just met him! She has to be more careful! She needs proof to judge somebody...proof about his good motives and personality...! And then he complimented her name...Maybe she wasn't sure about his motives but he was surely a charming person...She blushed and looked down:

"Um...Grazie..."

After that, he sat down as well...For some reason, he didn't look at her directly...that was better, though. No more awkwardness...He examined the menu for quite some time, as she was waiting for him to finish with patience.

"Uhm...yeah I actually do...I'm a first year...what about you, Hassan?" She said shyly as she looked at his charmingly handsome eyes...Stephanie was surely a shy person and rarely looked people directly at their eyes...she couldn't understand what was happening to her...

Hassan simply nodded. He could not place a name to the language but somehow he knew it meant thank you. What was he supposed to say after thank you? "What language is that?" he asked curiously.

She was surely a pretty girl and seemed fairly magnanimous so far. Regardless, Hassan decided he needed to collect more data before he decided if he was truly attracted to her.

"Me too." Hassan mentally admonished himself for asking such a futile rhetorical question. What did he say now? He mulled over his options. For some reason conversation had flowed much more smoothly with Andrea. "I...look forward to it with much anticipation," Hassan smiled a little awkwardly. He recalled what he had said to Andrea. It had been somewhat zany, but it had led to conversation. "I am a little skeptical about magic, in some regards. I am a very scientific person," Hassan professed, fidgeting with napkins between his hands.

He nodded...that was a good sign. He didn't disapprove of her...but why did she even care if he'd disapprove of her?...Stephanie couldn't understand what was going on, both in real life and inside her head. She had to calm down.

"It's Italian...it means "Thank you". I'm from Italy." She said, with a slight smile on her face. A slight smile. Wow...Stephanie wasn't really used to smile all the time, but that was probably an exception. Statistically speaking, there will be always at least one exception, at certain rules.

Hassan was a First year as well...that was nice. At least she wouldn't get the awkwardness of talking to somebody older than her, although she was mature enough to understand that friendships aren't really dependent on the age of two individuals.

"I'm a scientific person too, and I like finding proof about everything happening around me. However, I was born to a pureblood family, so talks about magic were pretty common and I got used to the concept. Even that way, I like to find proof about magical matters as well..."
Wow...Hassan liked science too... The possibilities are endless...they can have a million different conversations about all sorts of matters...

"Italy," Hassan repeated softly so she probably could not hear. Were all Italian girls as attractive as her? "I-I would love to live in the home of Leonardo Da Vinci, Enrico Fermi, and...Amedeo Avogadro."

"على الرحب و السعة", replied Hassan, smiling and bowing his head slightly. "That is Arabic for "you're welcome". I am from Dubai."

Hassan leaned closer, but not too close. He did not want to intrude on her personal space or make her believe he was too clingy. He listened with fascination when she mentioned scientific proof. "I am like that too!" agreed Hassan. "I must know...how everything works. Even though my family is pureblood."

Hassan was still a little insecure about his blood purity. He was a Muggle-born, which as he understood it, meant he was born to two Muggles. He felt bad about concealing that knowledge from Stephanie but he would perhaps tell her later. "I would like to find scientific proof of magic," he admitted.

She smiled. He liked Italy. He was just adorable. Mentioning all these famous Italians he'd like to live with... What was she doing?! What was she thinking of? Stephanie isn't that kind of person. She doesn't get used to others that quickly. She doesn't even smile that much during her daily life! Focus Stephanie...focus, she thought. She has to remain calm. Not unfriendly or hostile...just calm.

"Dubai, huh? That's eccezionale. Is Dubai a nice country?" There were many stereotypes about Arabic countries that existed, in both Italy and France. She tried not to mention them, in order to not sound prejudiced. She knew, of course, that they weren't accurate, but for some people stereotypes is the first thing that comes in their mind when they hear about certain countries.

Suddenly, Hassan leaned closer to Stephanie...he wasn't intruding her personal space, but she felt really awkwardly and blushed. Hassan looked even...more handsome from this distance. She was supposed to think of a way to calm herself down, but she was lost in his charming eyes...she couldn't think of anything else.

"Th-That's amazing. I always like people who have the same interests with me. L-like...I mean...you know...I just met you...but you seem like a good guy...I should shut it now." She couldn't believe herself! What has gotten into her? She blushed a lot...he whole face was actually red.

Hassan smiled shyly. "Your Italian is beau-beautiful," he stammered out. He blushed slightly. Goodness gracious. He hoped she didn't misinterpret it for him saying she was beautiful. Although he would have liked to say that too, but he had enough social manners to restrain himself.

"Dubai is a nice city," Hassan corrected, hoping he didn't sound too pushy. "It is very contemporary, but there are a lot of slums and poverty..." He frowned. He bit back his tongue from adding "I was born in one." The proud young boy did not want pity.

Hassan did not know many girls, or anyone for that matter, who were as insistent on scientific proof as he was. He blushed when he called her a good guy. Was he? He would describe himself as courteous, maybe, but he wasn't sure....

"No no, I am very...flattered." Hassan smiled, blushing himself. "But...what is your definition of good? Individuals cannot be measured in black and white, good and bad. There are too many underlying motives that fuel a person's actions, which can be subjectively deemed good and bad..."

He trailed off and cleared his throat. "Sorry, that's my little cavil," he apologized, staring at the menu.

Stephanie just couldn't resist it...she blushed. Her Italian was beautiful? Never before, did a guy compliment her. She always seemed so distant from everybody. She was really flattered. She didn't know what to say, so she just refrained from speaking. It was a pretty common strategy she followed.

"Oh city...right. Sorry..." That was embarrassing...She was never good at geography, but she never really expected that, to bring her to such a position of shame at the first place.

"I do understand your point. But from my point of view, good is a person with a nice personality. According to my standards, of course. I value a lot of things, but personality is the most important one." She blushed...she couldn't believe she said all these things to him! At least, it was more comfortable for her to express herself within the spectrum of psychology, than mere emotions.
