Giving Gifts Empty Giving Gifts

Post by Autumn Krischstein Sat Jan 03, 2015 12:19 am

Autumn hadn't been expecting to be on the Cerisier team last year. She didn't plan on trying out and barely knew what position she'd want to be. And with that tiny bit of knowledge, she ended up making the team and becoming captain. It was ridiculously lucky.

Even though Cerisier hadn't won their big game, Autumn was still proud of her team. She wandered into Bludgers and Broomsticks thinking that she might get the team something. But what could she get the entire Cerisier quidditch team? What could she possibly afford with her tiny allowance and saved money?

"Suppose you are the captain of a talented Quidditch team, but you don't have much money. What do you get your players?" she asked the person closest to her.

Kayla was trying to find an affordable broom. She hadn't expected to join Quidditch, let alone become a captain. So she had been stuck with an old school broom. Her family probably had some used brooms, but she was checking out if there was anything newer she could afford with her allowance. It was mostly wishful thinking, really.

One broom caught her eye with its listed speed. "Amazing," she breathed, reaching over to stroke the handle. Of course, the price was well out of her range. Nevertheless, she leaned over to get a better view of the broom and check out some other brooms next to it that seemed similar to it but less expensive. That was when she heard a familiar voice talking to her back.

Kayla paused. A Quidditch captain? With little money to spend? That sounded exactly like her. She turned around and grinned. "Autumn!" It was either her or Lucie. She doubted Isobel was lacking money or would waste it on team members.

She paused. "I'm not sure." She looked around the shop. "Maybe you can get them small broom care gifts," she suggested. It was practical, but not really the best idea. "I'll let you know if I get any more ideas," she promised. "How's the Cerisier team doing?" Kayla asked with a grin. It was the team she knew least about.

"Oh! Hi, Kayla!" Autumn said, surprised.

Autumn hadn't seen Kayla since the middle of last school year when she had been looking for Gregory. She really liked Kayla, even though she admitted to ditching class.

Autumn listened intently. "That's a good idea. I should probably talk to Professor Bowen about that. She might want to do that for everyone. Or maybe add it to her curriculum."

Autumn saw the way some of her team treated their brooms. Cerisier's brooms were fairly new and in decent condition.

Overall, Autumn was disappointed with Professor Bowen's flying class, even though she thought highly of the woman. She'd hadn't ever taught her anything helpful for being a Beater. "Thanks," Autumn said, smiling. "I appreciate any ideas."

Autumn frowned a little bit at the mention of her team. Everyone was either young, or about her age. "They're doing well, for the most part. The Chasers aren't doing as well. They all want to be the center of attention instead of work as a team," Autumn answered. "But that is fixable. How is your team progressing?"

Cerisier never seemed to play Nuage, so Autumn had no idea.

"Hi," Kayla smiled. She felt peppier than usual, and although she barely knew Autumn she liked talking to her. "Yeah. My team manhandles their brooms. I think a few of them will break theirs." Kayla tried to keep her own broom in good shape because she knew it would only last so long.

"I don't know what to think of that lady," Kayla admitted. Professor Bowen seemed fair enough, but the way she knew of Kayla and Isobel's rocky relationship and calling it out was odd. Although she supposed it wasn't a huge secret.

"Same." Kayla agreed. "The Chasers are good. The Beaters are the problematic ones on my team." Overall her team was fine, she just needed to get used to flying. She wanted to think that they would get better that year.

"Feu is the team to beat," she grinned. "Speaking of that, have you seen Greg lately?"

"Cerisier got new brooms a few years ago as a donation. The one I use is probably in the worst condition. It obviously had a bludger hit it. It was repaired, of course. But there are some dents that are definitely not just normal wear and tear."

"She was kind of a Flying tutor to me in my first year," Autumn said. "At the time, I didn't like Quidditch. But Bowen sort of convinced me. Though it was mostly Greg's influence."

"I've seen Beaters get rough. I try to keep it under control. It's a state of mind, in my opinion. I have to be very focused or else I get the bat knocked out of my hands. Being as small as I am isn't normally a Beater quality."

"I actually haven't seen Gregory yet. I saw him briefly over the summer for his brother's birthday. He's ten now," Autumn replied. She was very excited for Connor to come to school. Jonas, she corrected in her head. He changed his name, just for fun, apparently. It drove Gregory crazy, she remembered.

Kayla listened patiently. She was honestly somewhat tiring of talking about Quidditch. But Autumn was interesting to talk to. "I would have expected you to use more force to compensate for your size," she admitted. She admired her mindset and had a similar one herself in Seeking. Although personally, she could use more work not getting wrapped up in managing her team during the game. "Also, I wish people would keep their rivalries out of the game. Although, I would suppose it encourages them to do better, in their own way." One Beater on her team had a grudge on a Montagnard player. It didn't go down well, although it worked mostly in favor for the team, so she supposed it wasn't entirely stupid.

"Yeah, Greg is rather influential. He doesn't realize it," she agreed. Now that she thought about it, it was mainly him that was her reasoning to join. Greg was so quiet and inconspicuously helpful, she wanted badly to urge him to be more out there and take credit.

"Greg thinks my family is big. He has siblings he barely mentions," she laughed. She was truly interested to know more about them, but he never said much when she pushed for information.

"Well, focus helps with force, too. And aim," Autumn answered. She didn't want to talk about herself anymore. She found herself to be a tad boring.

"Oh, everyone has a bit of a vendetta with Isobel," Autumn said, rolling her eyes. She hadn't played against Isobel, but she'd seen the Montagnard Seeker play. And she was talented and definitely a threat. She had some admirers, but none of them were Quidditch players. "Unless... you aren't talking about her. Then, I said nothing."

"Gregory has a small family. Two brothers and a sister. Riley is fifteen, Jonas is ten and Angela is twenty three, I believe. He and his sister are really close. He and his brother... not so much," Autumn said, laughing.

She loved her uncle's family dynamic. It was so different than her own. She knew it would never be that way for her. She'd be the oldest and Marli would have the awful middle child position.
