Term 17 Round III: Montagnard vs Nuage

It was a bright, sunny, and cloudless day. It was a  perfect day for the final Quidditch match.  Professor Bowen was excited and nervous as she looked at the players on the field. Montagnard and Nuage had played well in their previous matches, but she knew that the tension between the captains was still there.

Bowen didn't know, or want to know, what it was about, but she didn't want there to be a accident on the field. The last thing she wanted to do was rush a student up to Monsieur Avery. "Congratulations for making it this far. I want a clean game," she reminded. "Green, Miller, shake hands."

After the girls finished, she told the teams to get in position. She blew her whistle and the game began.

Sophie Owens is the announcer. The match will end January 30, 2015

Montagnard had made it to the final match for the second year in a row. She was feeling very unconfident today. But she was going to fake it. Sophie was watching. And maybe some of the graduates were watching. Isobel was going to catch the snitch this time. If it was the last thing she ever did.

She didn't meet Kayla's eyes as the shook hands. Isobel was too nervous. She didn't even want to roll her eyes at Bowen's warning. She shared a smile with her team, then they kicked off up into the sky.

When the whistle was blown, she was off to find the snitch. She barely noticed Nuage making the first goal.

Nuage: 10
Montagnard: 0

Kayla was proud of Nuage making it to the finals. She wasn't too happy it was Montagnard they were playing against, although they did earn it. She only gave her team a quick pep talk in the changing rooms. Most of the things she wanted to say were pretty obvious. She was sure they wanted to win as much as she did. But the bulk of the points went to her. She had to catch the Snitch. 

She shook hands briefly with Isobel. She was filled with a frenzy of excitement as she mounted her broom. "Good luck, team," she smiled to her team, but she didn't think they would need it. 

She flew up high in the air. The noise from the audience was deafening. Maybe her brothers were watching. She locked eyes with Greg somewhere and smiled. Kayla resumed her Seeking, doing what she normally did and flew above the game. She heard the buzzers go off and turned, seeing with satisfaction that Nuage was winning. However she didn't get the chance to properly congratulate her team, as the Snitch zoomed right past her.

Montagnard: 0

Sophie wasn't feeling herself. Her bubbly, making cracks about everyone self. She was still excited for the game and for Montagnard to win and beat Nuage. So she gave an encouraging big grin to Isobel, hoping it would boost her confidence.

"Nice day for an exciting final," Sophie commented a bit half-heartedly, tugging at the edges of her blue and red outfit. "Nuage takes the lead, 20-0. Montagnard's Beaters are stepping up their game it seems, sending several Bludgers towards Nuage. A fine job they're doing." Her eyes were on the Seekers. She knew Isobel could do it. For some reason she didn't look on top of her game.

"Seekers Isobel and Kay-Kayla," Sophie stumbled there. She badly wanted to say Kaylie or some other mispronunciation, but Isobel had told her not to do that. She continued, "are deep in searching for the speedy Snitch." The buzzer rang. "And Montagnard scores. Good job, Chasers. Keep going."

Montagnard: 10

The next twenty minutes flew by in a blur. The tide quickly turned and it was Nuage playing catch up. Kayla couldn't resist nudging her team into their proper positions. She really didn't like having to yell, but she had to from such a distance. The Chasers were becoming too unsynchronized.

Kayla was making rounds around the pitch, keeping one eye on Isobel. Suddenly she saw gold streaking towards the opposite end of the field. She accelerated her broom, flattening her body against it, to the point where it almost felt as if she was flying without support. She took a sweep dive to avoid a Bludger. She heard the goal buzzer go off. She didn't pause her flying and outstretched her arms. The Snitch was there, so close. She didn't know if she'd ever wanted anything more.

Nuage: 60
Montagnard: 70

Isobel didn't have many complaints about this game. Montagnard was in the lead. Nuage's Chasers were apparently getting tired of playing. She knew that now would be a good time to catch the snitch, not that she hadn't been looking.

She hovered, searching for the gold ball. And finally she saw it. But Kayla had, too. It was just a matter of who could get there first. And Isobel wanted to be there first. She got a good one handed grip on her broom handle and sped off. She was so close, but it was too late. Nuage had already won.

Montagnard: 70

Sophie wouldn't admit it to Isobel, but she was bored by the game. Montagnard was in the lead having miraculously pulling ahead, and she'd made her share of upbeat positive comments. Hopefully spurring Montagnard to victory. She'd gotten player names mixed up again, this time not on purpose.

"Kayla's spotted the Snitch!" she exclaimed, sounding more excited than she really was. "Isobel takes off after her, but it's too late. Nuage wins the Cup." She said the last bit quietly, but it didn't matter. The Nuage side of the stadium had erupted into cheers.

"What a fun game everybody," she announced loudly before handing the mic back to Professor Bowen. She tossed back her hair and sighed as she tried not to get killed by the boisterous crowd. Sophie spotted Kayla and the rest of the Nuage team get carried by the shoulders of the crowd and rolled her eyes. She didn't get that kind of reaction when she won chess championships. She had to fight her way through the crowd to get to Isobel.
