Stroke of Luck Empty Stroke of Luck

Post by Guest Sun Jan 11, 2015 11:38 pm

Sophie was not happy. All she asked for was a quick drink stop as a break from shopping and ended up waiting in a huge line. Again. She surveyed her surroundings, looking for anyone potentially interesting. Her gaze landed on a cute blonde boy a few spots ahead of her, with the hottest hair. She wanted his attention, she just absolutely had to have it. And it wasn't something she could buy either. She tried remembering Isobel's advice, but she didn't know how to apply it.

Her eyes shifted again to the person who had just joined her at the back of the line. "Isobel," she smiled with a slightly nervous giggle. "I can't believe I've run into you, again!" She giggled again and tossed her hair. It was really such a coincidence, and a good one too. It had to mean something. "You see that guy over there? He is so cute," she whispered loudly, glancing in his direction. If he had good hearing, he probably heard her. But she didn't mind.

Stroke of Luck Empty Re: Stroke of Luck

So far things were boring, nothing was entertaining to the young boy. He wished that he would bump into someone wearing that band he liked's shirt and then have a deep conversation with them about their newest song. But so far he hadn't seen anyone with a good band's shirt, or a band shirt in general, and he gave up hope finding someone decent enough to hang out with. Of course he had his sister and she was around here somewhere but he needed someone else to make himself look even cooler than he already was. He was already cool to begin with and someone with amazing style like him was hard to find. He eventually gave up on his quest to find someone and stood in line to order himself something to eat. It was best to eat something before he began his shopping for school supplies.

We go together or we don't go down at all, he went over the lyrics in his head. It was such a good song, a great bass and amazing drumming. Maybe he should start a band. First he would need to find people that were actually cool. Soon his train of thought took a turn when he overheard a girl talking to her friend way too loudly for it to be a private conversation. Parker turned his head to get a look at the girl and nodded in her direction, a smirk played on his lips.

Isobel had finished all of her shopping. There weren't nearly as many items on the list as there had been last year. And she honestly just took Ryan's school books. So she walked around town and window shopped.

But she made her way back to La Petit Dragon. The carriages would be leaving in a few hours, and she wanted to relax for a few moments before running around again. Which unfortunately started with waiting in a line, as most of the Beauxbatons students were doing the same.

But she found Sophie randomly. "We'd run into each other eventually. I see a future Montagnard in you," Isobel responded. However, it didn't appear as if she were paying any attention. Isobel was going to snap her fingers at her new friend, but she turned her gaze to where she was looking. Which was straight at a cute boy. A really cute boy.

"Oh! He is!" Isobel agreed, turning her head back to Sophie. "Go talk to him. I'll get your drink," she said. "What did you want?"

Sophie still glanced at the guy out of the corner of her eye and caught his smirk. She suppressed a small giggle. Perfect. He wasn't the shy type, if nothing else he would be fun. But she knew she could only giggle and not-so-secretly gossip about him for so long, she would have to actually talk to him. Which was usually when she ruined everything.

She realized she'd been distracted from Isobel and just barely processed her words. "Right. Pumpkin juice, please. Talking. Um." With that amazing vocabulary, she tapped the boy lightly on the shoulder. When he looked at her, her brain momentarily clouded, but she managed to say the first thing that came to mind. "What's that shirt? I've never seen anything like it around here. It's so cool," she giggled. Out of the corner of her eye she mouthed Help me, to Isobel. She was going to run out of ideas soon. But for the moment she focused on the cute boy.

Sophie's words made Isobel want to smack her forehead. She wasn't going to, but she turned her head away from the two and surreptitiously rolled her eyes.

But she didn't miss Sophie's cry for help. Isobel winked at her and mouthed smile. Sophie wasn't doing badly, per se. Sure, the words weren't great so far, but as long as she looked pretty, it didn't make any difference.

The line seemed to be moving even slower now. Isobel's mind started to wander, switching to Ryan, then to Cameron, then back. She let out a mini sigh. Partly out of annoyance, but mostly out of not knowing what would happen this term. Isobel took a peek at Sophie and the boy, assessed their situation, then resumed her daydreaming.

The line was going horribly slow and Parker found himself wanting to get out of line and go back to his sister. But he had no choice but to stay in line when the girl he had caught looking at him came over to him. The blonde raised an eyebrow as she tried to manage one sentence. Who did she think she was? If she didn't know who the band was then she shouldn't be commenting on his shirt. The boy crossed his arms and switched his weight onto his left foot. "It's a logo of a band you probably haven't heard of," he said in a bored tone. "Very popular from where I'm from."

Or not popular at all. He was more of a fan of indie musoc. But some of the over big bands had some good music. "I didn't catch your name."

Sophie caught Isobel's advice and smiled. She could easily fake smiles, even-especially when she didn't feel like it. She brushed off the boy's uninterested tone. If he was going to play hard to get, so be it. "You're right, I haven't. Where are you from, then? I'm a big city hopper, myself." That was easier to say than list all the places she'd lived. And maybe he'd realize she wasn't some stupid nobody.

"I'm Sophie. Sophie Owens. And you are?" she giggled. She gestured over at Isobel. "This is my friend Isobel." She hadn't asked to be in the conversation. But it was rude to leave her out.

Isobel was pretending not to hear Sophie. But suddenly, Sophie said her name.

Maybe Isobel should have given her more instruction. Sophie should not have done that. Now, Isobel would have to join in. And that wouldn't be fair to Sophie. Most boys were on Isobel and she had to swat away the undesirables. Since Cameron, that had been most guys. And it was a safe assumption that he was not like Cameron and was just another boy.

Isobel walked over to Sophie and put her arm over her shoulders. "Yep. That's me," Isobel said sweetly. She smiled at the boy and winked when Sophie's head turned back toward the boy. She ran her free hand through her own hair.

"Sophie is good with music," Isobel lied smoothly, squeezing her friend's shoulder lightly, to reassure her. She didn't know that for sure. But even if Sophie didn't, Isobel could pick up the slack. "Try her."

"You can't tell where I'm from by my accent?" Parker smirked, man this girl must have been stupid. His accent was thick and it was easy to guess that he was from Australia, at least he assumed that it was easy to figure it out. "I'm not sure I can tell you if you can't figure it out," he played. "I mean, you're just gonna have to find out, huh?" He ran his tongue over his lips and stopped at his lip ring. He was only eleven but his parents had let him get the piercing to get him to shut up about it. "Sophie, huh?" Boring name for a boring girl.

He raised an eyebrow when the girl called over a friend. "Isobel? Now that's a name," he smirked. "Pretty name for a pretty girl." Now it was time to watch what that comment would do to the both of them. He ignored the fact that he hasn't introduced himself, he didn't plan on it and he wouldn't. "She's good with music?" He turned back to the Sophie girl and then looked back over at Isobel. "Favorite band?" His attention was back on the other girl.

Isobel smiled. She knew Sophie was asking to be polite. But going to an international school made it hard to tell sometimes. Some people from outside of France had very native-sounding accents. But this boy definitely stood out as a representative of Australia.

She didn't even blink at the boy's compliment. It wasn't actually all that original. She'd heard similar things with much better delivery. And besides, this was Sophie's target, not hers. Seemed that she was right about him being just another boy.

But Isobel was definitely kicking herself now. What if Sophie said something really lame? That would be extremely awkward. How did she cover that up exactly? Duh she thought. Logic

"Which one of us?" she asked. Not really a logic-based question, but it'd buy Sophie a little bit of time.
