Gregory liked Muggle sports, but after playing Quidditch at Beauxbatons for a season, Cricket and Football lost most of his interest.

Quidditch was going to start up again in a few weeks, and impressing Lucie and the rest of his teammates this season was starting to get important. Greg wanted to be just as reliable as the other Feu beater. Maybe even more reliable, if he was lucky.

So he had been doing some extra practicing. He was swinging around a bat when he saw another kid walk out onto. When the other kid got closer to him, Gregory could tell that this was the boy that everyone had been talking about: the one who looked like both a boy and a girl.

It didn't matter much to Greg. Sure, he had been surprised by the gossip. But his cousin told him not to judge a book by its cover. And even though he and Autumn weren't on the best terms, Gregory was not going to forget about the insane rules that she lived by.

"Hello!" he said, dropping his bat, narrowly missing his left foot. "You're Bird, right?"

Greg internally cringed. Why did he just assume he knew the kid? "I'm Gregory," he introduced. "What brings you out here?"

Flying on Brooms vs. Flying With Wings Empty Re: Flying on Brooms vs. Flying With Wings

Quidditch called to the first year, yet he didn't know if he actually wanted to play the sport. He saw other students playing the sport and he wanted to join in. Most of the time he was too scared to ask if he could tag along, the other occasions were him just wanting to watch it instead of playing it.  Maybe he would just wait this season out and see if he still wanted to play next year. He had to focus on his school work after all and he didn't want to just get by, he wanted to do well. After completing his homework, he decided it was a good time to go check out the quidditch pitch. Maybe today was the day he'd ask to join a game.

With each step towards the field, he grew more and more nervous. Maybe he shouldn't ask. He had never played the sport before. And who really wanted to play with a noob like him? He would just sit this one out, it wasbest for everyone. Of course Bird knew that rumors had spread about him, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Some were kind and some were just horrid. There weren't many people on the field so  he decided to walk around instead of finding a spot on the bench.

Out of the blue, a boy not much older than himself began talking to him. There was hardly anyone else around but Birdie still looked behind him to check to see if he had been talking to him. "Yes, I'm Bird," he said softly, his voice just above a whisper. "Hello, Gregory. I came to look around."

Greg was rather quiet himself, but Bird was almost whispering. Was Bird nervous to talk to him? That was a little weird. Greg didn't think himself intimidating, but maybe he was.

"Oh. Well, welcome to the Quidditch pitch," Gregory said, wondering when he decided to be the welcome wagon. He stood still for a second, then decided to pick up his bat again.

Gregory felt completely awkward. Bird appeared to be completely different from him. He didn't know what he could possibly have in common with the other boy.

Well, Bird was looking around the field. Maybe the sport was one something they had in common. After all, guys and girls played Quidditch. It wasn't about gender. "So have you ever played before?" Greg asked, trying to make up for the silence he had created.

Bird was nervous, not because of the person he was talking to but because he was actually talking to someone. And someone was talking to him. Why was he so popular all of a sudden? He was just a normal person. But it seemed liked others thought he was gossip worthy and Bird had yet to figure out if that was a good or bad thing. He hoped it was a good thing. People knew who he was without him knowing that and that's what made the first year so nervous. They knew things about him and they had things over him, he had nothing. They could say anything about him and he wouldn't know a thing about them.

"I'm more of a 'I rather watch' kind of guy," he lied. He wanted to play so badly but he was scared he'd make a fool of himself. He knew he would. He had never played and hardly knew a thing about the sport, something bad was bound to happen if he tried to play. "I just came to watch 'cause I was done with my homework." And I want to play.

Bird couldn't have been nervous because of Gregory. Was it because of the bat? He hadn't even swung it. And did he look like the kind of boy who would run around beating people up with a bat? He smiled, both at the thought and to attempt looking sympathetic.

Or maybe it was because Bird wanted to play Quidditch. Gregory had been nervous his first few times playing the game. It was hard enough to be a first year among the older kids, let alone being a brand new player with more experienced players.

"Are you sure? We could toss a Quaffle around, or something," Greg offered. He wasn't the best Chaser, but he had learned a few things from watching his teammates play.

This boy wouldn't let it go, Birdie said he didn't want to play. He did want to play though, but he also didn't. He wasn't going to, he refused to. He didn't know how and now didn't seem like a good time to learn. "I'm very sure," he said politely. Maybe now he would leave him alone about the subject of quidditch. Not everything at to revolve around the sport and Birdie didn't want to talk about it any longer. So, he rocked back and forth on his toes as he thought about what to say next. How did you make conversation? He wasnt very good at making good conversation and found either the conversation was dry or his partner was doing most of the tslking. Or both. And this was one of the times that both were happening.

"What do you do besides play quidditch?" That seemed like a fair question. Right? How was he supposed to make good conversation when didn't know what to talk about? What if he brought up something that offended the other boy amd he suddenly gained an enemy? He couldn't risk that. So he remained quiet after asking his question.

Gregory began to felt awkward. There was a sort of gap in the conversation and he felt that he was to blame for it.

But then, Bird asked him a question. Relief flooded through him. "Other than Quidditch?" Greg asked, thinking aloud.

And he did need to think about it. He did normal kid stuff, he supposed. "Well, I spend time with my friends. And I read a little," Greg stopped. He sounded boring. "Well, Quidditch is a year round sport, so it's a recurring thing," he explained. "Practicing a lot with a big game in between. So it's really mostly Quidditch for me. What have you enjoyed at the castle so far?" Gregory asked. Hopefully it wasn't too strange a question.
