Welcome to Nuage!

Kayla was excited. Nuage was the smallest house, and now Jonas was in it. Her new buddy. She hadn't given it much thought but if she had she would have figured him to be in Feu or Cerisier. The common room was empty, thanks in part to its small size. She carried in cupcakes with Nuage-colored frosting she'd snuck in from the kitchen. With help from older students, she conjured a large banner saying "WELCOME TO NUAGE, JONAS." Including other new Nuage first years' names too, but Jonas's was first because it had been for him in the first place. She compiled a random assortment of other magical goods for his entertainment as well. Nothing too fancy, in her view.

She had told Jonas to meet her there around that time. She heard footsteps outside the common room. Kayla smiled as Jonas walked in. "Surprise! Welcome to Nuage!" On cue, the magical jukebox began blaring a melancholic romantic song. Kayla laughed, surprised. "Oops, wrong song." She handed him the Nuage cupcake. "How do you like being in Nuage? How do you like Beauxbatons in general?" she asked, sitting down on the couch and smoothing her hair.

Jonas didn't know what to expect when Kayla asked him to meet her in the common room. But honestly, he wasn't trying to expect anything. He was just excited to spend time with his friend. It didn't matter at all what they were doing.

Jonas was surprised to see a party waiting for him in the common room. It looked like it could possibly be for the other Nuage students, but most likely not, as his name was first on everything.

He laughed at the incorrect song and took the orange and gold cupcake. "Thank you, Kayla," he said with a smile. He got really excited at her next question. "I really like it here! My roommate is super fun and I have classes with my other friends. I get to see my brother everyday, too! And this place is huge! I don't think I could ever see it all! And all the food and the magic and other stuff is so cool! Way cooler than my house and my old school!"

"How's Quidditch?" Jonas asked politely. He looked at the cupcake in his hand, then at Kayla expectantly.

Kayla smiled at Jonas's enthusiasm and pulled him into a brief hug. She herself hadn't been this excited for Beauxbatons. "Aww, you'll so love it here. Trust me this place gets even better. Except for the homework. Professor Fortier just dumped a two thousand word essay on us. You think you've had enough homework first year but your homework stack keeps growing each year." She took a sip of her pumpkin juice. "School isn't exactly always magical, unfortunately."

"We started off pretty strong. Then one of our best players got an injury. It might not heal in time for our first match. Professor Bowen's been pressing for me to get a backup, but he's just not replaceable. I haven't found any backups that can nearly match his skill." She shrugged. "I'll have to decide what to do soon."

"How's Greg?" she asked. Kayla hadn't been spending nearly enough time with Greg, in her opinion. "You're so lucky to have an older sibling in the castle. Greg and Autumn literally helped me survive last year."

"Here, have another cupcake Jone-Jone. We have too many anyway. Can I call you Jone-Jone?"
