Class: Gold Digger Empty Class: Gold Digger

Post by Professor St. Pierre Wed Dec 03, 2014 4:32 pm

Professor St. Pierre walked across the grounds at a brisk pass as he was running slightly behind schedule for today's lesson. It wasn't his fault exactly it was more the fault of today's lesson plan. The man had had to retrieve a pot of leprechauns gold for today's plans but he had found it wasn't where he had remembered it being. Now that he had to pot in hand he started heading for the field that was essentially the 'classroom' for his class. Thankfully only a few students were there already, his best pupils of course, who were slightly early to class. With a sigh of relief he walked over to to boxed creatures by the side of the field and placed the pot of fake gold on top of one of the boxes.

The Professor started digging holes with his wand and instructed those students who were early to start placing some of the gold into the holes. Once that was finished they all went to stand by the boxes.

He waited here for sometime until it was at last time for class to start and most of the students had arrived. "Good evening everyone." He greeted them with a bright smile. "Today we are going to see first hand how these new creatures act. In these boxes we have nifflers. Nifflers love treasures of all sorts, especially gold. In this field gold has been buried and we are going to use these little guys to find it. After we find all the gold I want all of you to write a short essay about these creatures based on the history of them given in your books and any other books you'd like. Alright so everyone pair up and come get a niffler and let's have some fun, you can all keep the gold you find." Professor St. Pierre explained the lesson plan before starting to open the boxes where inside there were nifflers wearing collars and leashes, each with a number.

Lucie's favourite elective had to be Care of Magical Creatures. It was so interesting to learn about all the strange and wonderful animals she'd never heard never mind met alongside those she'd only ever read about in story books. All of it was fascinating stuff. Her only disappointment was not finding anything which was close to squirrel like. There were animals similar to hedge hogs, cats, dogs & weasels. None so far as she knew were like squirrels.

Today the animals she peered at in the boxes whilst waiting for the professor arrived were ones she'd only read about recently in her textbook. Lucie slipped her right hand behind her back for fear one of them might try to take the small ring she wore on her middle finger. It wasn't a precious metal but she was certain it was shiny enough for a niffler to be interested.

Her concern though was dispensed with upon the arrival of Professor St. Pierre and forgotten upon the order to place some of the gold he'd brought with him into the holes he dug with his wand. It didn't take a genius to work out what they were going to do next and Lucie was glad she'd been one of those who came early.

Finally came the fun part and Lucie was quick to grab the arm of the classmate closest to her. "Be my partner...please?"

Bo merely took this elective since it sounded more fun than the other classes he had to choose from. He didn't mind pets, but this was a class about creatures far more dangerous and more high maintenance than a fish or a cat. Plus, despite getting to see most animals they studied in person, Professor St. Pierre always found a way to make the class more trouble than it was worth by assigning papers.

Bo heaved a sigh as nearly on cue after discussing the class activity, a paper was mentioned. Sounds like just another thing he'd put off to the last minute and then hammer out an all-nighter on. Even a treasure hunt for gold couldn't sweeten that fact. Though Professor St. Peirre did mention they could keep whatever they found, which made Bo smile. He could buy a proper set of robes with that money. Ones that fit him and weren't faded from use. He was so absent in his thought that he didn't even notice they were set free to find partners.

A touch on his arm startled him from his day dream and Bo turned to face Lucie. He paused a moment, hi eyes wandering to Riley across the way, before deciding perhaps it was best to work with someone else for once. Riley might as well have been over what had happened between them earlier that year, but for Bo, rejection still ached dull in his heart and he still felt embarrassed. His eyes returned to Lucie and then he nodded. "Sure. Lets find more gold than anyone else in class," He replied, an unnatural smile on his face. At least with Lucie as a partner, he could trust that she'd be enthusiastic about her work.

"Great," Lucie trilled. Her mind wasn't on what she could buy with the gold but rather seeing if she could get her niffler to find one of the spots where she helped to bury it. This would be the easiest activity they'd been given in Care of Magical Creatures and possibly the most fun at the same time. The pesky essay could be dealt with later. "I'll go get our niffler," she said and hurried off to the cages.

She soon returned to where she left Bo holding a squirming niffler in her arms. "I think he's a little eager to begin," she remarked, "so we'd better make sure to hold onto the leash tightly." Lucie let the niffler down on the ground whilst holding onto the lead which was attached to the animal. She wasn't prepared for the sudden pull and found herself propelled forward. "Hurry and catch up Bo," she called over her shoulder as she ran. Lucie wasn't any more prepared for the sudden stop than she had been for the pull and found herself running past the digging niffler. "Sorry," she said when she'd stopped but not before accidentally interrupting the animal from his digging.

Bo nodded and allowed for Lucie to fetch the niffler to complete their group. He wasn't entirely keen on the idea of touching one of the weasel-like creatures and was counting on Lucie being the one to hold the leash. When she returned with the creature writhing in her arms, he opened his mouth to insist she would be in charge of holding the leash, but before he could, the thing was off running.

Bo watched as the quidditch captain ran with the small creature's fierce pull in half-disbelief before he call for him to run finally settled into his brain and he moved after them. Bo wasn't much of a runner and was quite slow in his pursuit after his partner. Eventually the pair came to a clumsy stop long enough for Bo to catch up.

"He found something already?" Bo questionably stated. "Or she." He really didn't have a clue what the creature was. As if on cue, the creature suddenly paused its digging and averted it's black eyes to Bo. Before Bo knew it, the niffler pounced upon his, scrambling at his sleeve. "Oi! Get off me!" He yelled, trying to shake the persistent creature from his arm. It wasn't until the niffler finally procured what it saw that it finally released it's grab and fell back to the earth. "Give me back my watch!" Bo ordered, as the glimmering watch slide from his wrist into the clutch of the creature's. His sister had given him that watch and he would wrestle the small beast if that was what it took to get the watch back.

"He," Lucie said without taking her eye of the niffler. He stopped digging and Lucie peered downward thinking he'd uncovered the gold. She had not been prepared for the niffler to leap up at Bo. "Hey," she called out at the animal. "you're supposed to be looking for gold in the hole not watches." She knelt down on the ground and pointed down the hole. "Now let go of that watch and continue finding it."

Lucie hadn't been prepared for the niffler to make its move on her hand for the ring. "Let go. You can't have that. My dad gave me that ring." Tears were pricking her eyes as she dropped the lead and used her left hand to grab the niffler by the scruff of the neck whilst she attempted to pull her other hand away without losingthe ring. "Now drop my hand and dig," she ordered.

Nifflers weren't incredibly bright, Bo determined as both him and Lucie ordered the creature to focus on the task of searching for gold and let go of his watch. He wasn't too fond of the niffler, to say the least, and once it was off of him, it suddenly spotted Lucie's ring and was after that too.

In attempt to get her ring back, Lucie dropped the leash, which Bo quickly dived for. "Don't let it get away or we'll never see our belongings again!" Bo scolded, wrapping the leash around his wrist so it wouldn't slip away. A sudden yank on the leash left him unbalanced and he fell onto the ground. His knees pressing into the soft dirt, Bo grumbled about the mess for a mere moment before reaching out to help the niffler off of Lucie.

"Let go, pest! You're supposed to be finding gold! Not jewelry!" He was starting to think at this rate, even if they did find any gold, they'd never be able to take it from the clutch of the niffler. The niffler squirmed from his arms and once again, Bo fell right into the dirt. He loosened his grip on the leash and then helped himself up. There was no use in wrestling their belongings from the niffler. They would have to try and trick the niffler into releasing the ring and watch.

"Hey, do you have anything shiny that isn't valuable? Perhaps a gum wrapper?" Bo asked of Lucie.

Bo's warning had Lucie in a panic. Never see her ring again? She couldn't let the niffler take it away from her. Not something so precious to her. "I've got him," she cried as she continued to hold onto the loose skin at the back of his nick. She tried not to wince at the way the niffler was still attempting to get the ring off her finger. And then it was gone. "How did you do that?" she asked the niffler in anger.

"What?" Lucie asked momentarily distracted from trying to stop herself strangling the animal. "Oh. I'll just check." She brushed her hands together and fumbled in one of the pockets of her uniform. "Got it," she called out and brandished the red shiny sweet wrapper. "Look. What about taking this?" she asked the niffler waving it in front of his nose whilst making sure the sun hit it at the right angle so it really sparkled in the light. "I think it's working Bo!" she cried as the niffler lunged for the wrapper. Lucie then dropped it in the partially dug hole. "Has he dropped our things?"
