Term 16 - Quidditch Tryouts

Post by Professor Bowen on Mon Dec 01, 2014 1:29 pm

It was that time of year again, the beginning of a new year at Beauxbatons meaning it was once again time for quidditch tryouts. This was one of the professor's favorite times to be the flying instructor, however it could also be very stressful to choose students for the teams. However she was always able to decide in the end and she just loved the happy looks on the students faces when they flew around the pitch and you could always see that moment when each one of them finally got some confidence in their tryout performance.

Professor Bowen walked out onto the quidditch pitch to see a group of excited students standing in the center, some scared looking and others confident. She stood in the middle and quickly got everyones attention, "Alright everyone welcome to this year's Quidditch Tryouts." She said loud enough for everyone to hear her. "You will be notified when the tryout results are in." She told them all slowly to be sure they all understood. "Alright so with that let's get started and yes you may tryout for more than one position." She finished before starting the tryouts.

ooc:
-To tryout post only one for each position you wish to tryout for.
-You are to post strictly in character and write a one shot of your character going through their turn.
-Please pay attention to order when posting, for instance if you are trying out for seeker make sure to note that they had to wait till the end to take their turn.
-Be sure to give enough detail in the post to help the Ministers make an accurate decision about who to pick.
-Look at the Quidditch Team sticky to see what positions are open. There is only one Seeker and one Keeper. If those positions are filled on your team, you cannot tryout for that position.
-Message your house's Minister with any questions

Maybe one of the reasons Isobel wasn't patient for anything was because waiting made her jumpy. She was becoming more and more nervous as she watched other students' attempts. The older students were making her especially nervous. She felt out of place standing next to them. But she'd never let anyone see it. She held her head up and smirked at the students when they looked at her.

As soon the professor called Isobel's name, the anxiety was replaced with determination. She was going to be Montagnard's Seeker. It didn't matter what people thought.

When Isobel took her place in the sky, she started listening. She a heard faint buzzing sound, then she was off. She chased it for several moments and almost had the snitch when she flew a tad past it. Isobel reflexively reached directly above her head and suddenly gripped it.

She was so surprised that she almost toppled backwards. But Isobel regained her balanced and lowered her arm so she could look into her hand. She looked at the little golden ball that she had unexpectedly caught. "Cool," she marveled.

Re: Term 16 - Quidditch Tryouts

Kayla didn't care much for Quidditch. She'd seen her cousins play before, Mabel was very good and Fiona was very bad. She much preferred Quodpot, despite the fact that it was less popular. It was more hands-on and fun, in her opinion. However, she had a lot of extra time since the homework was easy for her, and the Nuage team needed players. Besides, she would play against Greg. That would be fun.

She had no particular reason for choosing to try out for Seeker. It was obviously an important role, but she felt up for it. Being Seeker would allow her to size up the whole situation on the playing field and help her team with strategy while staying relatively calm. Kayla gripped her broom and surveyed the pitch, keeping her face calmer than she felt. She was grateful when her name was one of the first Seeker auditions to be called.

She was off in the air in no time, and started searching for the Snitch. She spotted it at the corner of the pitch and lunged toward it, but it quickly surged to the opposite side of the field. Dang, it was fast. She kicked her broom off after it, but then it flew swiftly sideways. It was a ball, not a person. She couldn't predict its moves. She caught a glimpse of it heading downwards towards the sidelines at rocket speed. But playing Quodpot had trained Kayla to be fast on a broom and she pummeled after it. As she stretched her hand down it nearly evaded her fingertips, but she grabbed it firmly, almost pinning it down in the air. "Gotcha," she murmured triumphantly.

Autumn wasn't confident, but she wasn't nervous. She was mostly trying out for beater to spite her cousin. She was going to be better than him, too. She would make sure of it.

When her name was called, she got excited. Autumn loved flying, and it was probably the only class she had ever gotten an Outstanding as her final grade. She was happy to fly up to her spot with a bat in her hand. She felt like it belonged there.

The bat was a little bit heavy, but it didn't weigh her down while she was flying around.

She hit the first bludger completely out of reflex. She wasn't expecting it to be moving so quickly. It didn't hit anything, but it still went far away from her. She made sure to pay attention and actually aim for the next one, which she hit. It actually went toward a target. The next bludger she hit made contact with one of the targets.

Autumn was pleased with her performance. Even if it didn't get her a spot on the team, she had proven herself. The feeling was one that reminded her how fascinating magic really was.
