It's Missing Empty It's Missing

Ryan had warned Isobel that he had to work today. He made it very clear to her that he never wanted to catch her down in Whisper Alley. She had asked her brother where Whisper Alley even was, but he said she'd know she was there if she stumbled upon it. And she was not to go searching for it, either.

So he took her back to La Petit Dragon and told her to stay there until she saw all the older kids get up to leave. Then, she was to follow the crowd out to the carriages.

But that left Isobel bored. She had sat down at a table in a corner of the cruddy place and had started to people watch.

No one appeared interesting to her. The other people seemed to be adults or older teenagers. She wasn't about to mingle with them. If she wanted to leave a mark, she'd have to leave it on people closer to her age. She was going to be with them longer than she would be with the older kids.

So she sat for a little while longer. Isobel finally saw kids her age, maybe a little older. And even better. Boys.

Isobel had never had any trouble getting a boy's attention. It was simply confidence. And she had faked it enough to actually feel it.

She examined the group closely, then singled out the person she wanted. He looked kind of dorky, but he had potential. Really pretty eyes.

Now it was time for quick thinking. If he was as awkward as he had looked, she'd need to approach him. So she stood up and walked around slowly, looking underneath things and looking around like she was searching for something. "Hi," she greeted when she got close enough to talk to him. "Have you seen a green wallet with white polka dots on it around here? It's really important to me and I can't find it."

She shot a disappointed smile at him.

She of course wasn't missing her wallet. And even if it was missing, it had a completely worthless Muggle fifty dollar bill in it. It was tucked safely away in her trunk that she had already shipped to Beauxbatons. But this boy didn't have to know that.

It's Missing Empty Re: It's Missing

Cameron would be attending Beauxbatons for a second year and he couldn't wait to go back to his dorm and spend time with Wolfgang. He had met up with him while shopping but now he was somewhere else and Cameron decided to stay in the pub. He had met a few people last year and he had run into them so he decided to talk to them while he waited for either Wolfgang to come back or until it was time to leave to go to school. The other guys were talking about quidditch, which the Millers were huge fans of, but Camerom didn't join in the conversation. He just listened to them go on and on.

Suddenly someone approached them and the conversation went silent. "Bro, I think she's talking to you," one of the guys said to Cameron. As if he hadn't known. Okay, maybe he had thought she was talking to one of the other guys.

"Hi," he said softly, he stuffed his hands into his jeans pockets. "A wallet?" Had he seen a wallet? "I haven't seen it, but I can help you find it."

Isobel smiled internally when the boys friends went speechless for a moment. She could have their attention, too, if she pleased.

She tilted her chin down a tiny bit, raised her eyebrows, and smiled. "Really? That would be fantastic!" she replied, acting relieved.

"I'm not quite sure where I lost it," she said, turning away. "I was sitting over in that corner." Isobel pointed back to the left side of the restaurant, where she had been seated. She turned back around to face him. "I checked closely, I think."

"My name is Isobel, by the way," she said, brushing her hair out of her face. "Isobel Green. What's your name?"

It's Missing Empty Re: It's Missing

Cameron was always willing to help someone in need out and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. He might also make a friend out of this and it was always nice to have a new friend. If she didn't become his friend then he always had the friends he had now. "Of course, I'm almost always willing to help someone out," he grinned. There were a few things he wouldn't help someone out with but most of the time he did help.

He looked over to where she was pointing and shrugged. He couldn't see anything from where he was stand so it was best to get a closer look. "Let's go check it out just in case." Maybe she accidentally overlooked it or didn't look under something. "I'm Cameron, Cameron Miller. Cam, for short." He walked over to where she had been pointing and began to look around. "I don't see anything," he frowned. "Have you been anywhere else?"

"That's really nice of you," Isobel commented, starting to follow him back to her old table. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled at the remaining group of boys. Making the opposite gender like her way too easy. They'd all think about her. And they'd be jealous of their friend. Really, she was doing everyone a favor.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Cameron. I like your name. I've never met a Cameron before. Or someone with eyes as gorgeous as yours," Isobel said, feeling pretty satisfied with herself. She hoped she sounded as bold as Ryan would have sounded.

She wasn't going to linger on that comment. She looked around, then shrugged. "It was in my bag when I walked in, but I took it out to buy a drink. Then, I set it on the table. I didn't notice it being taken," she put her palm against her forehead.

"I really hope that's not what happened. I tried to stick to the corner so I wouldn't have any problems. Are you much of a loner?" she asked. Awkward kids normally equaled loners, but if he wasn't, that was even better boy-toy material in Isobel's eyes.

It's Missing Empty Re: It's Missing

Cameron felt kind of bad that he had felt the other boys behind. But he felt nice about helping the girl when she needed his assistance. Oh well, he'd just catch up with them later. "Um, thanks," the second year blushed a bit at her compliments. Did he have gorgeous eyes? He didn't look at his eyes too much, they were nothing special to him. Maybe next time he looked in a mirror, he'd look at his eyes. His name was ordinary, he was ordinary.

"You think someone took it?" Should they report a stolen wallet to one of the employees? Could they even do anything about it? This was a whole different situation if someone had taken it, they would have to tell someone that could do something about it. There was no way Cameron could find it if had been stolen. "Huh? Loner?" What was she going on about? And why was she asking weird questions? They were supposed to be looking for her wallet and she was too busy asking questions. "I don't think so?" How was he supposed to answer that?

Cameron's blushing was the reaction Isobel wanted. The imaginary question mark over his head was the mark of an 'I'm going to have to think about that later.' She was now going to drop it completely No more compliments. No more questions.

"I really hope no one took it," Isobel said.

"Maybe my wallet fell off the table and someone kicked it on accident. Will you help me look under some of these other tables? Just the ones around here?" she asked. She looked around. "I mean, the ones without people sitting at them." Isobel didn't really want to ask people to move on a lie.

It's Missing Empty Re: It's Missing

The second year didn't understand this girl, she kept switching topics and asking questions that had nothing to do with anything. Maybe it was just a girl thing, maybe they were all weird like that. He never really observed the way girls acted, not even his sister. So he couldn't be sure if this was a girl thing or if it was just the way this girl acted. If someone had taken it, it was probably gone now. And there was nothing that he could do about it. Why pick the wimpy kid out of a whole group of boys? He was the the least likely one to help someone fight for something.

If it was misplaced or kicked, then he could do something about it. If it were stolen, he couldn't do a thing about it. "Yeah, sure." This was beginning to be more than he bargained for. He picked himself off the ground and moved to an empty table. He got down on his knees and began to look under that table. "You gonna be a first year?"
