Clothes shopping was difficult for Autumn. Which was why her parents did it for her. They did a lot of things for her that most kids her age would be doing by themselves. That was the reason she felt like she'd been thrown in the ocean with no abilty to swim. She needed help, and that proved to be hard to come by.

But when she walked into Monsiuer Nightingale's shop, she was helped immeadiately into robes. She didn't even have to pick them out.

But the shopkeeper came across a problem very quickly. Autumn was short. Very short. She wasn't even five feet yet. Her mother assured her that she was just a late bloomer, but Autumn had not seen that as a reassurance at all.

The person measuring left Autumn alone for a moment to trim her robe down to at least a starting point of a reasonable size. She sighed and turned to her left. She was excited to see someone being fitted for a Beauxbatons robe. "Hi!" She said excitedly. "My name's Autumn! You're going to Beauxbatons this year, too?"

Aleta wasn't going to like the uniform. Where was the color? Where was the pink? She heard that she couldn't add anything to the uniform to make it her own. She wanted to stand out and start trends, not look like a sheep following its family. Where was the creativity? It was so dull and boring. If she couldn't do anything to her uniform then she had to do something with her hair. Something different that made her stand out. She spent lots of time pampering her hair to make it silky and smooth so she had brought almost all of the things she would need to keep her hair looking that way. Even her hair accessories.

She grumbled in Spanish, which no one seemed to understand, about how terrible the uniforms were. The powder blue washed out her skin and made her look paler than she was. She was in the middle of being fitted when someone began to talk to her. She had no clue what she was saying but caught the name of the school she would be attending. She didn't know what she had said but knew she said something about Beauxbatons. She hoped it was a yes or no question because those were always so simple to answer. "Uh, si," she spoke softly. A small blush covered her face, hopefully she didn't catch on to her not knowing French.

Oh crud, Autumn thought. The girl next to her didn't speak French. Or at least not very well. What language would she speak? Si is Spanish right? she thought, beginning to freak out. She didn't know any Spanish. Except 'hello' and 'where is the bathroom'.

Something universal, Autumn thought. Maybe English?

"Do you speak French?" Autumn asked in highly accented English. Stupid Dutch accent, she cursed

She was forced to study English at her Muggle school. She didn't get very high marks in the class because she couldn't read the language. But her speaking was decent. It all depended on if the girl could speak any English. Maybe she could salvage the conversation and rescue the girl. Maybe even teach her a few French phrases to help her.

She didn't like the fact that she stuck out like a sore thumb. She rather just be like everyone else and talk French. But she was unable to in such a short time between getting her letter and arriving in France. You couldn't learn a language over night. Maybe they had a potion for that sort of thing. She made a mental note to go to the potion shop, if she could even find it, and look for a potion. With the help of her father of course. The other girl didn't speak Spanish like the rest of the people she had met. She was beginning to like that one boy more than the rest of the people she met only because he knew Spanish.

She tilted her head to the side and bit her bottom lip. She sounded like she was asking a question but she couldn't understand what she said. Since she had went with yes the first time, maybe she should go with no this time. But what if the answer to this question was yes? What if it wasn't even a yes or no question? "No," she spoke softly. She didn't know how to tell the woman fitting her that the robes were too tight. Great, she was going to have to deal with that all year.

The girl answered Autumn's English with a no. Technically, it was correct, since she spoke no French. But the girl had said it in a confused way and did not elaborate any, leading Autumn to believe that the other girl also did not speak English.

Autumn switched her mind back into French mode, as she had been calling the ability since she had arrived in Paris. What had been the first French words she had learned? Probably 'My name is' or 'what is your name'. Maybe the girl understood those.

"Je m'appelle Autumn. Comment tu t'appelles*?" Autumn tried. She had her fingers crossed.

Why did people have to be so confusing? The other girl spoke in languages that she could not understand. Why did she agree to go to a country that didn't speak the same language as she did? She couldn't understand a word anyone was saying and she assumed all of it was French. She didn't know the difference between the languages and there were no words that she understood.

She tilted her head to the side as she spoke up again. She remembered reading that in her book. But she was having a hard time remembering what those words meant. "Aleta," she said softly after a while. She had finally figured out what she had been saying.

Aleta. That was a name! The girl understood. Autumn knew that she could ask her questions, but basic ones. "Aleta is a pretty name. How are you?" Autumn asked. She knew that she needed to ask slowly, but not loudly. "Loud in another language implies stupidity," Autumn's father had told her when he was helping her study English one afternoon.

Autumn smiled and waited for the girl to respond. She could tell that Aleta was frustrated. Autumn would have been, too. And probably a little helpless. But maybe Aleta needed someone to be patient with her and to help her with French.

The worker pulled her uniform a bit to tight which caused Aleta to glare at her. If she couldn't understand her then there was no use telling her off. Didn't she know how to do her job properly? It was her job to make sure that students were comfortable not squeeze the life out of them. "Well," she turned her attention back to the girl. She wanted to say that she disliked the person that was fixing her uniform but she wouldn't have understood. She couldn't wait to get her hands on a language potion, if those even existed.

"How are you?" she said slowly. Finally, she could actually say something. But it was just basic French and she wasn't mastering it at all.

"I'm well, also." Autumn responded.

Autumn was watching Aleta's reaction to the person who was fitting her. Aleta winced every time the robe got a new stitch.

Autumn wrapped her own robe's sleeve around her arm tightly. "Aleta, say 'too tight'," she said. Hopefully Aleta would understand that. 'How do you say' was another basic phrase that most people learned.

She let her robe sleeve relax and pulled her shoulder out of it a little bit. "Say 'too loose'," Autumn explained again. She probably looked like a total dork, but if it helped Aleta, Autumn didn't much care. She could get over it. And even if Aleta decided to be rude to her at school because of this experience, it would be a reflection of Aleta, not Autumn.

She watched the other girl move around and fix her robes so that they were too tight on her. "T-too tight," she repeated. She looked over at the worker who was now fixing her robes properly instead of them being too tight. Thank heavens that her uniform wouldn't be too tight during her first her. She was so scared to start Beauxbatons, she dodnt even know French. Just some of the basics.

She grinned at the girl and repeated after her once again. "Too loose," she said softly. She was thankful that the girl was working with her and wasn't getting angry. She didn't know what she would do if someone got mad at her for not speaking French.
