Daniel was sitting in the library working quietly on an essay for charms class. He liked to spend most of his time in the library, whether it was homework or reading or just hanging out there by himself. Daniel yawned quietly and rested his chin in his palm while he scribbled away, finishing off the essay. He tucked all of that stuff away and pulled out a book for fun to read. It was a new YA fiction book, totally a muggle book, but oh well. Some of those were good too.

He looked up when someone sat down beside him and smiled at the familiar face. His best friend, well one of his best friends. “Hey, Heather.” He smiled brightly at her. “How are you doing?”

Heather knew Daniel was always in the library. She'd begun to feel weird. She was so jealous that Melody got so much time with him. She was his friend first. She saw him alone in the library and hurried in. "Daniel." She said happily and plopped beside him. She looked around, and there was no Melody. She smiled. "Whatcha reading?" She asked, resting her head on his shoulder. "Is it something good?" Heather asked, peeking at the words. "Are you going to be able to come up with stories for me based on it?" She asked with a smile up at him. Heather yawned softly.

Daniel smiled happily at her. He was pretty lucky to have Heather as his friend with her being a queen bee and all. He gently wrapped one arm around her when she plopped her head on his shoulder. “It’s a new one…well new to me at least, The Maze Runner. It’s alright so far, a pretty slow start.” He shrugged and noticed her curious peek at the book then lowered it down for her to see. Daniel chuckled softly and shrugged. “I dunno, maybe I will? But I know your favorites are princesses and goddesses. So, why stray from that?” He grinned slightly.

"I don't know." She shrugged and nuzzled his shoulder. "I bet Melody likes more than just that. She probably likes vegan goat stories, and sophisticated stuff like that." Heather frowned. "Do you like her better than me? She's smarter, but I think you're still my favorite best friend." Heather said, not really looking at Daniel. She couldn't blame him if Melody was his favorite. She spent like all her time with him. Heather sighed softly to herself. Maybe Heather would find a new friend so that Daniel could spend all his time with Melody. She was sure that he would. He clearly liked her.

“What makes you think I write stories for her, hm?” Which he did only write one story for Melody and it just felt weird doing that so he never wrote one for her again. “My stories are just for you.” He shut the book and booped her on the nose gently. Daniel didn’t have favorites, at least not in the best friend sense. He thought Melody was pretty and maybe something was happening there, Daniel wasn’t really sure yet. He had liked Heather in that sense…but she was so popular and there was no way she’d be with a loser like him and he deemed it impossible for her to like him in that way as well.

"Because you spend so much time with her, and you like her so much better than me. I just figured that you'd wrote stories for her too. I mean she's pretty, and smart. And I'm really stupid." Heather just kind of shrugged in frustration. "I mean you two are going to get married, and you're going to forget all about me. I wasn't a cool enough friend." Heather sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm being stupid. I just don't want you to stop being friends with me. I'll be really upset if you do. I mean I get that you'll be busy with Melody, but don't forget about me, please."

Daniel pulled Heather into a tight hug. “Shh, stop saying these things about yourself. Heather, I think you’re brilliant and perfect. You’re my best friend in the whole entire world and nothing will ever change that, okay?” He asked softly, hugging her tighter. Heather was such a confident person and to see her like this was upsetting. “Married? Heather… Melody and I aren’t getting married. We’re like twelve.” He chuckled and shook his head. “Besides, how could I ever forget about you? I’m always going to be your friend, okay?” Daniel pulled away to looked at her and smiled softly. “We’ll always be best friends okay?”

Heather just nodded. "Okay." She rested as close to him as she could. It was pretty obvious that Daniel made her happier than anyone else. "I'm sorry." She said gently. "I'm really happy that you and Melody are getting closer. You two would be cute together. I mean she could make you your own couple shirts, and you could work on her farm with her it'd probably be pretty fun. I wish I still talked to her, but I really don't. She personally annoys me sometimes." She shrugged. "I just feel like she thinks she's better than me." Heather looked away from Daniel.

Daniel looked at her worriedly. He wasn’t used to Heather being like this at all. He gently took her hand and squeezed it gently. “It’s okay Heather.” Daniel murmured softly. “How long have you felt like this? You should’ve said something sooner…” Melody and he would be cute together? That had some gears turning in his head. But that wasn’t important right now. Heather needed to be comfort. “Heather…you are just as amazing as Melody. You’re sweet and pretty and the greatest quidditch player I have ever seen. I’ll say something to Melody, that’s not fair of her to treat you as such at all.”

"No, don't say anything." Heather shook her head. "I don't want any drama to start. It's really not that big of a deal. She does her thing and I do mine." Heather shrugged and played with his hand. Daniel might have told her she was pretty, but Daniel didn't really think so. If he had, then Heather would be with him. "Just forget about it Daniel, okay?" She really wanted him to keep this between them. He didn't want to be putting Daniel even more in the middle of her and Melody. It just wasn't fair to him, or to Melody."
