Term 14 Defense Against the Dark Arts Exam

Post by Professor Cox on Sat Sep 27, 2014 10:02 am

The room was already silent from the time the rest of the students had filed into the classroom, to the time he finished passing out the written tests and he intended for it to last until the last student handed in their exam and left. Professor Cox would not accept any tomfoolery on that day. There were always a handful of students who thought it was wise to try and cheat their way to a perfect grade and he was on the lookout for them. Any student caught would not only fail their test, but would receive detention from him. He was a strict sort of teacher.

"You may begin," He told the class in his baritone voice before he took a seat at his desk, facing all the rows of students with bowed heads over their exam papers. He wasn't going to idle his time with work. He intended to keep a watchful eye on all until the exam was through.

Ooc: This is a chance to win some house points. In this thread, you will roleplay how your character takes an exam. Do they cheat, or are they honest (maybe include who they cheated off of)? Did your student study? Are they guessing on every question? After you are finished with your post, a Minister will tell you you your grade (Oustanding, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory) and whether or not they got caught cheating. The grades influence how many points your house gets. No points will be awarded for an Unsatisfactory. A Satisfactory will receive one point, and an Outstanding will receive three points.

The posts must be at least 100 words long (like all posts on this site) and they must clearly say if your student cheated and whether or not they studied. Just because they cheat, doesn't mean they'll get caught. And your student could fail if they studied, or pass if they didn't study. Have fun!

Jude Ross
Third Year
Didn't cheat or study

He had waited last minute again to do his homework and it was way past midnight. He must have fallen asleep while doing his work because when he woke he had ink on his face and his Charms homework was still incomplete. He gulped as he packed up his things. He couldn't finish it now, he was so late for class. He was too scared to think about Professor Cox's reaction to his tardiness. And on an exam day. Jude couldn't imagine how much detention he would get. It was better to be late than not show up at all, right? He was glad he had slept in his uniform from the day before. At this point he didn't care that he was in yesterday's outfit or that his hair probably looked horrid.

He rushed down the hall and hurried to his classroom. He stopped in front of the closed door to catch his breath and compose himself. Oncd he was ready, he slowly opened the door and took a seat at the first emtpy table he saw. He looked at the professor with pleading eyes but he just shook his head. The man got up from his desk with an exam in his hands. He slowly walked over to Jude, with every step made his heart pound, then he set the test down and told him to see him after class. Jude nodded and took out the suppies he would need.

He didn't study and he knew he wasn't going to do well. He managed to steady his hand long enough to write his name but it began to shake again as he answered questions. There were some questions he remembered but most of them he just guessed on.

Christine Henrau
Sixth Year
Studied
Did not cheat

Christine may come across as the helpless female but now in her Sixth Year of Defence Against the Dark Arts she understood the importance of such a subject as Defence.  Princes did not exist in the real world and she may be called upon to defend herself.  It would be a dreadful position to be in but if she could hit iron balls 50 feet in the air she would be able to defend herself against a foul creature or human if she were ever caught in such an undesirable position.

She was confident of her ability to write all the relevant information required of her.  She'd studied for the test as she had for every other test.  It never paid to assume you would not need to study.

At the command from Professor Cox her head was down and her eyes skimming the questions.  Then came the writing.  Neat and tidy with the relevant information.  Correct information in her opinion but that would not be truly revealed until after the professor had marked her work.  She only just managed to finish seconds before time was up.

Autumn Armstrong

Didn't cheat

Autumn looked like a maniac practicing the spells for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Being super short and very thin didn't make her look frightening. But DADA was her second best class. Autumn always 'won' when she practiced with Julie-Pierre. Even on her worst days, she could beat her best friend, to his frustration.

So Autumn knew that this test was going to be a breeze. And her expectation was correct.

She flew through the test and felt very confident. She finished with ten minutes to spare. She smiled to herself.when she passed her paper in. Beauxbatons was being good to her

Aleta Luis

French was getting easier to understand with each passing day and she was learning more and more. She was able to study now without having to ask her roommate, Gi Eun, for help. She could finally read French on her own and that came with a freeing feeling. She felt independent which made her feel super great. She had spent at least two hours the day before studying for this exam and now it was time to actually take it.

She was never a good test taker, her heart would always race and she would forget what she had studied for. It was like her brain went blank as soon as a test was set in front of her and it made her feel terrible. Today she tried her best not to freak out once the test was passed out. She gulped loudly as she read the first question. She remembered the question from her studying but she couldn't recall the answer. She let out a long sigh before answering the questions the best to her ability. She didn't expect to get an excellent grade on the test but she did expect to at least get a good grade.

Haruhi Kita
First Year

Did not cheat

Haruhi adored Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Studying for the class was never a bore and it was easily her favorite class in school. However, that didn't mean she wasn't nervous about the exam. Though she felt that she had done all in her power to study for the exam, she still felt butterflies tickling at her navel as she sat down in class and a test was placed in front of her. She took a deep breath. There was nothing left for her to do but her best.

Surprisingly, the answers came to her with ease. As her eyes scanned over each question, she found there were few that she really had to ponder over. Studying sure did seem to pay off as she marked down the last answer to the test, feeling pretty good about herself. She felt confident that she had at least obtained a passing grade.

Oh, it seemed to be an astounding time for the boy. He was likely one of the few people that loved to use spells.  Julie-Pierre had to admit, spells and charms were truly something he could memorise easier compared to his other classes. It was strange, because one could argue those were more difficult than normal academics.

Whenever he could, he would always sneak about to use the spells he learnt in class, though making sure that it wouldn't get to anyone. He didn't want to get in trouble for something that he thought to be so small. Thankfully he had managed so far to be sneaky, though knowing he needed to stop the facade before he would actually get caught in the act. Not even God likely knew what fate would fall upon him if he were caught using spells outside of class, though he wondered if a prank or two on some close friends would truly hurt.

Nevertheless, the redhead felt he leaped through his exam perfectly. His ego trip was getting the better of him through the course of it, and he did not realise until the end that he had some mishaps in what he did. Either that, or he was thinking too much about it. He didn't know, and quickly his stress and fear were rising. What was his score? Would it help or hinder his team? He hoped his pride hadn't resulted in the Feus losing points.

Lucie Banken
Second Year

Didn't cheat

DADA wasn't Lucie's best subject but that was usually because of the spell casting side of it. The written test though should hopefully give her less trouble. It was study and write and no need to worry about if she was pronouncing a word correctly or moving a wand the correct way. Just study and then answer the questions in the exam.

She entered the room with the confidence of something she couldn't describe. It was making her feel ill to the stomach. All she had to do was sit down, wait until she was told to begin and answer the questions. Easy right? Not at all. She was still nervous and felt like she could barely hold her quill still.

The exam questions were easier than she thought they would be but with her shaky hand it was possible her answers weren't very clear. It was going to have to do and at the end of the exam she had completed everything but left a few inkblots on the paper as well.

Harley Fenwick
Sixth Year

Didn't Cheat

Harley had always been good at casting spells, but for some reason she hadn't been doing well with the last spell they had gone over in DADA. She had basically studied and memorized the entire textbook (which Ryan had said was absolutely ridiculous), but she still felt like she was forgetting something. Nonetheless, the test was being passed out, and she was freaking. She nervously tapped her quill against the wood of her desk and bobbed her knee until someone gave her a nasty look and shushed her.

Once she got the test, the first questions were easy. It was all, 'What's the best spell to use when encountering an ogre? Explain your reasoning.' and for the most part she was doing pretty well. It was until she hit the second to last question that she nearly fainted when she realized the didn't know the answer. How did she not know the answer, you ask? Maybe because the one day she was sick and had asked her roommate to grab her homework, her roommate, had not in fact, grabbed her homework. Deciding that guessing would be the best answer, she scribbled down something she thought would be write and swiftly answered the last question.
