One More Sad Song Empty One More Sad Song

It seemed only natural for him to be attending the dance with Rosalie. She was, after all, his girlfriend and the Valentine's dance was just the romantic occasion for them. Malachi loved dancing. He wasn't incredibly gifted at it, nor graceful, but always thought it was so romantic in romance movies when the guy dances with the girl he loved. Malachi wanted tonight to be like that, but something felt wrong. Something kept nagging at the back of his mind and he just couldn't ignore it.

Malachi picked Rosalie up at her dorm, wanting for them to enter together, and smiled and complimented her dress, like any good boyfriend would do, before taking her arm gently and leading her.

"Would you like to dance?" He asked, as they walked into the grand hall and onto the dance floor. He put on a smile for her. He wanted this to be perfect, to feel right, but it didn't.

One More Sad Song Empty Re: One More Sad Song

Rosalie was excited for the Valentine's day dance this year. She was finally able to go to it with her boyfriend. She and Malachi had been dating for over a year now and she was very happy with the relationship. She knew that it was going to be hard once she graduated and had to leave Beauxbatons, but she'd get through. She just hoped that they're relationship would be able to survive through everything. It just had to. Everything was too perfect.

That night she had adorned herself in a pretty white dress and put flowers into her hair. She was in a word, beautiful. She smiled at Kai when he arrived and kissed his cheek. "Ready to go?" She asked and took his hand, and walked down to the dance with him. She could tell that he was little distracted, but she wasn't sure exactly what it was. "Are you okay, Kai?" she asked sweetly and looked at him with her pretty eyes.

Suddenly a song with a very fast and fun beat began to play. She laughed and smiled. "I love this song!" She said, taking his hands and pulling him onto the dance floor. She wasn't the best dancer, but she knew a few moves and spun him around a few times and giggled when he spun her. "This is so much fun!" She called, laughing!

Malachi couldn't bring himself to look Rose in the eyes. Luckily, most of the dancing was done in such a fashion that the pair did not have much time to talk. He smiled politely as Rosalie announced she liked the song and did his best to jive to the music. His heart wasn't in it though and he was thankful when the song ended and they could take a break. Unfortunately, a break didn't seem to be in his stars as a slow song came on next. There was no avoiding slow dancing with Rosalie. If he said he wanted to sit out that dance, she no doubt would be hurt. He couldn't think of an excuse, so he took her hand in his and started to lead them in the slow dance.

"sorry," He uttered, as his foot accidentally treaded on her foot. "I'm afraid dancing isn't my strong suit," he admitted, sheepishly, dropping his eyes back to their feet as they continued to dance.

Rosalie laguhed, danced, and spun with Kai to the fast beat of the song. She loved the feel of being free on the dance floor and being able to dance however she wanted to. This night was going to be great. Just as the song ended she smiled at Kai. She was about to head off the floor when a slow song came on. "Will you dance with me?" She asked sweetly and smiled at him. She knew that he would, even though he fancied himself a bad dancer.

Once he stepped on her foot, she laughed a little. It hadn't hurt, he was just a little nervous....or better yet, distracted. Though, she couldn't understand why. She decided to push it off to the side for now. They were supposed to having a fun night together. She smiled once again and looked up at him as the song came to the end. She leaned in to kiss him. It was the perfect moment.

Malachi wanted to opt out but Rosalie was asking him to dance the slow dance with her. He chewed on his lip as he nodded stiffly. Turning it down would only cause trouble and he wanted this night to be perfect just as Rosalie did.

They spun around the floor for a bit in silence, Malachi not wanting to speak the duration of the dance. His mind was elsewhere, as were his eyes. He hardly even noticed when the song came to an end until Rosalie stopped moving. His eyes moved to look at her, wondering why they had stopped dancing before realizing it was the end of the song. She leaned in closer for a kiss and Malachi panicked and turned a cheek to her where the kiss landed instead of his lips.

He faced her again with red cheeks after the awkward kiss had happened. "Rosalie," Malachi uttered softly. "I have been doing some thinking," He added after a brief pause. He wanted to choose his words carefully. "And I think we need to talk. About us, that is," He clarified, clearing his throat. When did it get so hot in here? Suddenly he felt too warm in his homemade dress robes.

One More Sad Song Empty Re: One More Sad Song

Rosalie suddenly felt her lips press against something hard and cold. She opened her eyes and realized that he had turned his cheek. That couldn't be good. Biting her lip hard she looked at him in both confusion and sadness, she knew what this was. This was how everything started in the movies. First the date would act weird and then they'd deny signs of affection, and last the dreaded words 'We need to talk' would spill from their mouths.

As if on cue, Kai spoke this sentence. Rosalie felt her heart clench and she took a deep breath trying to contain her feelings. "Talk...." She said softly and stared at the floor, not wanting to meet his gaze. She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat and took another deep breath. "You want to break up..." She said barely audible. "Don't you..."

This was something that she had never expected to say to Kai. They were happy, at least, she'd been happy and he seemed happy, but it must have been a show, because here he was saying that they needed to talk. The floor was beginning to look very inviting. She just want to curl up into a ball on the floor. Why was this happening....here? Now? Sighing she forced herself to look up at him, but she found her eyes falling back to the floor once she had met his. She couldn't bare it, it was too hard.

Malachi did his best to lead the pair of them off of the dancefloor onto the sidelines where they could talk without interrupting anyone during the next dance. He could tell Rosalie sensed something was up by his starting words, but did not expect the question that had immediately followed the suspicion.

"Yes...No! I don't know, I said I just wanted to talk," Malachi answered. This wasn't easy for him. He felt confused and that something was off. Maybe she had been thinking the same thing and that was why she had been so quick to mentioning breaking up. Malachi was saddened by the thought, but had to consider it might be for the best.

"Where do you see this going in the future?" Malachi asked of her, with a sober tone. "Us, I mean. You're graduating next year and I'm not. Rose, I care about you greatly and I don't want you continuing to date me because you feel obligated, as I am sure you would feel the same for me. We'd still be friends even if another guy caught your fancy. I'd still think of you in good light," Malachi told her and sighed heavily. So much was troubling him. It was hard to find the right spot to start but he had to stop ignoring his problems and talk them out with Rosalie. Secrets in a relationship would only act as poison, destroying them slowly.

Rosalie bit her lip hard as she walked off the floor with Kai. This couldn't be happening. They had too strong of a relationship. Everything was too perfect. It had to be something she had done, "Kai...I'm sorry for whatever I did to make you feel this way-." She started to say, but then noted what he said about them being together in the future. "Well, I figured I'd graduate and wait for you." She said softly. "It's not out of obligation, Kai I'm with you because I want to be with you. You're my liebe.." She said and shook her head. I thought that I was yours...?" She asked and wouldn't meet his eyes again. "Am I wrong?" She asked softly. She hadn't meant to make him feel bad, but she didn't understand why this was happening. Sure she was graduating, but that didn't mean that she'd love him any less. "Are you happy?"

"It isn't anything you have done." Malachi quickly interjected as Rosalie began to blame herself. If only she would just listen. This wasn't easy for him. He was trying to get to the bottom of something important to him. He wanted to fix whatever in them was broken; whatever made him feel empty inside and make him hesitate the three words that Rosalie was confident in. That never seemed right to him.

"And I thought you were mine once. But we have both changed. I am not that boy who stood with quaking knees as I stood up to your father," Malachi heaved a heavy sigh. "That boy knew in his heart things like true love existed, but this boy who stands before you right now doesn't know what to believe." He looked down at the floor. He knew he majorly screwed up the night for both of them at this point. "So no, I am not happy. I am confused and I need time to think. I don't know who I am anymore and I think we should only be together if I know for sure that who I am is someone who loves you," Malachi finished. A lot had happened since the couple first got together.

Rosalie listened as he talked about the boy he was and all of the things that helped her fall in love with him. Those were the things that brought them together, but the small dates, the getting to experience new things together was the best part and she knew she loved the person that he'd become and she wanted to explore it more, with him there as well. The fact that he did love the person that she'd become hurt her. She didn't know if she could hold it together.

"So you're telling me that everything was fake..?" She said, her voice cracking and she forced herself to hold back tears and keep a steady voice. "Kai, I love you. I loved you since before I told you that I did, but I didn't say it anymore, because you weren't ready. I respect that, but you're right. You aren't the boy that you were a few years ago. You're better. True, I fell in love with that shy boy who stood up to my father, who taught me to make a cake, who showed me a whole world that I've never explored, but that boy I loved has become the man I love today. Kai you've taught me things that I couldn't have dreamed about, you've showed me a side of myself that wouldn't be there if you hadn't shown me the way." She said with emotion and looked into his eyes. Some much was there, their whole relationship flashed in front of her. "I love you...." Emotion overwhelming in her voice. "Please...don't do this.."

This wasn't easy, and it didn't make it any easier by the things Rosalie was saying. He knew of her affections for him because she had told him of them on a previous date. Back then, he knew his feelings were not equal to hers. They were different and he felt wrong to lie so he hadn't and instead told the truth. He wasn't going to lie now either.

"Rosalie, I care about you greatly, but I am just not in love with you," Malachi admitted, looking up from the ground and looking into Rosalie's eyes. He wanted her to believe him. "And I don't think I am ready to love someone until I learn how to love myself first," Malachi said it. He finally hit the feelings on the head and nailed it. Their relationship had been great but all that time Malachi fed on Rose's affections and replaced hers for his own. Now he looked into the mirror only to see some boy he did not know or understand, knowing that it was hard to love a stranger. "I will always be there for you...but I just need time," Malachi all but whispered.

Rosalie bit her lip hard and nodded at Malachi said. She didn't understand why he was doing this...she wanted to continue this. If he needed time...then she'd give him time, but this was going to be difficult for her. She loved him, just the thought of the situation made her heart feel like it was being wretched from her chest. She let a small tear fall from her eyes and quickly wiped it away. "Right...um." She said laughing a little bit, but it wasn't a genuine one. "If you need time, I'll give you time." She said softly and stared at the ground, not wanting to meet his gaze.

Her party clothes suddenly felt tighter and uncomfortable. Rose just wanted to go to her room and be alone. Guen wouldn't be back for a few hours and she figured that the silence would be good for her. She took a deep breath and nodded. "I hope you have a great night, Malachi." She said properly. "It was magical." With a small nod as to try to reassure herself she said her final goodbyes. "Happy Valentine's Day." She said and walked out of the dance. Rosalie didn't want to be there anymore. Her silly dreams, weren't worth a mention, but they kept swirling through her head. She had just been a part of a silly thing called love, and she knew that love couldn't exist. Coughing, she felt tears building up. Once the few few fell, it was like a waterfall that just kept flowing and nothing could stop it.
