Charlotte had already begun to speak to Philip less often. Ever since he'd told her that he was going on vacation with Kayla. It seemed to open the floodgates. Now it felt like he spent more time with Kayla. Which was fine. Philip and Kayla were good for each other, but Charlie was stuck with still being friends with Philip even if that friendship was slowly declining since she gave back a lot of the things Philip had given her.

Unfortunately for Charlie, Philip must have still thought everything was fine between them because she was invited to join him and Kayla on a picnic. Charlie really didn't want to go. She didn't want to watch Philip give Kayla goo-goo eyes while they flirted. It didn't seem like a fun way to spend an afternoon. However, Charlotte was not good at asserting herself, nor did she desire to hurt Philip's feelings. So, she decided to go.

Charlie saw the two of them and sighed. Kayla was laying with her head in his lap and they were laughing. Charlie felt like she was intruding. She continued to walk over to them with wheels in her head spinning. She'd pretend to be sick about half way into lunch. That way Philip would think they're friendship was still strong, and he'd get some picnic time with just Kayla. Charlie sat down across from the two friends. "Hey, guys."

Philip definitely thought everything was fine and dandy between him and Charlie. Though a big sign of something being wrong was Charlie returning practically everything he had given her. Philip didn't even catch onto that at all. He tried to hang out her too, but Kayla was pulling him in a different direction and usually won. But, he still tried to make an

For some reason he thought it would be a great idea to have a picnic with Charlie and Kayla. Totally brilliant, right? Wrong. One of his dumber ideas that’s for sure.

He and Kayla had gotten to spot before Charlie. They set up the blanket and sat down. He flushed slightly when Kayla put her head on his lap. The two got distracted talking and laughing. He looked up at the sound of footsteps and smiled at Charlie. “Hey.” Kayla sat up begrudgingly and simply nodded a hello.

Charlie bit her lip. Philip and Kayla were so happy and she was interrupting. She decided it would be better for them to have their own fun. "Hey." She smiled at Kayla before feigning a sick expression. "I have a really bad stomach ache." Charlie told Philip. "I don't think I'm in proper shape to have a picnic, but you two should continue on in my absence. I'm probably just going to go lay down in the infirmary.

That was exactly what Charlie did. With her fake illness she headed off to the infirmary. She curled up on a cot and fell fast asleep. When she woke up three hours later she turned red. She was clung to a guy's arm. She looked up and squeaked. Philip. "H-Hi." She managed out of her mouth. "I am so sorry." She untangled her arms from his. "H-How long...?" Charlie flushed red.

Kayla could tell from the start that Charlie was miserable over the little picnic date. She really was acting like the third wheel right now, but Philip had insisted on including Charlie. So, she compromised and let the blonde tag along. However she made sure to do little things to annoy the other girl. Like, her hand lingering on Philip’s for a second too long. She grinned triumphantly when Charlie feigned an illness.

Philip looked at Charlie with a concerned face. “Are you alright?” He definitely bought Charlie’s sick act (he’s just so potato). “Oh, okay, I hope you feel better.” He bit his lip, watching her go. Kayla drew his attention back to herself and they continue the picnic. At some point Kayla started saying some not so nice things about Charlie, well that didn’t go over very well with him. Long story short, the picnic ended abruptly and he wasn’t going to be speaking to Kayla for a few days or more.

Philip immediately went to the infirmary to check on Charlie. She was curled up in one of the cots and he took a seat in the only chair beside it. She looked troubled in her sleep and he leaned forward to smooth out her hair. That made her smile, which drew the corners of his mouth slightly upward. Philip didn’t move when she wrapped her arms around his arm, he chuckled softly and scooted closer to the bed. He looked up when she began to stir. “Hey.” He said softly and bit his lip when she untangled herself. “It’s okay, don’t worry about it. I think you’ve been asleep for a few hours, but you need your rest if your sick. How are you feeling?” He asked worriedly, noticing her cheeks were red. “Do you have a fever?” He reached out and touched her forehead and cheeks to check for one.

"If you don't mind..." Charlotte wrapped her arms back around Philip's arm. "I'm feeling better." She promised, snuggling her face into his shoulder. Charlie sighed, she felt so guilty. Philip deserved a better friend than her. Not someone who skipped out on a picnic just because she hated who her best friend was crushing on like wild.

Charlie bit her lip softly. "Philip, I just...I uh...I hate her so much. I know she's important to you, and that's okay. It's just well, it's just I don't want to be around her when she is around you if that's okay. I know it is really petty and a Popsicle headache for you, but I can't be around her. She's just terrible in my opinion."

“I don’t mind at all.” Philip smiled gently when her arms were around his again. Everything felt right cuddled up like this. He wondered why he had even let Kayla boss him around and convince him not to hang out with Charlie as much. “I’m glad you’re feeling better.” He kissed her temple.

“I know, I’m sorry I even tried to make you two hang out together. She doesn’t like you very much either.” Philip muttered the last part. “It’s okay, if you’re uncomfortable being around her, you should’ve told me sooner. I was being too hopeful that the most important person to me would be able to get along with the girl that I like. And you’re allowed to have your own opinions, Charlie.” He smiled gently at her.

"Good." She sighed happily against his arm. She had no idea if Philip would ever see her as more than just the girl he hung out with sometimes, but when she was curled up against him it made her think there was a chance that he was closer to loving her than he really probably was.

"Alright, then what I want you to do is not feel bad if most of your time is spent with Kayla. I think that if you like her than she is more important than me or at least more important to hangout with right now. Show her that you like her Philip. You two getting together would make me so happy. Well, just you being so happy would make me so happy."

Philip stroked her hair gently, smiling as she snuggled close to him. He was so lucky to have her as a friend and he started to throw that away. She didn’t deserve him as a friend. She deserved someone smart like her. He zoned out getting lost in his thoughts. Charlie was going to make some guy so happy one day, whoever that is will be so lucky. Though he’d murder him if the guy broke her heart…

“Charlie, she’s not more important that you. I shouldn’t focus on just one of you. I’ll have to split the time up more evenly or something. I promise I’ll make all of this up to you, okay?” He asked quietly. Philip listened to her and slowly nodded. “I.. okay.”

Charlie smiled and nestled in Philip's arms. "If you're trying to get a girl this will have to be one of the last times that we do this because Kayla isn't going to want a guy who goes around cuddling with other girls. Trust me, I'm similar. I'm not all out against it, but I like to have the guy to myself. A boyfriend isn't meant to be shared with everyone you know. I'll teach you the ropes of behaving as a couple too. You're going to be like the most impressive boyfriend ever. Kayla is going to be so lucky to just look at you-let alone go out with you on dates."
