Tamara wasn't entirely sure why she had been chosen to be a prefect. Did they toss their names in a goblet and choose at random? She didn't think she should've been chosen as one. Tamara did absolutely nothing around school. Except hangout with her girlfriend and friends. She wasn't in any clubs, didn't join quidditch. Zip. Zilch. Zero. But, she never once got detention and her grades were all very good. And her parents were proud when she told them, so Tamara wasn't complaining too much.

She was doing rounds for the night. It was one of her least favorite things to do. Very boring. And little noises that go bump in the night, totally freaked her out. Tamara would never admit anything like that to anyone, not even Grace. She was on her way back to her dorm when she heard something, correction, someone on the ninth floor. She bit her lip and ventured a little ways down there. "H-Hello?" She bit her lip, whoever it was dropped a book. Tamara jumped, scared out of her wits. "Bloody hell!" She looked at the student. "It's after curfew!" She hissed, crossing her arms and trying to act all authoritative. Tamara's tough act wavered, she was so bad at pretending to be a "bad guy". "What are you doing out of bed?"

Serah was wandering the school. She didn't really care that it was after curfew. She just needed time to think about her secret being out to the last person who needed to know.

But she was still scared when she noisly dropped her book onto the floor with a large smack.

And suddenly she gained her cares again when a scared Prefect yelled/whispered at her.

"I left my book up here," Serah answered crouching down to pick it up. "But before that, I was hiding from people. And before that I was embarrassing the shit out of myself."

Serah didn't know why she just told a Prefect the truth. She just smiled and cast Lumos. "I'm Serah Palmer. I'm a Montagnard. And I'm sure you're going to deposit me into the hands of Professor Cox. I'm okay with that. Let's go."

“Oh…okay.” Tamara nodded. She kind of wanted to know how the girl embarrassed the shit out of her. But decided that she probably shouldn’t ask because it wasn’t her business and it was rude. “It’s uh… it’s okay. You were just retrieving a book. I’ll let you off with a warning this time, okay Serah?” She probably should’ve brought her to Professor Cox, but Tamara was too much of a softie. “But don’t tell anyone okay?” She didn’t need this one blabbing, then everybody would make sure to wander when she was on duty and then it would just be bad.

"Don't worry. I've got no one to tell," Serah assured.

Serah was half wondering why she didn't get in trouble. She had genuinely hoped to get in trouble. But just when she wanted trouble, there was none to be found. She had cut class without being spotted by one teacher. She roamed the school alone, without anyone finding her. It was maddening. That was part of the reason she waited until after curfew to pick up her book.

"Soooo," Serah started. "Do you roam the school at night a lot?"

Yeah. THAT will make things less awkward. Way to go Palmer, Serah thought sarcastically towards herself.

Tamara nodded. Okay, that’s definitely good. Tamara hated turning people in. Especially first years, they always shook in fear. Though this girl was definitely a second year and didn’t seem like she scared easily. “I’ll escort you back to your dorm. Which house are you in?” Tamara was guessing Montagnard since she didn’t recognize her. Silence drifted between them and Tamara’s thoughts wandered to her girlfriend.

“Hm?” She tilted her head. “Oh, no not usually. Prefect, I generally have to follow the rules.” She laughed softly. “I only roam them when I have to. Do you make a habit of it?”

"Recently? Yes. I have been roaming. I figure that maybe I can figure myself out if I'm a little bit unsure of where I am. That was part of my goal tonight," Serah answered. "To find something and lose something at the same time."

"I'd hate to follow the rules all the time. Some need to be broken to make a change. And I love pranking too much. And going to the Restricted Section of the Library to get advanced Charms Books."

Serah laughed at how nerdy she sounded. "So did you plan on being chosen as a Prefect? Or did it catch you by surprise?"

Tamara nodded, listening to the girl talking. “Does roaming help you figure things out? I like taking walks during the day. That helps me clear my head and think better.” She smiled at the other girl. “To find something and lose something at the same time… how does one do that?”

She shrugged slightly. “I’ve generally been one to follow the rules, so…” Tamara shrugged again. “That’s probably the only rule I’d break, to sneak in and get Potions books.”

Tamara didn’t think the girl was nerdy at all. “I didn’t plan on it. I literally have done nothing here.” She laughed slightly. “I didn’t do any clubs, but I’ve done my best in classes and never once got detention. So, I guess I’m a pretty good student, but yeah being Prefect was a shock.” She played with her hands. “I thought my girlfriend might’ve gotten it before I did.”

"It's kind of hard to explain," Serah started. "I found my book, but I'm trying to take myself out of my mind and survive on instinct. To do what I have to without getting emotionally involved. Emotions have only gotten me in trouble this year. So losing myself."

"Is it scary? Being under all the pressure? Following the rules and keeping your grades up? Do you feel like you have to fit in and be popular, or whatever?"

As much as Serah wanted to blend in, she wanted to change the school. After she heard Fiona lying to that first year, she knew that the school was messed up.
