Milan hardly paid attention to a word of what Professor Boux said-except for "Wingardium Leviosa" and "levitating." She figured that was enough to do the assignment, so she blocked out the rest of the lecture. She found Serah at the other side of the classroom and grinned, mouthing Let's do it. Milan hoped Serah knew she was referring to the prank they had devised before in the book shop. She couldn't wait for Professor Boux to stop talking and let them practice the charm.

Finally, when Professor Boux said "Everybody pair up and practice the charm", Milan sprang out of her seat. She made her way over to Serah eagerly, watching Professor Boux leave her desk. She grinned at Serah and flourished her wand in the air, pointing to a vase above them, and said "Win-gard-i-um Levi-o-su!" The vase barely wobbled, but she saw a pair of students next to her who managed to levitate a flower.

"Great, everyone else already got it," she said gloomily. Trying to remember Professor Boux's pronunciation, she exclaimed "Wingardium Leviosa!" and pointed to Professor Boux. Unfortunately, she didn't float the professor, but she was positive she had caused her cloak to ripple. "Oops," said Milan as Boux rounded on her. She turned to Serah. "Cover me?"

Serah was paying attention to Professor Boux, only because she was waiting for the directions to pair up.

Serah and Milan planned some of the pranks that they were going to pull this year. This one involved casing a little paper chaos.

Milan bounced out of her seat and aver to Serah.

Milan looked at the vase and purposefully said the incantation wrong. The pronunciation was so off that Serah almost giggled.

Serah knew that Milan could do the charm, as she demonstrated on Professor Boux's cloak.

Serah was practicing the charm when Milan asked her to cover her. Professor Boux zeroed in on Milan.

Serah nodded. She dropped the flower and shouted, "Wigardium Leviosa!" at the giant stack of papers on Professor Boux's desk, sending them all floating in midair all across the class.

Serah, shocked at what she had just done, dropped the papers in horror.

Milan smirked. "What? I had to make her think I couldn't do the charm. Then she won't suspect us...." She surprisingly felt excitement as she saw Professor Boux coming towards her. She mimed straightening her bow and having an aura of professionalism, as if dealing with a difficult client.

"Mademoiselle Milan, what were you supposed to levitate?" Professor Boux demanded, completely unsuspecting to Serah.

"I don't recall," Milan managed with a straight face, trying to stall Serah some time.

"A fixed object," Professor Boux said impatiently, gesturing to the vase. "I believe your pronunciation is off?"

"Um......" Out of the corner of her eye, Milan saw Serah performing the charm. "Er, I suppose so Madame," she said with mock formality. "You see, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say....because I was so busy taking notes...." She grinned. Serah was levitating the notes to the middle of the room. Yes! she mouthed, but Serah seemed to be having second thoughts and dropped the notes.

It was enough, though. With a sudden surge of exhilaration Milan pointed her wand and yelled "WINNGARDIUM LEVIOSUH!" It was not a nice, neat levitation, but instead scattered the papers in every direction. She grinned before remembering Professor Boux, who was rounding on Serah now. "Er, fixed object?" Milan said as Professor Boux opened her mouth to give Serah a talk.

Serah was 100% sure that she was a witch from the beginning of time, but when she did the charm correctly, she wasn't expecting it to be so powerful. It caught her off-guard. She wasn't expecting the papers to move as quickly as they did.

Just when Serah thought she had ruined the plan, Milan had clumsily shouted the incantation.

The Professor looked at the two of them. She apparently didn't know who to speak to first. She looked at the two girls.

Serah practically saw Professor Boux put two and two together.

The class, who had been laughing, were suddenly silent.

Professor Boux sighed. "Get back to practicing," she announced to the rest of the young wizards and witches.

"Serah, Milan. Follow me," Professor Boux said, walking towards the door.

Serah smiled at Milan, then followed the professor into the hallway.

When Professor Boux confronted the girls in the hallway, she didn't start with the yelling as Milan had expected. Instead, in a low voice she admitted, "Not terribly bad charmwork girls. Serah, you levitated a thick stack of papers together for some time, and Milan used a mispronunciation to her advantage. I won't condone this behavior, however," Boux said sternly, "so don't think you're getting out of a punishment in the slightest."

Somehow, she and Serah had managed to stay silent. Professor Boux continued, sounding disapproving. "I don't believe in meaningless punishment, so you two girls will be writing an essay on all wizarding methods of flying. That includes all levitation, all broomstick flying, anything that involves charming an object into the air." Professor Boux turned curtly back to the classroom, gesturing for Milan and Serah to follow her. "I expect it to be turned in at the start of next week, and you will be working together on it."

Professor Boux turned on her heels, leaving the girls in the hallway.

"Ugh." Serah said.

Serah really had no interest in flying. Or in writing papers.

"Well, Milan," Serah started, "We have to write a crappy paper."

Serah could only think of a few choices: Go to the library, go to the Quidditch Pitch, or never go to Charms class again. She was seriously considering the last one, but spending time with Madame Leblanc didn't sound like much fun/

"Where should we go to do our research? I literally know nothing about flying-g," She admitted.

Serah was at least happy to spend some time with another human being. She had spent almost no time with any kids in Montagnard, so she figured writing a paper would at least give her some time to socialize.

"Wow, I didn't know the punishment would be that bad," said Milan, grimacing. "Okay, so we need to research broomsticks, thestrals, levitation, and I think there's some really high-level-wizards flying without support?"

Milan sighed gloomily. "I suppose we'll have to go to the library. Just gather all books about flying." She suddenly remembered something and groaned. "I was planning on going to the library just to cause a little chaos...but if we get kicked out there we can't do our essay." The bell rang, and the students poured out the door giving Serah and Milan looks ranging from intrusive curiosity to admiration. Walking back into the room to gather her things, Milan said to Serah, "See you later, we'll work on the essay."
