Evil Eye Empty Evil Eye

Marcy had read about potions in multiple fairy tale books when she was young. They seemed to her like a breed of soup that smelled horrible and possessing a purpose besides filling one's belly. Usually potions did something, changed something in the drinker. Marceline never understood why anyone would drink something as foul looking and smelling as that and manage to not upchuck, but she supposed that potion making and potion drinking were two very different things.

"I could brew potions to turn someone into a toad. I could bake it in some cookies and give it to my enemies," She mused quietly to herself, as she perused the shelves. She already picked up the cauldron and standard potion making kit she would need, but the ingredients that lined the shelves were too interesting not to take a long gander at. "Bet Frank has no idea I'm getting prank ideas from attending this new school." She poked at a jar with eyes floating in it and, much to her surprise, watched as the eyelid draped down to cover the eye. "Creepy," She noted and meant to move on, but someone was in the way.

"Excuse me," She said, quite politely. She already tried to make her way around the person, but the distance between the shelves was so scarce that it was proven impossible. "But you're standing in my way," She finished and placed her hands on her hip in a manner that showed she was waiting for them to move.

Digger entered the Potions shop with a yawn and with little care about what shop it was. He had all his school supplies already. But his younger sister had gotten lost and he was supposed to be looking for her. He wasn't giving it much of an effort, though. He browsed the shelves nonchalantly, not reading any of the labels but rather making up his own titles for the strange looking potion ingredients and deciding what they were for.

He paused at a particularly intriguing looking bottle in the shape of an orb, and filled with what looked like purple jelly. The interesting part about it was the worms making their way through the jelly. Or at least they looked like worms. He grinned and leaned in to to take a closer look, when someone said, "Excuse me, but you're standing in my way."

Out of money, but deciding it was too interesting to pass up, he picked up the orb and slipped it in his pocket, "What?" he turned to the person talking to him. She had her hands on her hips, and he raised his eyebrows, before turning sideways and scooting past her, "Sorry," he said lazily and without much care.

How rude for the boy to not even notice she was there until she had spoken up. Even though she had always told herself she'd rather remain in the background of people's lives, it still bothered her greatly when people didn't hear what she had said, as if she was just a ghost. She knew she mattered more than that, but for some reason the boy was really caught on some jar on the shelf. He didn't look like he could be much older than her, but Marcy was positive that was not on the supplies list.

Familiar with the art of shoplifting, she noticed that he hadn't returned the jar to the shelf, but rather slipped it into his pocket before scooting out of her way. Marcy's eyes narrowed. "You can't do that," She hissed, as she caught up with the boy and grabbed his sleeve. This wasn't like stealing an overly priced candy bar from the convenience store. This was the magic world and who knew what the reprehensions were for being caught stealing. More than a slap on the wrist and a talk with the guardian, Marcy supposed.

"What if you get caught?" She asked, in a hushed tone. "These are wizards and surely things don't escape their attention as easily as it does for...muggles?" She wasn't familiar with all the terminology quiet yet. "What if they do something horrible to you?" She questioned. To her, it seemed like he hadn't quite thought of everything yet.

Digger sighed when the girl grabbed his arm, and he rolled  his eyes with a small smile as she started talking about the repercussions of him stealing the jar in the magical world. Sweet, a muggle-born probably, he thought.

"Hmm... Nah." he said, scratching his chin, trying to hold back a smile. "Look over there," he pointed to the front door of the shop, which could be seen over the shelves. "See that purple line thingy on the top of the door?" he said, pointing his finger at the little shade of purple light flickering slightly around the top frame of the door. "Thief sensory spell. It detects anything that leaves the shop without being purchased. Practically every shop's got one here." He took out a rock-- simply an ordinary rock, from his pocket. "Know what this is? This is an Opposite Sping Ding Flop Rock." he made up wildly, but convincingly. "They block sensory spells like those. Just keep it in your pocket and you can get away with the whole shop." He grinned, hoping she was drinking up his little story. This was why he loved muggle borns. In actual truth, he was just relying on his fast feet and maybe a few diversions. If he could get this kid to go along with the story though, she just might make the perfect distraction. "Here." he took another rock from his pocket and handed it to her, then grabbed a bottle off a shelf and stuffed it in her pocket for her. "Try it." he grinned.

Marceline, unamused, followed where the boy was pointing, half expecting for the boy to just bolt if she were to take her eyes off of him. However, he didn't run and explained to her the anti-thievery spell, much like a muggle shop's detectors. She raised an eyebrow, but supposed it made sense for no shop to be left unprotected like that. What she didn't believe was the rock, one that looked like he had plucked it up from any old park, that he claimed rendered the spell useless. The name didn't help his cause either. It sounded like a bunch of toddler babbling nonsense to her.

She held the rock, giving the book a look of disbelief and squirmed as he shoved a bottle into the pocket of her dress. "But I don't want any of that!" She started, in protest, speaking a bit louder than she had intended to. Realizing her blunder, she dropped her voice to a whisper. "Maybe you ought to go first to show me how it's done," She suggested. She may not know much about wizards but she did know not to trust strangers, so she wasn't going to automatically believe the young thief in front of her.

"Well go on," She said, crossing her arms and tapping her Mary-Jane shoe. She'd believe him once she saw with her own two eyes. "Or were you just lying to me?" She asked, her eyes narrowing as she approached the boy threateningly. Her cauldron clutched on her arm dragged across the shelf of the narrow aisles and knocked down a few bottles, which broke at immediate contact with the floor. She gasped and backed up, knowing the trouble she had caused and knowing the trouble she'd be in once she heard the once sleeping cashier wake up with a jolt at the noise. Her wide eyes turned to Digger, asking what should she do?

Digger's smile never left him. He was just ready to shove Marceline out the door, setting off the alarm, and then making a bolt for it. But as she took a step towards him, and knocked the bottles to the ground, his plan was foiled.

His head whipped over to the sound of footsteps coming towards them. He looked down at the mess the girl had made and then back at her, with a panicked expression. "Run!" he automatically yelped, as he turned on his heels and ran for it.

As he ran out the door, he felt a small shock run through his body and an alarm went off. Ignoring the shock easily, as he had a lot of experience with it, he ran as fast as he could, with no idea if Marceline was following him or not, heading for an alley he had chosen ages ago in case he needed a place to hide in Amythest Alley.

She should've known that the boy was no good once she had seen him slip the jar into his own pocket, but she just had to talk to him. If she would've let him go, he could've gotten in trouble on his own and she wouldn't have been in the mess she was in at that moment. But when the shelf was knocked over, she knew there was no going back.

Without putting much thought to it, Marceline obeyed the single order the boy gave and bolted towards the door. Like the boy had promised, the shop had enchantments on the door to detect any stolen goods and she squirmed as she heard the alarm sound with his exit, but followed him out anyway.

Without knowing the alley very well and not having time to think, she decided to just follow the boy to wherever he was going. Once he had stopped, she did too, looking over her shoulder a few times to make sure they weren't being followed. Once she felt safe, she turned to the boy again and hit him on the shoulder. "Are you completely mental!?" She yelled and then stuffed her hands in her pocket only to find the jar that he had made her steal. She pulled it out and examined it with a scowl. "I don't even want this!" She thrusted it in the boy's direction.

He was feeling quite satisfied that he had gotten away with taking the thing of purple jelly. He remained amused as she punched his shoulder. Rubbing it, he let out a laugh at how annoyed she seemed.

Instead of catching it, he stepped aside as she thrust the jar in his direction. It broke on the ground with a loud crash. "Oops." he said, blinking, and looked at where it had landed. "Ew..." It seemed to have been full of an odd yellow liquid that was now sizzling and crackling on the ground.

Wrinkling his nose at the ghastly smell that now filled the alley from the broken jar, he took a step back and looked back at her with a smile. "That was fun. Want to go see what other loot we can get away with?" he asked, as if it was a simple game.

The bottle fell to the ground and shattered upon reaching it, spilling the acid-like substance on the pavement beneath it. She watched as the pavement sizzled, then turned an alarming blue and then shook her head. Great, of all bottles to give me, he chose the one that would've turned me blue, she thought.

Now that she was safe (or as safe as she could feel, after the previous events), she was perfectly content with coming out of hiding and finishing up her shopping trip. However, the laughing boy seemingly thought their misadventure was fun.

"Fun? Fun!?" She repeated, incredulously. "And just would've happened if we had been caught? I'll tell you what, I would lose my chance to go to this school Beauxbatons, that's what!" She crossed her arms stubbornly. "I don't even know you." Sure, being part of a plan to rob a store might consider a bond, but Marcy still wasn't sure she could trust the boy. "Don't you do anything else for fun besides getting kicks from robbing stores?"

Digger shook his head at the girl's reaction. She didn't strike him as a goodie-too-shoes, and yet she seemed to have a need to follow the sheep to school and get a 'good education'. It made him sick to his stomach.

He rolled his eyes, and said, "It's not robbing. It's just shoplifting. Robbery involves face-to-face stealing, with a threat involved..." he tilted his head at her, "You don't want to... rob anyone do you? I've never done that. But if you want to, I'm game." he shrugged. "Although it would be rather hard because we--well I--don't know too much magic yet. So robbing a wizard would be rather stupid, don't you think?" He frowned. "I vote we rob a muggle." he raised his hand to signal his vote.

Then he blinked at her and brought his hand down and held it out to her, "Hi, I'm Digger."

"I don't care what you call it!" She snapped back. This boy irritated her, but she felt that if she were to walk away now, she'd regret it. He'd probably think she was pathetic or something and she didn't want anyone with his personality to think of her like that. "Of course I don't! If these are the games you like to play now, I can't imagine what you will be like when you are a-!" She broke off, once the hand was thrusted in her direction. "Digger, you say?" She repeated. What kind of decent name was that? Though she had to admit it suited him. "You think you are awfully funny, don't you Digger?" She replied. He reminded her an awful lot like Frank, but somehow worse. "Marceline," She replied, begrudgingly, and shook his hand.

"I say we don't rob a muggle cause that's disgusting." She had heard whisperings of some magic folk thinking themselves better than non-magical folk and since her parents might as well have been muggles, she wasn't going to subscribe to such ideals. Plus her only friend wasn't capable of magic and he was alright in her book. "If we're going to rob anyone, it should be someone who won't squeal. They'll need to be intimidated by us. I am not as careless as you are, afterall," She replied, a bit snootily.

He rose a brow and was about to put his hand down when she took it. What kind of decent name was Marceline?, he thought to himself, but for once in his life, he kept his thoughts just there--to himself. He pulled back a polite smile, as he shook her hand, and then let go.

The smile left when she said no to robbing muggles. Daw, muggles were so easy though. He brightened immediately as she didn't altogether throw away the idea of robbing someone. He instantly liked the girl as she suggested they rob someone who wouldn't squeal.

He pretended to consider the idea, "Well... I suppose." he said with a shrug. "Okay. Um so what? Like... that kid over there?" he nodded at a small child younger than them screaming his head off about wanting ice cream. "He looks pretty intimidate-able." he nodded his head. "And rich."

Marcy never liked the rich kids. Though she grew up being told to respect everyone the same way, she just found it hard to be nice to the kids who were spoiled rotten and flaunted their fortunes in her face. It only got worse as she grew older when suddenly to be liked one had to have good hairstyles and the trending clothes and Marceline couldn't afford either. She liked to believe she separated herself from people by choice, but peer pressure was more likely the reason.

Staring at the well dressed young boy, who was brattily complaining about ice cream or something of the likes, Marceline wondered if this was like the saying 'stealing candy from a baby.' However, she wasn't about to say anything and then convince Digger to choose a larger target. She was entirely sure about the little boy either, but seeing how he wouldn't shut up, she gave in.

"Alright. Nice catch. We could easily take him and judging by his plump physique, I doubt he could chase us," Marceline replied, pulling at her sleeves nervously. What on earth did she just agree to?

Digger blinked. He had not really been too serious about robbing.. well anyone. Shoplifting was his game. He wasn't poor, per-se, but he wasn't surrounded by money or things either. He didn't need half the things he stole, but it was more the thrill of it that interested him.

"Brilliant." he said, grinning. Well this was certainly a thrill. Even more than shoplifting. Excited he grinned even wider, "So... plan? Do we intimidate him with our sheer strength and size, or do we want to brandish wands at him? Or should we mugglize this mission." he frowned, "Darn. I left my knife at home..." he shrugged and looked at her with consideration. "I could hold him down, and you can get what he's got in his pockets. Or we can just demand it from him... Are we killing him afterwards? Should we lure him into this alley to do it?" He got more and more enthusiastic as he asked her these things.

"And what exactly do you mean by 'mugglize,' hmmmm? Mind who you are speaking to," She decided then that a. she didn't like the boy speaking like that when she was raised by muggles herself and that b. if the boy didn't care to alter his vocabulary for her own comfort, than he wasn't worth her time. At this point, there was nothing keeping her there with him. She was choosing to stick with him. Why? Because she was lonely. But if he proved to be awful, then she'd might as well choose loneliness over discomfort.

Her eyes widened as his plan further unwinded. "Kill him?" She repeated, incredulous. "I doubt you are the killing type and if you were, I'd think you petty to prey on children," Marceline replied, indignantly. Digger seemed like more talk than anything else, so she doubted that he really meant it. "We'll see what interesting things he's got in his pockets. Personally, I don't want or need anything from a brat like him, but since you seem to be needy," She eyed the pocket which he held the bottle he had stolen from the store. "You can have your pick, alright?" She punched him on the shoulder again for good measure. He was such an odd boy.

"Don't get so offensive," he said, putting his hands up in surrender, "I simply meant that we could use muggle weapons instead of wands. It's not like I called you a mudblood or anything." He grinned.

"Hey don't tell me I'm not the killing type... I've killed loads of times before," he said casually. "I'm wanted for murder in about a dozen countries." he paused and smiled at her, "Man, that was a fun vacation." He checked her eyes, hoping she believed him, because nothing made a guy feel better about himself than a girl thinking he was a murderer.

"Right. Yes we will... I bet his pockets are full of galleons." he raised an eyebrow as she said he could have his pick, "You'll change your mind once we're done." Then he rubbed his shoulder with a frown, "Stop hitting me. We're partners now... Partners in crime." he grinned widely at that.

Mudblood? So that was the slang for it. It sounded awful and offensive. She'd never utter the word and if someone else did, she'd give them what they got coming for them. Her eyes lightened and she huffed as she flipped her hair. She supposed Digger was an alright kid.

Marceline couldn't help but chuckle. An eleven year old boy claiming he was a mass murderer! And he expected her to believe him? She shook her hair, amusedly. "Yeah okay, Jack the Ripper, you going to the magic school Beauxbatons as well?" She replied, wondering if she'd ever see the boy again. She would be content either way, but it would be nice to know someone once she arrived at school.

"I'll stop hitting you once you stop being an idiot," She replied, and then laughed. She never agreed to being partners with him, but wasn't about to argue. She needed friends where she was going. Preferably friends who knew a good time when they saw one. "Alrightie, I'll distract the kid and then you can grab him. No killing or seriously maiming him, alright?" She said, and then walked out to the small boy.

"Hello there," She started, giving a pleasant smile. The moment was opportune in her mind, seeing as how his mother had gone away to fetch the ice cream he had been crying for. "Do you wanna see something really great? I, ummmm, know of a really cool candy store! What that's even better than the Sugar Shack, I can guarantee." Luring small kids in with candy, Marcy had to admit she'd never thought she'd be doing that. "Yeah! I'll show you! We'll be back before your mom comes back. It's literally right around the corner." She took the small boy's fat hand and started to lead him in the direction where Digger was hiding. She had to admit she was having more fun than she had initially thought she would.

Jack the Ripper. Yes, he liked the sound of that. Digger the Ripper... Oh even better. He smirked at the idea of introducing himself as that from now on... "Yes I am going to Beauxbaton," he said, cringing a little at the idea of going to school. He had never gone to school in his life. He had been home-schooled sort of. But certainly he had never had anything with schedules or homework. He was kind of nervous about going, but he wasn't about to let that show.

He shook his head as she went off to distract the kid, not quite agreeing on the no kill and no maim policy. He watched her talk to the little fatty with interest. He seemed to be falling for whatever she was telling him. This girl was good. And now he was taking her hand. Yep, he was definitely going to associate with this girl from now on. She had skill in manipulating people.

They were coming closer, and Digger shook his head, and looked around anxiously. What was he supposed to do again? "Er.." he drew out his wand and almost tripped as he stepped out from the alley and in front of Marciline and the kid. "Hi." he said nervously, and then scolded himself. "I mean, Hey." he said, trying to sound dangerous. "Empty your pockets, twit." he glared at the child. He looked about his sister's age. "Or I'll eat your face." he growled.

She couldn't believe how easily the boy fell into her trap. She wasn't entirely new at pranks, having pranked some girls at her boarding school after they had picked on her. She had scared them good and then they had never messed with her again. However, she hadn't mugged them. She wondered just how willingly the boy would give up his valuables, but found that she was soon going to figure out the answer as Digger stepped out from hiding.

She stood behind the boy, in case he decided to run, cornering him and giving him her best scowl as Digger demanded that the boy empty his pockets. The little brat looked like he was about to cry, but then shoved his fat hands into his pockets and started dropping objects from them, his face turning red and tears pouring down his cheeks as he did so. Coins, wrapped candies, a pocket watch, wrappers. He looked back up at them and claimed that was all, his face twisted with tears.

"Are you sure?" Marceline started, she poked her wand into the back of the boy. Even though she had no idea how to use it, the boy wouldn't have known better and it made her look all the more intimidating. "Cause if you are hiding something from us, I'll let Dig here take a bit out of ya," She snarled, grabbing the boy by the hair and crouching down to his height. "He's a real wild child, y'know."

Digger watched menacingly as the kid started dropping all the little things from his pocket. The pocket watch looked appealing. They definitely had chosen the right target. He scooped the things off the ground and shoved them into his own pockets.

As Marceline crouched down to growl in the boy's ear, he was rather taken aback by her words. He's a real wild child, y'know. "I'm not a--what? I'm completely civilized, thank-you very much. Look, I even carry a fork around." he took a fork out from his pocket, then frowned at the kid. He bent down and checked the pockets. "He's clear. Okay little snot you made it out of this alive. Congratulations. That's more than can be said for the last five little brats before you. But that can change very easily," he said, putting the fork to the kid's cheek. "so keep your trap shut, so that we don't have to take all your intestines out, light them on fire, and put them back in, while simultaneously bursting your lungs with wasps." he stood up and shrugged at Marciline.
