Ghosts were always an interesting, learning and reading about the creatures was somewhat of a hobby for Ruby. She had checked out book after book on ghosts and now claimed herself to know everything about ghosts. Ever since she saw Raven last year, she had wanted to see more ghosts. One ghost that didn't show his face much was Jude Beaumont. She wanted to know more about him; how he died, why he was so shy, and so much more. Of course she couldn't go alone, this was going to be an adventure. Adventures were no fun alone. Since she had invited Rosalie to her last adventure, it was time to pick a different friend. But who to choose? Someone who wouldn't get scared, someone who would also be interested in ghosts. Hmm, would like going to a creepy cemetery?

She smiled when she saw a familiar black haired girl. Ruby hurried towards her and grabbed her arm. "We're going to look for ghosts! Come on!" She headed towards the cemetery. "There's a ghost that hardly ever shows his face," she explained once they were there. "I want to see him. He's supposed to be really shy."

She dropped to her knees in front of a grave. "The dates," she whispered, talking more to herself than the other girl. She looked back over at Marcy. "Come here, look how old this person is! I wonder what they look like now."

Marceline wasn't good with 'just hanging out' with people. It never felt right and she just preferred the company of her bat over others. However, she couldn't take Sigmund everywhere she went and certainly not to the Villa du Cheval. She hardly even wanted to go, but her roommate said she was staying in to finish some papers and Marcy would rather not be with her so she went anyway.

The village had a cemetery and Marceline was going to visit there anyway, but Ruby had insisted she go with her specifically. She learned there was no use in resisting Ruby, so she went along with it. The now blue haired girl claimed there was ghosts there and that added to the cause for Marcy.

"I met a ghost last week," Marcy started. "She was awfully dreadful. Just moaned a lot and was dripping with water. I think she drowned." Marceline stated. "If we're quiet, maybe we'll meet the ghost here as well."

Marceline admired a thicket of dead roses and then pulled out her wand and aimed it at them. "Aguamenta," She uttered and sprayed the roses with water. Then she turned when she heard Ruby talking to her. "Probably mostly bones by now," Marceline noted and smiled at her grim joke. She knelt down next to the girl. "What do you think their story is?" She questioned, knowing Ruby would be more than happy to answer. "Jean Fontaine? Perhaps a prisoner escapee who came to this village to hide? He returned from the war to his lover who had gone off with another man?" She offered.

"You did?" She hadn't seen that ghost before. "Have you met Raven? She's very nice." She wanted to meet at least five ghosts this year, "I've read all the books in the library," she admitted. She couldn't pick something that she wanted to learn about, other subjects seemed dull in comparison.

"Maybe all bone," she said softly as traced her fingers along the name. The stone was old and looked as if it would crumple at any moment. "Looks like he died young, war sounds  reasonable. He was in his  thirties," she calculated. "Maybe he killed himself after his lover left him." She played along with the other girl's story.

"Maybe he was someone with power, someone important. He must have did something to piss someone off or maybe someone wanted his power. A wife maybe? If this is true, she could have done it with poison, maybe stabbed him." She sighed then turned to the younger girl. "Maybe he had a lover," she started. Maybe. "She could have died, sent him into depression. The possibilities are endless."

"Come on, there's more graves to check out." She climbed to her feet and walked to the next one. "Okay, since we're in a cemetery, tell me your favorite scary story."

"I doubt anyone with power would be buried in a small town like this one. Plus, look at the size of the grave. You can always tell how fulfilling a life from the size of stone," Marceline reasoned, then smiled. "But I like the idea of a vengeful wife poisoning her husband's morning coffee for a larger cut of the money." She grinned at the thought and pulled some grass from the ground and played with it. She tied knots in the longer pieces, but dropped them as soon as Ruby stood up again.

She followed the older girl as she walked, trying to keep up with her. "Did you know in the tundra part of Canada used to be crawling with these cursed humans? They are damned to be forever hungry, but no matter how much they eat, they're still starving. But the thing is, they don't crave food like we eat. They eat human flesh." She spoke like a girl speaking gossip to her friends. "They're master hunters. Their footsteps cannot be heard and they're said to be so gaunt, they blend in with the trees. Back then, when it someone was thought to have been cursed by the Wendigo, they were expelled from the clan. Some say the wendigo's have died off, but I think they're still around...waiting," Marceline giggled then and then jumped up to walk along the stone wall. "Your turn."

"True," she agreed. "You never know though." She nodded as she listened to the younger girl. "Then the wife leaves town, never to return. No one can know what she did, no one knows who had done the dirty deed." She patted the dirt as if she was comforting the dead body. "She changed her name, met someone new, got married. But, things were bad for her. She thought she had gotten rid of her late husband." She paused for dramatic affect. "But she didn't. His spirit stayed with her, haunted her. Until one day, one rainy day, she was found dead." Her story was a bit over dramatic but she didn't care. "It would explain why her grave isn't beside his," she reasoned.

"So, like zombies?" she said once the girl was finished with the creepy story. "Sounds like a zombie story, but cooler. Zombies are overrated, they get too much attention." She couldn't imagine ever going to Canada, it sounded too scary. "My turn?" she repeated. "Let me think."

She bit her lip in thought, what would be a good story to tell after hearing a story like that. "My papa told me this one story a couple of times before I went to bed." Her mother always got mad when Ruby woke up with nightmares. "It probably wasn't one of his best ideas since I always ended up in the my parents' bed." She paused while she tried to remember all the details. "So, legend has it that there was a girl, she was a bit older than us, and she was on her way home from a gathering. She never made it home, her body was never found. Now every year, on the day she disappeared, she walks down the street looking for someone to pick her up. When someone picks her up, she tells them that she got lost and that she wanted to go home. When they get to her house, she's gone. Disappeared."

"Curiosity usually gets the best of people," she paused and looked over at her friend. "So, the person goes up to the house and knocks on the door. The girl he picked up has been dead for years. You might be thinking that this isn't that scary, you may be right. But," she paused again just to be dramatic. "My papa was one of the people to pick the poor girl up from the side of the road and my papa never lies."

Marceline shook her head. "Zombies only eat brains. Wendigo's eat the whole person and leave the bones to be bleached in the arid weather," She explained. She had read plenty of articles and comic books about wendigos and zombies and therefore knew the difference.

Marceline held her breath during Ruby's story. She heard stories similar to it from other people before, but half of the fun was at least letting the story freak you out a bit. She giggled once Ruby got to the end as she had a realization. "Those stories used to really freak me out," She started and kicked a lose stone. "But since I've started going to Beauxbatons, it seems like there's dead people everywhere. Most of them are pretty cool, too," She added with a grin.

"Did you know that magic school in Scotland supposedly has a giant squid in the lake nearby? And Merpeople! I hope Beauxbatons does too. However, the only unique thing I've ever heard about Beauxbatons is that there is trolls in the dungeon, but that's supposedly a rumor some upperclassman came up with," She remarked, a bit crestfallen. She spent years reading about this stuff in comics and books and then suddenly she discovered that she possessed magic and that some of that stuff she read about was real. Now that she knew that it was real, she wanted to experience as much of it as possible.

"Actually, zombies have evolved. They don't just eat the brains anymore, they eat all the guts and all the bloody stuff." She had seen a few movies with her papa, her favorite had to be Dracula. He seduced people and drained them of their blood, how cool was that? "I've seen some horror movies in my time."

"My mama used to get so angry with Papa for telling me scary stories. But now they don't scare me as much." She hopped from one foot to the other as if she were playing hop scotch. "If you like scary stories, you should stay at my home during the summer. Papa tells some good ones."

"Giant squid?" She stopped and looked at the girl. "How cool would it be to see that in real life? I mean, I bet it's huge! Taller than the castle!" She returned to her jumping. "I heard that some upperclassmen went into the dungeons to check it out. I don't think they found anything though."

She stopped in front of another crumbling grave. "Poor thing," she said softly. She traced the date with her finger before looking at Marcy. "She was no older than us. How sad is that?" She wondered how the girl died, maybe she was sick or something.
