Cerisier vs Montagnard Quidditch: Round 1

Post by Professor Bowen on Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:22 pm

It was the first game of the season and the professor was excited to see how to new members and captains would do. Since many members of the teams graduated last year, there were new players to take their spots. She just knew it would be a great first game, there were so many things to look forward to. She was excited to see how the new captains did under the pressure of the first game. Would they crack or would they pull their team to victory?

She smiled up at the clear blue sky, the sun was shinning bright today. The perfect way to start a season, not a cloud in the sky. No clouds meant no rain and no rain meant a perfect day. As the teams walked onto the field, she turned her head to smile at both of them. "Shake hands, congrats on making captain," she said to the new captains. "Good luck to both teams," she called out. "May all of you do your best, don't let the perfect weather get in your way."

And with that, she released the balls and blew her whistle to signal the beginning of the game.

Game Ends: June 15

It was time to prove that she did deserve the title of being captain. She made sure that the team got in enough practices and that Fiona got extra training over the summer since she sucked at staying on a broom. Their parents thought they were getting along but in reality Mabel was yelling at her older sister to do better. If Fiona didn't score this game, she would be put through extra training. There was no way Mabel was going down because her sister couldn't do her job right.

She also made sure the new quidditch member got in enough practice too. He wasn't as skilled as the other players but he was only beginning. That still didn't mean Mabel had to be nice to him, instead she yelled at him just as much as she did the other. Maybe even more. No way was she going to go easy on someone just because they were new. "Remember, we practiced hard for this," she told her team. "If we don't win, we just have to improve ourselves. There's always room for improvement, let's just do it to the best of our abilities," she said to her team before they exited the changing room. She didn't want to push anyone too hard, that meant they would fail and there was no need for failure.

A smirk was planted on her face as she shook the hand of the opposite captain. "Good luck," she said in a smug tone. "May the better captain, which is me, win." After the whistle was blown, she took off of the ground and looked over her team. "Fiona, remember to stay on your broom. Philip, don't fuck up. Stark, do your best." She believed that Stark would do his job properly and that he could do it better than the others.

Stephanie was nervous about her first game as captain. Cerisier had done so badly over the past couple of years. And as seeker she'd often felt she was to blame. Now in the position of captain she felt doubly responsible for the potential results of each match. One thing she could be certain of, it was the improvement in her sister's playing, which Stephanie had personal her having made sure Christine got extra training over the summer so hopefully she will have improved. Team practices had gone well enough but the real test would be the actual match.

She looked over her team before the game and said, "you've all worked hard in practice. Now is the time when it really counts. Do your hardest and don't be intimidated by anything which might be said by the other team or the announcers." Her eyes lingered on the newest teammember, Milan rein the longest. She was the one for whom all this would be new. Pep talk over and she was ready to lead her team out.

The words coming from Mabel's mouth Stephanie ignored as she shook hands with the Montagnard Captain. She'd learnt long ago to not let anything the other witch said get to her. It was just the way she was. "Christine keep a hold of your bat," was the last instruction Stephanie called out as she pushed off the ground and flew up into a position giving her a good clear view of the pitch.

Fiona had no clue why she wanted her sister to have this gig. The yelling. The shouting. The everything. Mabel never let up. Well Fiona would show her that she could do exactly as she wanted her to do because little did Mabel know, Fiona had given herself extra flying lessons. Forget the fact she had to study for her final exams. They were still ages away. Fiona wanted to survive to live that long.

"Oi Mabel," Fiona called out gleefully, "knock them all off their brooms and I'll stay on mine." Fair was fair. She did wonder though as she kicked off the ground if she should have experimented with that sticking charm she learnt recently. It would make it easier to stay on her broom. The only problem was it'd be awfully difficult to get down to the pitch whilst stuck to it. Well she could have flown and hit Mabel on the way.

She was up in the air and her eyes open wide. Right, she thought to herself, get the quaffle and shock Mabel. That was the plan The problem was getting a hold of the quaffle. A ding sounded and it wasn't Fiona who was responsible. "Mabel. What if one of the other chasers score instead?"

"Never be distraught," Christine replied in return to Stephanie's warning, "I have this in hand." And of course she did. She was stronger now without that ugly muscle definition. Finding that French translation of a book called The Beater's Bible really had been stroke of luck. Now Christine believed she was more than ready to take on Montagnard.

She smiled in the bright sunlight and pushed off the ground with more grace than she'd had in the previous two years on the team. This was the year when she would surprise everyone. "A bludger," she cried, "oh a bludger you are hit." Christine swung her bat at it and squealed in delight when she managed to hit the bludger toward one of the Montagnards. "See Stephie. I am much improved."

Philip was kind of scared of his captain. The older, but smaller girl was a pretty good leader, but she yelled. A lot. She definitely yelled at him more than the others in practices. Which, he wasn’t mad about. He kind of understood, he was a new player and Montagnard had a winning streak to keep up. Mabel had added extra practices for him, which were exhausting but hopefully helped.

He had been freaking out the night before (and right up until the match started). He was afraid he was going to fall off his broom or accidentally score on his own goal. Philip never really got freaked out over stuff like this..but Merlin was that captain scary. She’d probably gut him and feed him to some creature if he messed up.

“I’m not going fuck up.” Philip muttered under his breath and kicked off the ground. He was flying in his first legit quidditch match. Wow the people look small in the stands. Philip was still able to spot Charlie and seeing her calmed his nerves a little. He had gotten hold of the quaffle and passed it to the teammate who scored. So that was good yeah? Of course he hadn’t been paying attention and Charlotte’s roommate almost took him out with a bludger. The keyword was almost though. Mabel was definitely going to yell at him for that.

Milan was nervous as the newest member of the team. She had felt Stephanie's eyes linger on her before they were off into the air. Her only encouraging thought was that there was a Montagnard Chaser who was new too. Still she was the youngest player and while she didn't have standards to live up to, she didn't want to disappoint.

She watched the Quaffle exchange hands rapidly, from Cerisier to Montagnard to Cerisier..... Milan swooped behind a Montagnard Chaser and pulled her broom forward, catching the ball as it started its descent. Heart pounding from adrenaline as the crowd erupted below, she weaved in and out of the players to get closer to the goal. "Coming through!" she yelled, nearly hitting someone. They were pressing in on her and she was still a good distance from the goal. It was no guaranteed shot, especially with the Keeper fluttering defensively like that. She threw the Quaffle forcefully and watched its high arch.

Was Trent cocky? Hell freaking yeah he was. Did he care? Not really. He wasn't so cocky to ignore his faults such as his occasional issue of flying with a southeasterly wind, but he knew he was pretty good at this sport. As the game sat at ten to ten Trent watched the movement of the quaffle of Milan's hand. It was arching high he noticed and sped off towards the ball with a broad grin.

Trent bared down on it feeling the air push against his skin and goggles in absolute revolt. He looked up and could tell if he didn't hit the ball the kid's shot was going to look pretty poor, and he remembered his first year. It sucked when you messed up. He did a hard stop and flung his left heel to push the ball through the goal post. Trent grinned widely and flew over to Milan in order to give her a proper high five and to make it seem like that was totally something she'd planned. Trent had no clue if it came across in a way that the way the goal worked out was as a planned move set, but he sure hoped so.

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to another thrilling Beauxbatons match." Rene smiled into the microphone. Thank the lord for seeing Fiona in a quidditch uniform again. "It is perfect weather for some always entertaining quidditch." Rene chuckled. "Honestly though, I think this might be one of the best Cerisier teams in recent memory verse the ever dominant Montagnard team. I think this younger core of Cerisier has much more chemistry as the team sits currently, not to say Montagnard lacks chemistry, but it appears that Cerisier is hungry for wins and they're very content with each other." Rene watched as Montagnard took an early lead, good. That was really good to see. However soon, Cerisier had scored twice. "Montagnard needs to put on the pressure now and score a few quick goals."

One thing that Mabel displised was when someone didn't pay attention which made them not perform their job properly. "Get your head in the game Brackwell! I will train you until you're begging for sleep unless you get to doing your job!" She didn't care if he was new, he should know what his job was since he got the spot on the team. She turned her attention to her sister then and rolled her eyes. "Just score!" She demanded.

She had no time to deal with her sister, she had much more important things to focus on. She flew close to another player and hit a bludger away before it could hit a fellow Montagnard. Instead of the ba hitting one of her players, she sent it flying towards a blue and green clashed player.

"Yes Christine. I saw. Don't stop." In reality Stephanie hadn't seen a thing. She was too busy looking for the snitch to pay much attention to her younger sister. It was, however, heartening to know that Christine could actually hit a bludger with some accuracy.

It was good to see the scores going up mostly on her side. "Keep it up chasers," she called out. If they could hold on to that margin and she caught the snitch there would be much to rejoice over. Stephanie didn't expect them to outscore Montagnard by more than 150 points. It was her job to make sure that happened. End it all the bad luck they'd had the past two years with the catching of the snitch.

Then she saw it and Stephanie was after it but so was the other seeker. Stephanie stretched out for the snitch but only caught thin air as the snitch was snatched by a hand not her own. She flew down dejected. Again. She'd missed again and this time as captain. "That was good work everyone," she said once they were back on the ground. "Next time I'll make sure I get to the snitch first." Once she was alone then the recriminations could begin.

Stark knew that there were going to be plenty of new faces on the pitch this year, but he didn't know how that would effect the matches this year. He waited on the ground while he waited for the professor to start the game and smiled at his best friend when she got to shake hands this year as the captain. He was determined to make his friend happy this year by doing just as well as he did last year, and even better to insure more wins for his new captain. When the whistle was blown Stark kicked off the ground as hard as he could, this sounded like a great idea until he overshot the quaffle and ended up flying way higher than he intended.

Nonetheless he quickly corrected himself and worked to help his fellow chasers get the quaffle and score. The points started racking up quickly and then suddenly stopped. Each team had only made one or two goals before the came to a stop and the teams battled hard to get the quaffle and then the points started adding up again very slowly. Finally the snitch was caught by Montagnard's seeker and the quaffle didn't matter anymore. Stark was disappointed that he hadn't helped his team score more points than they had, but at least they had won so that meant if he could get his act together for the next one he could still save this.
